So there are some positively tested people with no symptoms whatsoever.
If they weren't tested, the would never even know they had it.
So you obviously can't test only those with symptoms.
Yet in US even many of those with symptoms can't get tested.
Nope. I was involved in a Facebook discussion surrounding the daycare worker in Acworth Ga. No one had a valid # to call or any idea where to go to be tested.
Everyone kept telling them to call the CDC.
Finally, someone gave a valid # for North Ga, IF they believed that they or their children had symptoms of coronavirus.
Why isn't there an established "hotline" in each state????

Big news. Amherst College is closing down. Remote learning will begin after spring break. Kids must be out by Monday. They’ve been told to pack up as if they’re going home for the summer. #COVID2019

Does anyone here know how soon a test would register positive after exposure? If someone has been exposed, and is with or without symptoms, do they have to wait a certain length of time to be tested so the test would be valid?

Wow what a brilliant question. Dr. Mike? Dr. Maria? Dr. Fauci? Dr. Nancy? Dr. @dixiegirl1035?I’ve missed Dr. Mike all week, grrr so behind

I heard my name. I'm running short on time as today is a car travel day, so here is a graph to help answer.

Near me a local woman is being vilified on SM for having it, despite nearly dying & also presenting at the hospital/doctor 4X, only to be turned away three X. Everyone knows her name, as she’s from a small town & worked in the WMT. People seem to forget, she contracted it from someone that remains unknown.

I’m so pissed, I went to WMT early this a.m. for three things, after making my purchase I stepped into the ladies room to wash my hands. Not one but two women exited stalls & never washed their hands......
Of course one man was zealously picking his nose as he strolled the aisles. Really? What the hell is wrong with people?

Sadly I agree with you.
It very well could happen.
I didn't really trust my gut until Dobbjns AFB got involved.
Then I saw fences going up around the barracks and thought what the???
This is real!
IMO

The entire situation is crazy. Each time the “breaking news” tone on TV, I shudder.
The worst for me is thinking how many are walking around feeling fine & infecting anyone they come in contact with.
Especially a smoker that perhaps coughs all the time?
No one knows with certainty how long it has been in the US, only the date the first patient requiring medical intervention presented.
I have a feeling by the end of this week we will have a staggering number of cases.
Personally, I’m appalled some sporting events will go on as normal, like March Madness.
I’m in KY, Keeneland spring meet (horse races) bring people from around the world, then the KY Derby, not to mention the events leading up to Derby.
We are told “live your life, wash your hands.” Hmmmmm
The patient that worked frontline deli/bakery at WMT washed her hands nonstop....., her clean hands did not prevent her from this wicked virus.

Chuckle at the nose picker, Good morning.

yeah, I about lost my coffee and my composure. WTH is wrong with people?
Well, I’ll be avoiding all stores from here on out, I had to have three items before my Amazon arrives.
Of course WMT here is wiped out, so not worth the risk of going unless you want a new gas grill or St. Patrick green stuff.

Italy 'to suspend mortgage payments'

Reuters is reporting that mortgage payments are to be suspended across Italy, as part of Rome’s measures to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

That would help families cope with the economic cost of the quarantine measures being imposed, which will hurt some sectors such as retail and tourism.

What does “presumptive positive” mean, exactly, in terms of testing?

Presumptive positive cases are persons with at least one respiratory specimen that tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 at a state or local laboratory.

Laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases are persons with at least one respiratory specimen that tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 at a CDC laboratory.

What's a 'presumptive positive' coronavirus test?

Time for a bit of levity....

Question:

Why is everyone afraid there will be a toilet paper shortage???

Answer:

Because every time one person sneezes, a hundred more ch*t themselves!

And now we know !!! :D

What does “presumptive positive” mean, exactly, in terms of testing?
A confirmed positive requires a test from the CDC.....so the state does a first test and the CDC does a second. I believe some states have verified and no longer need a second test.

What does “presumptive positive” mean, exactly, in terms of testing?
A presumptive positive is a screening that requires further investigation.
Sort of like a weak rapid strep throat test, needing the actual petrie dish culture to back up the findings.

(It appears the US isn't doing the blood PCR testing, yet.)

New York City doesn't plan to call off its massive March 17th St. Patrick's Day parade on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said that officials would watch the virus' spread, with "all options on the table... it'll be a day-to-day thing."

Coronavirus Update: NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade still on amid COVID-19 spread

I'm going to bet he cancels the parade. I also think New York City will be the first to shut down. MOO

Maralyssa Bann, MD on Twitter

1/ King County, WA has now reported 83 COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths. @harborviewmc activated our official response one week ago. In that time, we have learned a lot. Here are some aspects pertinent to acute care that I hope can be helpful to others. A thread.

2/
To be clear, this work requires a massive organization of public health and health care system resources. Within the hospital, coordination between ED, Acute Care, and ICU clinical care teams is crucial along with incredible organizational and logistical planning.

3/ Early on, a central command center with organized briefings and communication was established to help guide overall plans.
COVID-19 differs from many established disaster frameworks and our existing protocols needed to be adapted to this setting.

Read the rest of her narrative at the tweet....its overwhelming and it's just got started....

Have you seen the photos of Dubai?
Venice?
They are ghost towns now!
Frightening to think NYC might be like that isn't it?
