“I really don’t understand this war on panic......is panic really worse than neglect and carelessness during an epidemic of this sort?”

Brava. IMO

Forget the shortage of TP, the world (at least some people) are in short supply of compassion.

CDC: Americans over 60 should stock up on food and medications and avoid venturing out as the coronavirus spreads
  • ''In a media briefing on Monday about the novel coronavirus, Dr. Nancy Messonnier focused on making recommendations for people at a higher risk of getting ill from the virus.
  • She also said that eventually "many people in the United States" will be exposed to the virus and that "there's a good chance many will become sick."
  • For now, she said, people over 60 should stock up on food, medication, and other necessities so they can avoid needing to venture out too much.
  • Caretakers and family members should help older people prepare, and develop a plan for what they'll do if either they or the people they're caring for get sick.
  • While people over 60 are at a greater risk of becoming ill than younger folks, it's important for people to understand that risk increases with age, making people in their 80s and 90s at the highest risk, especially if they have chronic health conditions too.''
Unfortunately, many people over sixty have chronic health conditions but still work Some of us are also around other sick people and the staff who care for them. I don't suppose I could get a doctors not for this!?? I'd be okay with a vacation. :p

Maybe they cancelled by now....

Just heard Boston's St. Patrick's parade is on for Sunday. A million expected people at a big gathering is not what we need as a pandemic is starting. Philadelphia tried this in 1918 Philadelphia Threw a WWI Parade That Gave Thousands of Onlookers the Flu | History | Smithsonian Magazine

The mayor of NYC said today that as of now, the NYC St. Patrick's Day parade, scheduled for this Sunday, is still on.

Coronavirus incubation period is just FIVE DAYS on average - but scientists warn one in 100 patients will develop symptoms AFTER 14 days of quarantine

Scientists estimated the average incubation period of the killer virus was 5.1 days after studying nearly 200 people with the bug.

Currently UK health bosses advise anyone suspected of having the virus to self-isolate for two weeks.

But the latest study, by the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, found one in 100 patients go more than 14 days before developing symptoms.

I quit trying to talk to people about it.

If you want to get someone's attention today and they happen to have their 401K in the stock market funds, then you can point them to this link below where it shows today's drop alone is about 7-8% drop in value across the board of the US stock indexes. You can politely tell them that , sure you can ignore all the news, but you just lost 7-8% today alone, not counting the cumulative losses from last week.

You can give them some good news too. Sure it will eventually go back up so if you are young enough and have the time to wait, and it goes up quick enough, then you should be ok.

It seems like some of us older folks are getting the raw end of the deal with this Virus in all aspects.

Market Summary – US Stock Market Overview - Marketwatch

I told them, “you watch, this is about to blow the heck up” (censored). They looked at me like , “yeah ok!” :D

Believe me, I take the time to also mention that I’m not plucking this out of thin air and “well, I’ve been watching this since day 1 and these are my predictions based on infinite reports, press conferences, etc, that I have STUDIED, and also I happen TO CARE about those around me who are elderly, have health issues...”

Congressmen self-quarantine, including two who had contact with the President

Rep. Doug Collins, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida are now the third and fourth congressmen to take the step, following the same announcements from Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona on Sunday.

Collins shook hands with Trump when the President visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta last week. Gaetz rode on Air Force Once with the President on Monday.

Matt Gaetz is the one who mockingly wore a gas mask.

"The health & well being of our students and staff is paramount...until we understand the breath of this, caution is better than negligence." - Dr. Mike Looney, Superintendent @FultonCoSchools on closing all schools tomorrow.
Fulton County is 3rd largest district in GA #11Alive
Cheryl Preheim on Twitter

In a press conference Tuesday afternoon district Superintendent Mike Looney said the teacher started getting sick at the school and called 911.

“The teacher felt ill at work. 911 was called. This particular teacher was transported from the school campus.” Looney said.

The sick teacher worked at two schools, Bear Creek Middle School in Fairburn and Woodland Middle School in East Point. Creekside High School was also released early because of it's close proximity to Bear Creek Middle School and because many families have students in both schools, the district said.

All the extracurricular activities at all schools are also cancelled for Tuesday.

As many as 50% of coronavirus patients with high blood pressure die - but regularly taking medication and exercising to strengthen the heart will lower the risk

A new Chinese study has revealed that patients with hypertension are at a higher risk of dying from coronavirus.

Researchers from the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that as many as 50 percent of those with high blood pressure die from the new virus compared to healthy people who are infected.

There are currently about 80 million people in the US - one in every three - suffering from high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association.

Seconding this!!

Last night when I literally felt like I had just taken a few hard punches and was literally physically “woozy” and “dizzy” and was too giddy to even google, I was like “Dixie this, Dixie that, what’s your opinion on R0, bla bla bla.”... LoL

@dixiegirl1035

It’s been an intense journey together.

Thanks to everyone in here!!!

This has been going on for a couple of weeks. We have Carnival Corporation stock, and DH monitors it daily.
I've owned CCL stock for ages. Been cruising for 40 years. I saved my entire working life for retirement. Lived frugally, was a hard-worker so that during my 70's I could take two or three cruises a year. Now I'm just praying to avoid respiratory infections.

No, but the article listed two classes of meds and gave two examples, so it would be best to see if a particular med falls within one of those classes. I can’t find the link to the article but if I do I’ll post it.
The named medications were Losartan (ARBs) and Lisinopril (ACE) so two different classes of medications. Valsartan (Diovan) is an ARBs but was not specifically mentioned. I would recommend anyone useing ACE or ARBs to contact their Dr to see if there is a risk but please do not stop taking them without talking to your Dr. This will most definitely cause you to be putting your health at risk.

Schools in two Australian states are closed today after further cases of coronavirus among students and staff were confirmed.
The closures come as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 nation-wide surged to over 90.
Education Minister Dan Tehan said temporary school closures are likely to "become the norm" as the virus continues to spread.

Mr Tehan said longer closures of school will be implemented if the situation worsens.
