U.S. Daegu Army base restricts access, imposes self-quarantine after South Korean church linked to coronavirus

.....

“All service members who’ve attended the New World Church (Sin Cheon Ji Gyo hoe) since Feb. 9 will undergo a mandatory self-quarantine — and is highly recommended for family members, civilians and contractors — until KCDC completes their contact trace procedures to determine who has been exposed to COVID-19,” USFK commander Gen. Robert Abrams said in a separate statement.

“The New World Church in Nam-gu, Daegu (near Camp Walker’s Gate 6) is off limits until further notice,” the Daegu garrison said in a statement posted on Facebook.

It later added four other facilities to the list, saying people who visited them should notify their leadership and self-quarantine as a precautionary measure.

The garrison identified those as the Daegu Medical Center, Suseong-gu Health Clinic, Saeronan Oriental Clinic and Queen Vell Hotel.

 Didn’t an earlier article say the daily number of worshippers at that church is estimated to be about 8,000?

That’s expecting a lot of self-quarantining..... kind of hard to enforce with those numbers, and thus questionably effective.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The new virus has killed two elderly Iranian citizens, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported Wednesday.

IRNA quoted Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to the country's health minister, as saying that both of the victims had been carrying the coronavirus and were located in Qom, about 140 kilometers (86 miles) south of the capital Tehran. No additional details were released...

...“Iran has applied safety measure on arrival flights at its airports to control a possible spread of the virus.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, nine cases have been confirmed in the United Arab Emirates, seven of them Chinese nationals, one Indian and one Filipino, while Egypt's Health Ministry confirmed its first case last Friday.”

Coronavirus fears prompt neighbors of California mom, daughter in self-quarantine to call cops

“I’m just frustrated and angry and upset,” said Amy Deng, 45, who is under self-quarantine with her daughter in their Santa Rosa, Calif., home.

The pair visited Guangzhou, China, over the Chinese New Year, around the same time the novel coronavirus began to ravage the city of Wuhan. Though Guangzhou is located some 600 miles south of Wuhan, and the two allegedly had no known “high-risk” exposures during their travels, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) assessed Deng and her 8-year-old daughter Daisy’s risk as “medium.” They were forced into 14-day self-quarantine as a result.

For two weeks, Deng has closed her Chinese acupuncture and herbal medicine practice. Daisy, a fourth-grader, cannot attend school; her parents, who are recently divorced, have taken to homeschooling her in the meantime. The 8-year-old has missed birthday parties and has kept up with friends via FaceTime.

Deng, who is originally from China but has been an American citizen since 2012, claims a neighbor called the police on them out of fears her daughter would spread the virus after seeing Daisy get into the car with her father, who is not required to self-monitor for the virus and does not have any quarantine restrictions.

Just a tiny preview of what's to come....so sorry the rest of us don't want to risk our life so your daughter can go to a birthday party.

So is the daughter supposed to be self-quarantining or no? Sounds like she is. So getting into the car to go somewhere doesn’t sound like self-quarantining to me.

This whole self-quarantine thing is so nebulous.

The American who stayed on the ship instead of leaving on Sunday has tweeted that they received a notice they have tested negative and will be leaving the ship today. He says they were sweet words, and they will now enjoy Tokyo for two weeks while they wait to be removed from the US no fly list.

It is odd to me that I'm not seeing much chatter on my social media feeds about anyone feeling the need to "prep" for a potential outbreak in the US.
I'm making my list.
#1 A MONTH TO 6 WEEKS OF DOG FOOD!
*on a side note, being claustrophobic, these pictures of all the health care workers are suffocating! - as is the coronavirus.

I have about 100 plus rolls of tp total and 6 weeks worth of dog food just because of potential ice storms. (A few years back, had to slide a 24 of tp down the icey driveway, kinda like curling, to my neighbour,
who had negotiated down his driveway and across the road)

Does this sound nebulous? Lucky they haven't been sent to a base for quarantine......

(d) Apprehension and examination of persons reasonably believed to be infected
(1) Regulations prescribed under this section may provide for the apprehension and examination of any individual reasonably believed to be infected with a communicable disease in a qualifying stage and (A) to be moving or about to move from a State to another State; or (B) to be a probable source of infection to individuals who, while infected with such disease in a qualifying stage, will be moving from a State to another State. Such regulations may provide that if upon examination any such individual is found to be infected, he may be detained for such time and in such manner as may be reasonably necessary. For purposes of this subsection, the term “State” includes, in addition to the several States, only the District of Columbia.

(2) For purposes of this subsection, the term “qualifying stage”, with respect to a communicable disease, means that such disease—

(A) is in a communicable stage; or

(B) is in a precommunicable stage, if the disease would be likely to cause a public health emergency if transmitted to other individuals.

After packing their bags and getting ready to take the rescue flight from Tokyo to Darwin overnight, one Melbourne family has been forced to stay on-board after testing positive to coronavirus.
"We were pushing our bags out when the call came with our test results from Monday's sampling. Kaitlyn has tested positive. We will not be taking the flight tonight. Our family will stay together," Aun Na Tan shared across social media.

