FYI-bottled water does have an expiry date. Speaking to the cases of bottled water. Don't know about jugs for water coolers.

Attached was the capacity of ICU beds in European countries in 2012. The source said that there are actually fewer now.

"AHA data: According to the AHA 2015 annual survey, the United States had 4862 acute care registered hospitals; 2814 of these had at least 10 acute care beds and at least 1 ICU bed. These hospitals had a total of 540,668 staffed beds and 94,837 ICU beds (14.3% ICU beds/total beds) in 5229 ICUs."

So only 94,837 ICU beds in all of the US. We know these are mostly full at all times. To say is strongly, we are screwed.

Sounds like we need to be building some temporary hospital facilities. Then the next problem: having enough health care professionals to staff them.

Thats a great idea.

I especially like the idea that our kids and grandkids may someday find it very useful to have that information, if they end up with a different breakout of something similar many years down the line.
Or suggest to them that they read the archives of this thread. :) So much good info on here already, it's like a group journal.

Australians are being urged not to “jump on a plane and come home” if they become sick overseas, as health authorities try to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Some of the country’s 100 cases have been linked to people flying in from China, Iran, the US, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and London via Dubai, among other destinations.

Western Australia’s deputy chief health officer Robyn Lawrence wants those feeling unwell overseas to stay in place and heed the advice of local authorities.

“If you do get sick, please don’t jump on a plane and come home,” she told Channel 7’s Flashpoint program last night, on a panel including Premier Mark McGowan.

“Seek the medical advice of the country you’re in and travel home safely when it’s safe to do so. Infecting other people is not a good outcome here.”

What are people supposed to do if they get sick in a foreign country? How do they pay for housing, health care, etc? Unless you're a rich retiree, that could be a problem.

Hubs got a message from someone in his family texting they're having fun beginning their big vacation trip starting in Australia. WTF? These are older folks. I guess they couldn't get a refund, so decided to take their chances.

I was at a meeting last night where one board member mentioned he and his family were taking a Disney cruise next month. No problem, they use hand sanitizer before they go into the dining room. Another was booking a ski vacation for 2 weeks from now in a huge ski resort near casinos.

People are dumb and dangerous.

California’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was still on track to begin on April 10. But a petition calling for its cancellation had gathered nearly 15,000 signatures by Monday evening.

The release of the latest movie in the James Bond franchise has been postponed until November. The movie, “No Time to Die,” had previously been scheduled to open in April.

The Ultra Music Festival in Miami was postponed until next year.

There are a great many elderly people in the greater Palm Springs area. This could turn out to be a very bad situation.

I was just thinking we should be doing journals during this crises and pass them on to our kids and grandkids after the all clear sounds. 100 years from now they can learn from our mistakes and accomplishments.

Speaking of journals, I heard it is a good idea to keep track of anyone you’ve had contact with. In the event someone contracts this most evil crap, they are interviewed extensively about recent contacts and outings, most can’t remember. I’m sure after being diagnosed it is difficult to recall every person you might have been in close proximity to as well as every errand.

Sound advice!

I checked in on my MIL 82 and FIL 89. They just got home from their regular check up with their doctor. They were there for 2 hours and the doctor never mentioned COVID-19. Unfortunately they didn't ask about it either.
Wow. I'm surprised he didn't go over some simple things they could do to increase their safety by limiting their exposure........

Cruise ship stranded off south of France as 2 passengers tested for coronavirus

Does any one know how many cruise ships are currently at sea?

Not sure about total number of cruise ships but I have found on this map when I back up backwards with the wheel on my mouse, it is incredible to see all the boats, ships, and vessels at sea on any given moment.

I had no idea shipping was just as clogged on the waters as airplanes are flying their daily sky routes.

ETA - Using the Vessel Filter on the left side, you can click on "Ship Type" to limit the kind of vessel you are seeing. I havent found one labeled Cruise Ships but there is some categories under Passenger Vessels and Pleasure Crafts that may limit it down.

Woman upset over COVID-19 check coughs on plane, gets tackled
''The last thing you’d want to do amid COVID-19 fears is cough on an airplane.

That didn’t stop a Chinese woman aboard a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok to Shanghai last Friday who reportedly coughed on a flight attendant on purpose during a check for the coronavirus.

In a video supposedly filmed by another passenger, the woman — decked out in white hat, top and face mask — reportedly became enraged after the plane she was on was held up for up to 10 hours after landing at Shanghai Pudong Airport for COVID-19 screening.

According to media outlet Newsflare, the irate woman on flight TG664 caused a scene and demanded to be let off the plane.''

''A few passengers stated the woman was told by plane staff she would have to wait. That’s when she vented her frustration by flailing her arms and coughing on a flight attendant.

The footage reportedly shows a flight attendant putting the woman in a headlock while screaming, “Come here! Help me put her down!” as he tried to pin her down.''
