Do we know why there are an unusually large number of COVID positives in Italy?
It was reported that the northern sections are high elderly/retiree population. Greatest vulnerability.

Cruise ships taken off course as anti-virus controls widen

The port of Penang in Malaysia turned away the cruise ship Costa Fortuna because 64 of the 2,000 aboard are from Italy. The ship had already been rejected by Thailand, and is now heading to Singapore.

In Malta, which reported its first case of the virus Saturday, the MSC Opera ship agreed not to enter the Mediterranean country’s port amid local worries — even though there are no infections suspected on board. The ship continued to Messina, Sicily, where passengers were allowed to disembark after officials reviewed medical records.

The local news reported this possible case, it is very close to where I live. I really think so many people have been exposed to this everywhere. It seems they have been unable to test so many people, due to limited tests.
Sick Pasco Co. woman claims ER doctor told her she had coronavirus, says Health Dept. said otherwise

Quotes from article:

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County woman is sick, confused and scared for her life after Florida doctors informed her she “likely” has the coronavirus, but wouldn’t be tested. She’s worried and wants 8 On Your Sides to help get her answers.

Houston said she was given a shocking diagnosis. She says a doctor at the clinic gave her this paper, which reads “You very likely have coronavirus or COVID-19”.

She claims she was told by the doctor she likely had the coronavirus, but that she didn’t meet regulations to get tested by the Centers for Disease Control. Instead, she claims she was given antibiotics and told to quarantine herself.

This. ^^^. I believe that there are many more cases of CV19 in the United States right now, that have not been diagnosed or identified, because of the lack of a coordinated response to this situation.

I watched C-Span today, it was a complete breakdown, cluster of political backbiting and grandstanding. Nothing seemed cohesive or useful.

And the new Billion dollar bill passed for CV19? Filled with pork barrel spending. I wonder how much of that money is even for the CDC.

Nope. I even asked "Alexia" and she didn't know either.

That terrifies me. I am so scared of that happening to me.
That's the same protocol UNMC used with the Ebola virus and they haven't lost anyone yet but this one is different. The ill woman is an excellent example of someone feeling ill even before she returned to the U.S. from the UK. Five days later--a week ago today-- she chose to attend a Special Olympics Event at a YMCA in Fremont, NE. Now, an entire community is having to shut down its schools and many are asked to self-quarantine. Let's hope they do so.

If you have the Libby app for library books, they have collected over 100 books on pandemics, and apocalyptic fiction survivor stories.

For what it's worth, our restaurant has been busy all week. Slammed last n8ght, but we had live entertainment.

I agree about the tourists. Our beaches are busy, and hotels full. My neighbor just had family arrive, and they are headed to Busch Gardens. I mentioned the virus, and they all looked at me like I was crazy.

Another big cancellation in Orlando:

"The AFL-CIO today canceled a Florida forum featuring Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden.

The event was scheduled for March 12 in Orlando, five days before the state‘s presidential primary in which 219 Democratic delegates will be up for grabs."

Oregon has interesting standards for testing IMO:

Oregon health officials are testing only people sick enough to be hospitalized who don’t have the flu, people with symptoms who also have traveled to the countries most affected by the coronavirus outbreak and people who have had contact with a person with the disease. Dozens of Oregonians have tested negative.

My question: what if you have symptoms, aren’t sick enough to be hospitalized, haven’t traveled and don’t know if you’ve had contact with a person with the disease? At some point that will happen, but you’ll continue spreading the disease even if you’re voluntarily self-quarantining as a precaution, if you have to go to the store or somewhere necessary. If your symptoms worsen what do you do if you don’t know if you have COVID-19? How do you get help without potentially infecting health care workers?

I had a very intense discussion with my SIL this morning about her upcoming cruise. I told her I needed her to not see my parents for at least 14 days after she returns. That means my brother, who is not going on the cruise but who will be exposed to her afterwards, also cannot see them for that period. I also said I’m not wild about my brother potentially being exposed, either, but there’s nothing I can do about that.

She still believes it’s like the flu and the risk is low. But if my parents get it, they are done for, given their ages and pre-existing conditions. She agreed to stay away from them. But it was not a happy discussion. I feel bad about that, but part of my job is to protect my parents.
I understand completely, I am on high alert for my mom too!

So glad the Daily Mail isn’t experiencing economic hardship due to COVID-19. Good grief they release a new melodramatic headline every 15-20 minutes. Not clicking on their crap. Not, not, not.

I understand completely, I am on high alert for my mom too!

My husband, who has COPD and CHF, just informed me that he wants to go to church tomorrow.

Can't he pray at home? We already had an argument about it. Stomping off to cook dinner.
