Why in the world did this not make major headlines?!? I don't get it...

Before I read the whole thing or attempt it care to share what's the part you expected to make headlines?

CDC rolling out community based labs in 5 major cities to do community based screening. They will roll out more after that for national surveillance.
"Justifying the move, CDC officials said that there could be undetected cases of the mysterious illness in communities across the US, as the country experiences a dramatic spike in flu as the season approaches its halfway point."

Update on the detained flight from San Francisco that was held on tarmac at London Heathrow. Plane on its way back now to Sam Francisco:

“Waiting at
#SFO for #United Flight 900 passengers who were on a plane that had to be deep cleaned before they boarded as someone fell ill on the previous flight. #DailyMail reports person had #coronavirus symptoms”

@MKingstonNews

NO. WAY. A “deep clean”?? Nope. I would not get on that airplane. Needs more than a quick “deep clean”. Things are being fumigated by people in hazmat suits over in China and it’s STILL spreading.

The virus could be circulating in the airplane ventilation system. “Aerosol plumes”.

Oh, just great. This virus may have been in the general population yet unknown. Well, how's this gonna grab you? Three weeks ago tomorrow I was diagnosed through an x ray with walking pneumonia, given a shot and meds. I seem to be okay. Now I'm wondering... Probably not, but...

I'm finding the news stressful today. I'm not liking sudden reports of it possibly already being here spreading unknown.

Yeah, I don't like misleading reports either. What CDC said is that they are going to surveille now IN CASE they missed some coming out of China, and IN CASE it has been missed in the US with their contact research through the already existing Flu surveillance labs. And in the future to catch.

That's why I wanted to read the actual transcript. Media reported it in a misleading and dramatic way MOO. And that's what I interpreted what the CDC said today.... not that it has been in the US and that the CDC knows such.

Kudos for them making this step to search out if someone submits for flu type symptoms. Surveillance is the same way they caught in Wuhan,, and now we have a test.

MOO MOO MOO

NEW Wuhan tightens lockdown bans people from leaving their home

Instead of concentrating on the numbers, Ive been starting to closely watch what China and other countries are doing to try to guage this.

More lockdowns today and more restrictive lockdowns in China, and now US is going to start to test for the virus on US patients in hospitals with flu like symptoms.

Ok, this is not getting better IMO. :(

China has hit out at countries for 'overreacting' to the killer coronavirus despite it having so far killed more than 1,500 people.

A top Chinese official defended his country's management of the epidemic, while acknowledging that the coronavirus is a 'deep challenge'.

In a wide-ranging interview with Reuters, State Councillor Wang Yi said: "The epidemic overall is under control. The epidemic is truly sudden. It has brought a challenge to China and the world."

"We've taken such complete prevention and control efforts, efforts that are so comprehensive, that I can't see any other country that can do this."

I really do hope this fizzles out eventually.

Read an interesting theory. If the worse case happens and it ends up staying for good, then maybe it will level out with the Flu and equalize without causing much more overall totals than we have each year already with flu because those that would catch it should not be catching regular Flu at the same time.

Would that happen or would it not matter and just add to regular flu totals?

China’s Huanggang to seal apartments as it tightens virus control measures
China’s city of Huanggang, near the epicentre of the outbreak of the coronavirus, said that starting from Friday it would tighten epidemic control measures including sealing residential complexes and only allowing essential vehicles on roads. Food and the delivery of other essential goods will be arranged by designated personnel, the city said in a statement. — Reuters

Don’t worry China says - “The epidemic overall is under control” Cruise ships are being quarantined, planes are being grounded, flights to and from China stopped, manufacturing stopped, millions of people are quarantined, hospitals are being built in seven days, crematoriums can’t keep up with demand but don’t worry it’s no worse than the flu.

I would bet that China's lash out at the west is a reaction to this....or vice versa, as politics goes.....

The United States does “not have high confidence in the information coming out of China” regarding the count of coronavirus cases, a senior administration official told CNBC’s Eamon Javers. The official also noted that China “continues to rebuff American offers of assistance.” The New York Times reported last week that Chinese authorities had shown little interest in accepting help from the U.S. — Lovelace

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.—The U.S. government is preparing to evacuate American citizens from aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, the site of the biggest outbreak of the novel coronavirus outside China, according to an official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

About 380 Americans and their families on the ship, docked in Yokohama, Japan, will be offered seats on two State Department-organized planes flying back to the U.S., said Henry Walke, director of the CDC’s Division of Preparedness and Emerging Infections, on Friday. They are arriving in the U.S. as early as Sunday, he said.

Fabulous news! Get 'em home. I hope other governments follow suit. Noted that the memo came out of Travis AFB.

A 2nd Japanese doctor with COVID19. They really don't seem to be able to prevent spread among the people I expect to be the most knowledgeable and putting the most effort into not catching it.
