Not good, especially for those who do have severe symptoms. The ones with minor symptoms, who are not tested in the US, will spread it around far and wide. 20% serious cases will overwhelm medical system. Death rates will increase.
Those with minor symptoms don’t meet testing criteria, either. Like the experts are saying, stay home if sick, treat mild symptoms with OTC......

That's why everybody, even with minor symptoms, should be tested. Some countries are doing it.

With the benefit of electricity.
Good time for spring cleaning.
We survived a major city shut down after Hurricane Sandy. We can handle it.

Of course, we weren't quarantined at home, so just the quarantining and the thought of not being able to leave your home will be a nightmare. Maybe think of it as a snow blizzard, everything shut down?

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was at the Championship football team’s home game on Friday alongside more than 27,000 fans, has reportedly contracted coronavirus.

The 52-year-old Greek businessman announced the news in an Instagram post, writing to his 49,000 followers: “The recent virus gas ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know. I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors’ instructions. I strongly advise all my all my fellow citizens to do the same. I wish all a quick recovery.”

Near me a local woman is being vilified on SM for having it, despite nearly dying & also presenting at the hospital/doctor 4X, only to be turned away three X. Everyone knows her name, as she’s from a small town & worked in the WMT. People seem to forget, she contracted it from someone that remains unknown.

I’m so pissed, I went to WMT early this a.m. for three things, after making my purchase I stepped into the ladies room to wash my hands. Not one but two women exited stalls & never washed their hands......
Of course one man was zealously picking his nose as he strolled the aisles. Really? What the hell is wrong with people?
Some still seem unaware...and touching your face (picking your nose) is just routine and tough habit to break.

You have to actively work your own offense and defense because of people like this. Restrooms may need to put encouraging posters on the wall to make hand washing fun. Maybe the words to a song to sing....Not totally being facetious.

One week delay 3 fold more cases. Just exactly what is happening this week that is so important that you want to prolong the epidemic and triple the number of deaths to avoid postponing it?

#COVID19 will spread across U.S. in coming weeks. We’ll get past it, but must focus on limiting the epidemic, and preserving life. It requires tough, proactive mitigation steps to achieve social distancing, break chains of transmission. These are prudent steps by private sector.

I'm taking this as a positive? The hospitals are no longer needed? Hope upon hope!

That is the hope! But a lot will depend on how much the virus surges again once some of the quarantine restrictions are lifted. But at least they know they have some control over those flood gates - hopefully they can keep the infections down to a manageable level going forward. We will have to wait to see how it unfolds from here.

Again, US culture is not to stay home with minor symptoms. People are coming to work sick all the time. One thing if they have common cold, the other if they have Covid. Tests should be available and given for even minor symptoms, so those with Covid at least stay home.

Basically, airport screening doesn't work for the most part....

At the same time, CDC officials have announced that the US had screened >53,000 incoming passengers for COVID-19; one case has been found via this screening.

In fact, it is estimated that under the best of circumstances, airport screening may pick up only 1 out of every 4 cases it is supposed to. Eurosurveillance | Effectiveness of airport screening at detecting travellers infected with novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

The broader issue is the U.S. has its own domestic epidemic to worry about now. There has already been significant transmission inside the U.S. (without more testing we don’t know exactly how much).

Trying to avoid a new bottleneck...physical time to do a test.

BARDA says it's supporting Hologic #COVID19 test that could return results in less than 3 hrs; expect development will be completed "in a matter of weeks," then would seek FDA emergency use authorization

Well in my area, everyone won’t go to the doctor/clinic, for a cough. Plus, I could be tested today & be negative, but need retesting Friday. Self quarantine is sketchy during allergy season, imo. I suffer from all seasonal weeds/pollen, as most Kentuckians do, so we can’t run to a doctor with each sneeze, headache, cough.
The risk of contracting it in the waiting room is huge, imo.
Several KY residents have been contacted for waiting room exposure, they happened to be in the waiting room when a now hospitalized patient was in the office.
That's why everybody, even with minor symptoms, should be tested. Some countries are doing it.

Lockdown is inevitable.....IMO

@CIDRAP’s Dr Mike Osterholm on @SquawkCNBC now: We think there’s something in between containment and mitigation, which we call suppression. Trying to hold down cases because we’re overwhelming the health-care system. “I think we’re in the suppression stage right now.” #COVID19
Meg Tirrell on Twitter

Osterholm on @SquawkCNBC: “Testing in and of itself is only going to have a limited impact on this outbreak. ... This virus is a highly infectious virus.” Study yesterday showed people are highly infectious before they get sick. “This is going to keep spreading.” #COVID19

Osterholm on @SquawkCNBC: “Our job to get the country through this” is to make sure people know there will be widespread transmission of this virus, and keep people at high risk of bad outcomes - older, underlying health conditions - from being exposed. #COVID19

Osterholm on @SquawkCNBC: “We’re approaching this like it’s a Washington DC blizzard,” just going to be shut down for a few days. Going to see transmission for many, many weeks to come and we have to be prepared for that. #COVID19

Cruise ship stranded off south of France as 2 passengers tested for coronavirus

Does any one know how many cruise ships are currently at sea?

A lot. Geez, another Carnival ship?!?

Carnival Cruises ship the Aidasol has been blocked from its Marseille stopover and is idling off the coast of l-Estaque.

The seven-day cruise 'Pearls of the Mediterranean' is due to make the stop in the south of France after visiting Mallorca and Barcelona.

The German cruise ship is able to carry more than 2,100 passengers.

The Aidasol is due to carry on to Livorno and Rome before returning to Mallorca.
