I have a pre-existing condition thus should avoid going out in public? And who is going to pay me to sit home? A lot of advice given just doesn't seem realistic.
I guess we have to use logic and common sense.

Do we know why there are an unusually large number of COVID positives in Italy?

I will guess, population density, using the same cup for comnunion, imagine how many people a priest with COVID19 could infect by giving each one a wafer on their tongue? And the Italian greeting, hug, hug, kiss, kiss...

What type of structure was the "quarantine hotel"? Cardboard boxes? House of cards?

Probably a hotel, not unlike the one in Seattle, so decrepit that not even the homeless wanted it.

don't hold your breath, this is Florida.
can't run off the tourists.

edit- what the first 7 cases tell us is that there are active cases ALL OVER the state. SW- Ft. Myers area, NW=Pensacola area, SE- Ft. Lauderdale area, Sarasota area, and Tampa area.
The local news reported this possible case, it is very close to where I live. I really think so many people have been exposed to this everywhere. It seems they have been unable to test so many people, due to limited tests.
Sick Pasco Co. woman claims ER doctor told her she had coronavirus, says Health Dept. said otherwise

Quotes from article:

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County woman is sick, confused and scared for her life after Florida doctors informed her she “likely” has the coronavirus, but wouldn’t be tested. She’s worried and wants 8 On Your Sides to help get her answers.

Houston said she was given a shocking diagnosis. She says a doctor at the clinic gave her this paper, which reads “You very likely have coronavirus or COVID-19”.

She claims she was told by the doctor she likely had the coronavirus, but that she didn’t meet regulations to get tested by the Centers for Disease Control. Instead, she claims she was given antibiotics and told to quarantine herself.

advises all individuals who traveled on a river cruise on the Nile River in Egypt from Feb. 4-18 to self-isolate for 14 days following their return. Several passengers have recently tested positive for COVID-19, including two presumptive positive cases in Florida.

ITALY LOCKDOWN WILL COVER 16 MILLION PEOPLE

Italy is set to lockdown areas containing at least 16 million people as authorities try to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The quarantine will apply to the region of Lombardy – which contains tourism and financial hub Milan – and 11 smaller provinces.

All affected areas are across the north and east of the country, which have been the worst hit by the outbreak.

The plans will also see schools, museums, and swimming pools shut across the country.

Italy currently has 5,883 confirmed cases of the virus, more than any country in Europe and behind only China and South Korea globally.

The quarantine is set to last until early April.

5 more coronavirus cases in Scotland as number of UK infections soars

I can assure you, the tourists are not gone. This virus is like the flu and people will go to the theme parks sick. They spent all that money to get here, and get in, and they’re going to stay. It was, and is, not unusual to see people puking, coughing, sneezing, etc and remaining at events. You see this during hurricanes too. The tourists don’t leave until they’re forced to. There’s no way vendors are go to be able to control it, short of being forced to close. Traffic is still horrendous. It takes 30 min to go 10 miles.

I’ve been self quarantining for 3 years since my cancer diagnosis. I venture out only as necessary. I’ve long since made hand washing a priority. Hand sanitizer everywhere, tissues, increased use of paper towels, the house aired out at least monthly, vacuum, mop, dust regularly, etc. even the inside of the vehicle. I have a pair of driving gloves with a special finger tip that will allow me to use my cell phone screen. (Found them at Target 3 years ago.) I have gloves and masks the hospital gave me. I continue to use them as needed. A lot of this is common sense.

I was supposed to attend a 2 day cancer conference in Boca Raton next week but it has been cancelled. It’s now going to be online and the registration fee will not be adjusted. The hotel rooms are being refunded. The economy is for sure going to take a hit in the business arena. Highly doubtful the tourists will stay away. Just my thoughts tho.
I agree about the tourists. Our beaches are busy, and hotels full. My neighbor just had family arrive, and they are headed to Busch Gardens. I mentioned the virus, and they all looked at me like I was crazy.

The Seattle Mariners continued spring training in Arizona with rising concerns about whether they should play their opening homestand beginning March 26.

Seattle set for 1st major sports event since virus outbreak
And the "Grapefruit League" (Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, Pirates, etc) continue their spring training games at various locations in Florida. I just this minute asked DH what he thought the players might be feeling as folks are diagnosed all around the areas where they play and stay.

Suggestions are it started with a 38 yr old male who had dinner with a carrier friend who had been in Wuhan. He spread it to 6 in family, and it continued from there.

Media reported it was a condemned hotel being used as a makeshift quarantine hospital. Desperate choice led to desperate result.

Seriously! What happened here?

Edit to add: just read above that it was condemned.

Wow.
