I’m telling you, people are blind. I mentioned the state of Italy to someone today, and they were like “whhaaaaat?”

—forum wonky
Yes people are blind. On my local Nextdoor, no one whatsoever is mentioning this virus. People complain about a neighbor's lawn being messy, or someone not picking up after their dog poops or some such petty stuff. smh

I read that their population is 23% over the age of 65 years old.

The death toll from coronavirus has drastically risen over the last couple of days in Italy. Reuters reports that there are now 463 people dead and 9172 cases. Based on those numbers alone, that would mean more than 5% of those diagnosed have succumbed to the virus in Italy. It’s quite a jump from Sunday when the death toll stood at 366 and on Saturday when it was 233.

ETA Are these fatalities from older population? Medically compromised population?

Canada has expressed concerns about suppression of information about the virus in countries both near and far. The global war against the virus is only as strong as its weakest link.
Point well taken, Otto. Certainly there are many no- transparent countries. I often wonder about the U.S suppression of facts. I've lived 75 years trusting the U.S. government. A pity at this point in my life, logic and reason tells me we are being deceived by our own administration.

Stay in if you can! I'm very close to SIP status and ready.
We purchased a smaller freezer over the weekend and I went out for "freezer stock" items. While out I ran into the Walgreens drug for some cold eeze. I couldn't believe my ears when a girl in the shampoo isle explained to the stock girl, " I just got back from Italy and I love this dry shampoo!" EEEK! I couldn't believe my ears.

Meanwhile, my 78 yo mother snuck out to the juice store today and found out the owner was in Italy and on his way back to fix their malfunctioning juicer! My poor mother, she about fainted.
She is having a hard time with the stock market and the drama of feeling stuck living with me. She just sold her home in the Tampa area last month and her belongings are in storage here in the Charleston area (we have at least one case in the area). She is living in my spare room out of her suit case and boxes but needed to fly out the end of the month to go to Wisconsin where her tax guy is... and her extended family. I can't tell her what to do or change her "fear" level. I think by her flight on the 25th of March she will be ready to stay here~

Australia - Almost 50 cases of the coronavirus have now been confirmed across New South Wales, making it by far the worst-hit state in Australia.

In Sydney, people have tested positive for the virus everywhere from the Northern Beaches right down to Cronulla, affecting schools, hospitals and an aged care facility.

At least 10 hot spots have been identified across the city, including at the Sydney Airport, Epping, and Macquarie Park, where two of Australia’s three virus-related deaths have occurred.

“This is likely to be the new norm,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said on Monday afternoon about schools being forced to close.

“We have established now a clear orthodoxy. If a child or a staff member or any other person within a school is found to have the COVID-19 virus, then effectively a breather will be taken and a day out will be the immediate requirement.”

Yikes! My husband has hbp, under control with meds. It’s not clear in the article if high risk includes treated and untreated hypertension.
an earlier article posted here mentioned those patients on ace inhibitors had poor outcomes
after getting coronavirus.
There were 2 specific drugs mentioned-
lisinopril
losartan

Again I ask, since it is spreading in Australia, and it is currently summer in Australia, why should we have any expectation that warm weather will have a slowing effect on this virus?

Are t they going to be held in quarantine?

My understanding is that passengers and crew members who tested positive will be detained at previously-arranged locations but other passengers will not be quarantined.

The Louisiana individual is from Jefferson Parish but is in a hospital in Orleans Parish. This person has not traveled outside of the area.
