I'm curious if anyone here has a plan in case someone in their household becomes infected but told to stay home. My husband is afraid he could bring it home to me and wants to be isolated from me if he gets sick. I honestly don't think I could manage taking care of him without having some contact.
There is a section for caregivers and what to do, on the coronavirus.gov website. There is a wealth of information on other topics such as your household, schools, businesses, pregnant women and children, when to contact your doctor, etc.. Hope this helps.

I don't believe the theory that in warmer weather this virus will go away, how do you explain the virus hitting Africa or the current summer weather in Australia?

It's the small businesses that can't afford to close down for a couple of weeks just to be cautious. Sure, maybe the NYSE shut down for a couple of days, but the small business I worked for in the Meadowlands was right back at work the day after the storm, assessing our (major) losses and getting back on our feet. We literally could not afford to just completely shut down for weeks or have people work remotely.

The small business I work for now can't just shut down for a couple of weeks out of precaution. We cannot do our work remotely, and my boss certainly won't pay us to sit at home.
I travel weekly for work. Can not perform job remotely. Our team was told that if we no longer felt safe flying domestically - they certainly understood and would accept my resignation/termination of contract. Sigh

Here's what the last 5 days of #COVID19US growth look like mapped to the Italian epidemic starting 2/22. Trajectory looks awful similar. https://t.co/JvMcVZOlpAp

If you are worried you might have the coronavirus, pick up the phone before you seek medical treatment. The reason for this is twofold: In very mild cases, your doctor might be able to give you advice on how to treat your symptoms at home without needing to see you in person, which would reduce the number of other people you expose.

"The vast majority of cases are going to be mild, and people are going to recover just like they do from a cold or flu-like illness," said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and an infectious diseases doctor.

Re BBM and JMO
ok...about this article and others like the bolded part:

I have seen this quite a few times now how even known identified cases are being instructed to self-quarantine at home.

The problem I have with that is we already know this doesnt work to keep close family members and others from being infected as well. Here are three reasons it doesnt work.

1-People dont follow the rules of self quarantine (see link at bottom).

2-People make mistakes in the home that could cause family members to catch it.
"Can you bring me a drink?"

3-Others like the mailman that still hand deliver mail at the door, delivery people, Friends, etc. can be at risk approaching the front door to greet the occupants.

At least for US cities and elsewhere that are just identifying their first few cases, I feel they should be quarantining them in a proper setting that would ensure no contact with others until they start to test negative as we had seen some other places do. At least initially until there is too short of supply of proper quarantine places. I am pretty sure the infected person would most of the time be glad for the extra protection to keep his/her family members safe.

Self quarantining at home is proven to not work a lot of the times. Its proven by all the cases we heard about where family members or close contacts were also infected by a known infected person.

I mean like even in the article I shared yesterday. Sorry cant recall which article. It was the city's first identified cases and they told them to self isolate at home. Why let them go home to possibly infect their family members and then it spreads out to the public from the family members who are not in self quarantine.

Somewhere along the line, the message has become to allow positive infected coronavirus people to go on home so long as they dont need hospitalization. When places run out of beds or places to put folks, I can understand it. But not when a city gets their first cases and there should be better places to ensure that person does not infect others, let alone his own family members.

Its just not making any sense to me because in some cases, the US is taking extreme measures about not letting certain people enter the country or get off a cruise ship, but then when we finally identify real positive cases, its like so long as you are not needing hospital, then "Go ahead and go home and infect your wife, your children, any friends who may come by to visit, and then they can go out into the community for you to infect others."

Its insanity to me. When we run out of good places to be sure to isolate the infected person, then I would understand it, but not in the very first few cases we are seeing.

Im flabbergasted and at this point, Im accepting the US is now guaranteed to spread this community wide because the instructions the people are given to self quarantine with the virus is going to increase the spreading instead of trying to stop it.

When we see those cases of local transmission from an unknown source, this will be why.

JMO of course.

Including a sample link that proves people cannot and/or will not follow the self quarantine instructions. We have seen this sort of thing before. Its not the first time we have seen this. It just doesnt work.

Quick selfies are low risk, according to the congressional doctor

The House physician was asked in the Democratic caucus about whether members should be concerned if they see a colleague who was supposed to be self-quarantining at the congressional gym.

The doctor responded by describing to lawmakers a spectrum of contact and how concerning it should be, according to two members in the room.

Here are some activities that are not high risks, according to the physician:
  • A quick greeting or selfie
  • A short five-minute meeting with someone who isn't showing symptoms yet but tests positive
A lengthy meeting or close contact with someone who contracts the virus would be higher risk — and would likely require quarantining, the members said.

Hand-to-hand contact was to be avoided, the physician said.

. Wait, you’re married & not already doing this? What?
If one of us gets sick we will. It would be very hard though. If there are only 2 of us, we need each other for some care.

And if you were being facetious....LOL

These 5 Broadway shows are selling discounted tickets this month

Five Broadway shows will sell remaining tickets for $50 for all performances beginning Thursday through March 29. The five plays and musicals are:
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • West Side Story
  • The Lehman Trilogy
  • Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
  • The Book of Mormon
Producer Scott Rudin said in a statement that this is a great opportunity for affordable theater and that we all “could all use a few hours away from the evening news."

“As long as New York City is open for business, its beating heart remains the Broadway stage,” Rudin said.

I am honestly shocked at the amount of people on this thread that think it's no problem to shut down entire cities, to willingly just stay home, etc, for weeks. Maybe a lot of people on here are retired or work for large corporations where telecommuting is an option, but unfortunately, self isolating at home as a precaution just isn't practical or feasible for most people.

A friend of ours called from GA last night. Conversation turned to the CV.

He said "Meh, it'll be gone when it gets warmer anyway".

My eyes rolled to the back of my head.

Then he said "Dunno why people are getting so worked up. It's just like getting a cold".

I could barely contain myself.

I tried my best to lay out the facts, but he wasn't having any of it.
Probably one of my neighbors! These people are everywhere!

Do they even have the numbers displayed? They apparently took down the number of tests and the results, for a time being at least. Why? CYA?
@zecats our gov’ mentioned yesterday that nationwide there would be a new reporting method. I think to create less hysteria.

EU countries are holding a conference call at 4pm today to decide on next steps in relation to coronavirus. They are considering a co-ordinated response in relation to managing the risk.

Among the subjects that are expected to be discussed are borders, health screening and the international effort to contain the virus.

One source said the EU had to take the lead given the response of Donald Trump.

Is it correct that there have only been just over 4000 deaths?

But, if we listen to the news, we are encouraged to keep on keeping on, only with clean hands.
I’ve never been paranoid about a virus before, but this feels dif’ to me & I’m trying to exercise caution.

Is it me? I didn't say it wasn't a problem, I said that the New York City area has done it before, but if it is going to be mandatory we will be forced to self-quarantine. The virus has no borders.

If you or someone in your company tests positive, will you all not self-quarantine? That's something the small businesses have to be concerned about and work now on a plan.
