Iran releases 70,000 prisoners as toll rises: Live updates
''Iran temporarily released about 70,000 prisoners because of the coronavirus contagion, as the death toll rose by 43 new fatalities to 237.

In Italy, where some 16 million people in Lombardy and other parts of the north are now under quarantine, there were 133 deaths reported, bringing the total to 366. More than 7,000 people in the country have been confirmed to have the virus.

But the latest figures from China and South Korea suggest the virus might be slowing in Northeast Asia.

More than 3,800 people have died worldwide from coronavirus and there are about 109,000 infections.''

''15:40 GMT - Bootleg booze kills 27 in Iran after virus 'cure' rumours
Twenty-seven people have died from methanol poisoning in Iran after rumours that drinking alcohol can help cure the novel coronavirus infection, state news agency IRNA reported.

A spokesman for Jundishapur medical university in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan, said 218 people had been hospitalised there after being poisoned. The poisonings were caused by "rumours that drinking alcohol can be effective in treating coronavirus," Ali Ehsanpour said.

Drinking alcohol is banned in Iran for everyone except some non-Muslim religious minorities.''

I am sure they will be able to re-arrest these 70,000 prisoners again no problem. . How many rapists, murderers and paedophiles have they released? Insanity!

My thought is a delay in scheduling rallies would be due to a fear that too few would show up leading to an “embarrassing” turn out, rather than a concern about people transmitting the virus.

But given that our politicians are mostly over 50, and thus have to be concerned, regardless of stunts with gas masks mocking the virus, they’re going to start to change their behaviors. And this should impact how governments and the public react to this crises.

In other news I have a hearing this afternoon. The hearing itself should be quick but the courthouse is always packed and we have to sit there for at least an hour before we can be heard. Just because of the volume of cases and pace of proceedings. Especially with this judge who talks A LOT.

So I’m scared. I’m very worried about having to be in that crowd not knowing how many people could be infected because we don’t have testing occurring as it should.

P.S. We now have three confirmed cases in my county.
It must be so difficult for you - to carry on with your job as usual and at the same time be worried about your health and well being.

I don't have expert advice to give you...only what I do. I carry Lysol wipes in my pockets, even hold then in my hands, which also prevents me from touching my face. Wash your clothes and skin when you get home....and if you can, hold your breath the whole time...(being facetious obviously). Wouldn't it be great if we could though, hold our breath when needed?

Breaking: Detroit officials are announcing right now that they are restoring water to thousands of residents and imposing a moratorium on water shutoffs as the coronavirus spreads in the U.S.

More than 3,000 homes have been without water because of delinquent bills. That posed a significant health risk in the event of an outbreak.

The notion that a City could shut off water on people in the midst of a potential infectious disease epidemic – really EVER – is unconscionable," former Detroit Health Department Executive Director @AbdulElSayed tells me.

did we not say weeks ago to stop this , how stupid are these humans ......the stupidity is scaring me more than anything ! I mean this is just DUMB!!!

Yes. It is very sad that we are seeing mistakes being made that could help prevent some of the new cases from happening.

The one that really got to me is some states are telling people that have been confirmed to have the virus to self quarantine at home.

Their symptoms may not be bad enough to go to a hospital but someone who has the virus and is told to self quarantine at home will likely spread it to anyone else in the household, and they go on to infect others because they are not the ones told to quarantine. That defeats the purpose entirely.

IMO they should quarantine in a place that is setup for them so they can really be isolated from spreading it to others.

It's like zinc. Vitamin D is well known for us older folks that we need supplements. I used to do it, and then I got complacent, and now I have purchased recently to now again take. It's not a cure, it's just that it's important to get up to normal needed levels to take, and that is proven science. Vitamin D is Same with zinc. Having excess doesn't help (not yet proven) but having low levels is bad. (Yet I've got those zinc drops for my trip and in my house as anectodally, many agree it is good when you think you are at the onset of a cold etc)

Additionally, smokers are well known to have low vitamin D levels.

All MOO.

Yes. I get frequent sun. I’ve learned a lot about vitamin d deficiencies. My ex has it and got SUPER depressed and low energy. Couldn't work out well. Couldn’t think properly. At age 39.

We learned that it takes at least 15 minutes in the sun with trunk sweating to get Vitamin D benefits. And then it’s a lot of benefit. (Preferably exposing your trunk to the sun.)

Pets need it too. They get it when the sun heats up their skin and produces oil on their skin which gets in their fur. That oil has Vitamin D from the action of the sun. They then lick their fur and ingest the vitamin D. It helps with happiness. And energy.

Another thing is B-12. I’m deficient despite being a meat eater. The ability to process it can deteriorate as we age. So I take supplements. Not sure if it has to do with resistance to disease but it sure helps with mood. Speaking of which, I haven’t taken it in awhile!

