Oh no. I was afraid of that for them.

They should have been off that ship a long time ago. Now it will be worse for them. I hope they dont get separated. The US should go back with that special plane and get all British nationals and take them to their own countries as a gesture to help.

Ummm, no. The UK needs to take care of their own folks, or alternatively, charter and pay for the flight to get their citizens home.

Since when is it expected that the United States is the "nanny" for the entire world?

It seems like the UK doesn't want their sick folks or ones who could get sick/be carriers, to come home. That is the problem.

How Canada plans to evacuate its citizens from the Diamond Princess cruise ship

The Canadian Government plans to evacuate its citizens from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama on Thursday, February 20.

Passengers should not leave the ship on Wednesday when the quarantine begins to lift, even if eligible to do so. The flight will leave from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

“Please note that if you leave the ship before you are instructed to do so, it will not be possible to board the assisted Canadian flight.”

I haven't read all of the details, but why is the UK not helping it's own citizens? They already have a coronavirus facility to house these people for 14 days, which they did during the initial evacuation of Wuhan UK ex-pats and put them in quarantine on their own soil (at the facility they had Ben in).

A new WhatsApp scam has been doing the rounds on the platform this week claiming to reveal the cure for coronavirus.

A Twitter user shared an image of the fake message, which it has been claimed has been sent via WhastApp.

The alarming message urges people to pass it on and claims the virus can be cured using a mix made of garlic and boiling water.

It also goes as far to claim that an "old Chinese doctor" has proven its effectiveness, alongside patients supposedly saying the same thing - despite medical authorities stating there is "no specific treatment" for the virus, known as "Covid-19" as yet.

Because originally they was on the ship and the UK was making sure they received the best care possible. Nobody knew how it was going to progress as we are dealing with the unknown.

U.K. health officials turn hotel at Heathrow Airport into quarantine center

Health authorities in the U.K. have taken over a hotel right next to London's Heathrow Airport to use as a quarantine center for anyone returning to the country deemed at risk of the new coronavirus disease.

The Holiday Inn has been block-booked by the Department of Health and all guests transferred to other hotels owned by the chain in the area. There was no indication as of Tuesday that anyone had been moved into the facility for monitoring or testing, but Britain's government was mulling evacuation flights for dozens of nationals stuck on the coronavirus-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship quarantined in Japan, and possibly another evacuation flight for passengers who disembarked this week in Cambodia from another cruise.

As of Monday, of the 4,501 people tested in the U.K., only nine had been confirmed as cases of the COVID-19 disease.

The booking website for the Holiday Inn London - Heathrow Ariel showed no rooms available for public booking until mid-March.

"We will not stop the spread": Experts say many infections going undetected

Singapore's prime minister Lee Hsien Loong has said the new coronavirus is probably already circulating in the population of his country, and warned that if proven, it may require a new strategy by health authorities currently trying to stop it spreading.

His is one of several Asian nations where the COVID-19 disease has already spread between people with no direct links to the outbreak in China.

The Diamond Princess departed from Tokyo for a 14 day cruise returning to Tokyo?
So people had to fly to Tokyo to get on the cruise, is that correct? That had to be an expensive trip! (Especially if you had a balcony or suite)
I was surprised reading several articles report about all the elderly people with compromised health issues that are on the cruise, is that common on these international cruises? I can’t imagine my 85 year old relatives attempting such a trip.

I am pretty sure a lot of older people are taking these cruises. They are retired, with plenty of time to do so.

Yea, they apparently thought they could quarantine the people in place. Instead virus spread turning the ship into one giant Petri dish. I don't think they even know how it spread if people were sitting in their own cabins and not venturing outside.

I am amazed a hotel would sign up for anything like this as and I’m guessing they have thrown a lot of money at the hotel in question.

Who would want to be used as a quarantine base when they don’t know how this disease fully operates? The fact this hotel in question is now all over the news and mud sticks.

yes my mum said the same thing.

cruises are mainly for the elderly as they are retired and can go on month long holidays. That’s why I have always had zero interest in as being stuck at sea for days on end would be so dull. Even though it seems the luxury liners have now turned some of their ships into Palaces on water I still don’t think I could do more than 10 days.

How do people cope on World cruises that are half a year long? I have often wondered this.

Sorry I thought you meant on the ship :)

Well if they go dark then I will believe they have been cut off but they are still managing to speak out at the moment. Also them not being ill is laughable as if the Chinese have enough time to fake their results when they are dealing with 10000’s of test results. It’s ridiculous to even suggest something so outlandish. IMO
They are actually in Japan, who at the moment trying to keep things under control......see my posts upthread from yesterday. This is Japan's strategy to try and keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. Milder symptoms go to other facilities while critical go to hospital. In Japan, after 4 days of fever you are to call a number and they will tell you where to go. Two days for elderly. You can't make this stuff up.....

Wondering how each country tests for the virus and how many cases will go undetected or misdiagnosed. I just finished with walking pneumonia. If under the wrong circumstances (i.e. cruise), would I have been misdiagnosed and placed under quarantine and then actually come down with the virus?

Yes, the Sky article specifically points out that the overwhelming majority of ship's denizens who tested positive are, in fact, not displaying any symptoms.

I agree with him. Singapore reported the first 2 cases between January 21 to 24. A month later they have 77 cases.

China had their first cases December 8-10. They reported 41 cases on December 31st and on January 8th, a month after onset, they reported 59 cases, with the first death on January 11th.

Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong are just getting ramped up.

Two more people test positive for Wuhan virus in Singapore; total of 3 confirmed cases: MOH

99 cases from the ship yesterday, 88 today SMDH. Waiting to see if I have to eat crow as I'm still thinking no way in HECK are they gonna let folks off there even if negative as obvious to me they are getting infected on the ship. Sally and David Abel even commented that day before yesterday staff was on their hands and knees cover the air vents to their rooms hmmm...

today's WHO daily presser is at 10:30 am today.

88 new cases in Japan. They were found on the “Diamond Princess” cruise ship off Yokohama, raising the ship’s total to 542.