I’m also taking Black Elderberry every day. That’s supposed to help with the severity of flu and cold symptoms:

May Improve Cold and Flu Symptoms
Black elderberry extracts and flower infusions have been shown to reduce the severity and length of influenza (8Trusted Source).

Commercial preparations of elderberry for the treatment of colds come in various forms, including liquids, capsules, lozenges and gummies.

One study of 60 people with influenza found that those who took 15 ml of elderberry syrup four times per dayshowed symptom improvement in two to four days, while the control group took seven to eight days to improve (9Trusted Source).

Another study of 64 people found that taking 175-mg elderberry extract lozenges for two days resulted in significant improvement in flu symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle aches and nasal congestion, after just 24 hours (10).

Furthermore, a study of 312 air travelers taking capsules containing 300 mg of elderberry extract three times per day found that those who got sick experienced a shorter duration of illness and less severe symptoms (11Trusted Source).

Detroit has a poor record with how it treats its poorest most vulnerable residents. Really sad. Also, Dear Detroit, common sense. Clean water and being able to flush a toliet equates to cleanliness and sanitation.
Just think about how the rest of the world suffers due to lack of clean water.
"More than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water. Diarrhea caused by inadequate drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene kills an estimated 842,000 people every year globally, or approximately 2,300 people per day."

And with poverty and lack of sanitation comes more diseases sadly........Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day.[1] 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.[2] 805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat.

Snipped.

Absolutely!

(I have a personal interest in water systems....and my jaw is on the floor at the idea of turning off water during a health crisis that requires clean hands.)

Head of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey tests positive for the coronavirus

Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, could have contracted the illness because he had been working around the airports, Cuomo said.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey oversees much of New York City's travel infrastructure, including some airports, tunnels, bridges and seaports.

New York subway: Commuting in the time of coronavirus in the nation's largest transit system - CNN
''Crowded trains each weekday carry more than 5 million people hardened by terror threats and track-dwelling rats, daylight assaults and diluvial water main breaks. COVID-19 is their latest worry.
"I do think they are potentially at risk because you're in close quarters and sometimes you can't escape if somebody is really near you and the train is packed," said Gershon, a native New Yorker.
On Sunday, Mayor Bill de Blasio urged some New Yorkers to avoid the subway. He called for employers to stagger work hours for employees to ease overcrowding.

"If you're sick, you shouldn't be going on the subway," he told reporters.
"If you are traveling by subway and the train that comes up is all packed and you can possibly wait for the next train in the hopes it might be less packed, please do," the mayor added. "We've all been sardines in the subway. If you have the option of walking or biking to work, please do that."
Transit system undergoes a deep cleaning
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the state agency that runs the subway, buses and commuter rails, last week announced it was using bleach and other disinfectants recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to scour all equipment in the system every 72 hours.
The major cleaning includes 472 subway stations, 21 stations on Staten Island Railway, 124 stations and terminals on the Long Island Rail Road and 101 Metro-North stations.''
NJ Transit info here...many trains terminate in Penn Station, NYC and Hoboken and Jersey City, NJ where PATH stations are located.

Also curious the amount of time these thousands of homes had to deal with the shut offs? Was this ongoing throughout the past winter?
People shouldn't have to suffer like that in America. We should all be doing our best to help those less fortunate as often as we can.

75-80 just seems like such a drop in the bucket...while I applaud this, I still cannot get my mind around how...slow this testing thing is going. As I understand it, no way you can get containment if you can't do contact tracing, no contact tracing without testing...yet here our leaders are, telling us everything is perfect and beautiful...what a line of hot air, you are expending what little trust I had in my govt. and no, I'm not talking about the scientists and doctors
I too am not able to comprehend how slow the US test rollout still is.

CDC originally made faulty test kits- ok, got it. Embarrassing but ok.

But that was WEEKS ago. What, a month now? The hold up is incomprehensible to me.

And the state labs- ok, we had to go through some government red tape to get state labs to test. Got it. But it’s been WEEKS.

I’m embarrassed, and bewildered. I can find no reasonable excuse for the full picture of where the US is at this point.

MOO.

I am posting links to reliable (after having researched them some) sources on my FB page, to me, the best way to handle this is to share knowledge. As we've learned here, the more we know, the better we can protect ourselves, and others.

What I am finding, is that some people (not all of course), some of them good friends, responding with snark, animosity and judgment. "What are you so afraid", "go out and live life", etc.

Huh? How is sharing information an indication of fear? And why do some assume I have no life because I post this info? (Have cell, will travel.)

After thinking on it a bit, I believe a lot of their "fear, and no life" comments are projection, and a means of absolving themselves of responsibility; i.e. the responsibility we owe ourselves, and others, by limiting our actions according to the factual dangers presented.

If I close my eyes and hide, it ceases to exist type mentality.

Lord, help us.