I’m not even talking about prepping for an outbreak, but just for a low supply of things China produces. Last year my dad had ongoing pneumonia. I’m certain his doctor probably told him at some point to get mucinex in addition to the prescribed meds. But two months into it, I finally questioned him about what he had been taking. No mucinex. Claimed he had never heard of it. I drove to the nearest store and bought him two boxes. He finally got the crap out of his lungs and recovered.

For many of us, spring will bring intense allergies that can then turn into bronchitis and even walking pneumonia. Mucinex is key whether the coronavirus reaches us or not. I don’t know where it’s produced so I’m stocking up (also the benedryl and Zyrtec just in case)!

I have some benedryl for the dog ... and he has his own polysporin.
And what's Zyrtec? Googled
It's an antihistamine.

Can you provide a link please? Thank you.

The Guardian is doing live updates from Japan on the Diamond Princess. Nothing much is being updates except they are now saying the British man and Wife, Dave & Sally Abel did not test positive. It apparently was a communication between a non-English Japanese official. They are still on the ship.

Link please.

Are they positive or not?

Please do not read between lines making 2+2=5. I have tried to explain what is happening yet the more I say, the confusion increases for some people.

No live feeds are continuing here or YouTube.
No TV or news interviews are being given.
All friend requests are being ignored until back in UK.

What’s App messages are remaining unanswered.

In an attempt to discover the truth we have located a Doctor who speaks English.

We are confirmed having the virus.
We are going to a hostel for 4-5 days until we can be transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Can you understand how the message yesterday was easily misunderstood?

We both feel fine but have indeed tested positive for the virus.

Hopefully this now makes for a clearer understanding.

Unfortunately comments will not be answered. Our focus is now very much on our family. Thank you for your continued love & support. Sally & David

I was thinking just less than an hour ago... who was the WS'er that posted the military implementation order. It was you I remember now. I cannot find the original order, perhaps you posted. But I do recall (if my memory serves me) that the SPECIFIC order expired February 20th. Tomorrow. Has another been issued?

I've searched for that order which was declassified, and I can't locate to link but I'm 99.999999% positive it expired tomorrow and wanted to see a new one.

CDC issues travel guidelines for Hong Kong after second coronavirus-related death in the city

Travelers to Hong Kong should avoid contact with sick people, the CDC said, and regularly wash their hands. It is the CDC’s lowest-level travel warning, but it is the first coronavirus-related travel notice issued by the U.S. government for a territory beyond mainland China.

The CDC said it issued the notice because “multiple instances of community spread have been reported in Hong Kong.” “Community spread means that people in Hong Kong have been infected with the virus, but how or where they became infected is not known,” according to the CDC.

The announcement comes after a Hong Kong hospital confirmed the death on Wednesday of a 70-year-old man due to the virus. It is the second coronavirus-related death in the city. The man was one of at least 62 patients with coronavirus in Hong Kong.

Last month, the CDC issued a level three travel warning for all of China, telling Americans to avoid all nonessential travel to China.

The one thing this virus is showing me is his selfish people now are.

Now don’t get me wrong I can be selfish as I’m sure my parents will tell you but there are limits to it. So many people are so self entitled now and this really shows when you see something like this happening.

Today's WHO situation report is out. Wasn't home to do today's meeting, if there was one

https://www.who.int/docs/default-so...00219-sitrep-30-covid-19.pdf?sfvrsn=6e50645_2

WHO is working with an international network of statisticians and mathematical modelers to estimate key epidemiologic parameters of COVID-19, such as the incubation period (the time between infection and symptom onset), case fatality ratio (CFR, the proportion of cases that die), and the serial interval(the time between symptom onset of a primary and secondary case). Reports of current analyses that have estimated these parameters are provided in this Situation Report as a summary of currently available evidence. These values should be considered preliminary and parameters will likely be updated as more information becomes available. Modelling can support decision-making but needs to be combined with rigorous data collection and a comprehensive analysis of the situation. Please see the Subject in Focus section for more information.....

The confirmed case fatality ratio,or CFR,is the total number of deaths divided by the total number of confirmed cases at one point in time. Within China, the confirmed CFR, as reported by the Chinese Centerfor Disease Control and Prevention,9is 2.3%.....However, it is too early to draw conclusions as to whether there are real differences in the CFR inside and outside of China, as final outcome data (that is, who will recover and who will die) for the majority of cases reported from outside China are not yet known. .......

Modeling is a helpful tool to try to account for missed cases, such as those that are mild cases potentially missed in current surveillance activities, and the time lag between onset and death. Using an estimated number of total infections, the Infection Fatality Ratio can be calculated. This represents the fraction of all infections (both diagnosed and undiagnosed) that result in death. Based on these available analyses, current IFR estimates10,11,12range from 0.3% to 1%. Without population-based serologic studies, it is not yet possible to know what proportion of the population has been infected with COVID-19. Modeling has also been used to estimate the impact of the 23 January, 2020 Wuhan travel ban on reducing transmission both inside and outside of China.13,14According to these models, travel restrictions alone are projected to have only a modest effect on the progression of the outbreak; they would need to be combined with other public health interventions, such as early case isolation, other forms of mobility restrictions, social distancing and population-level behavioral changes to be effective.

Visual below (Dear China.....) from report also. NOTE: Does not include 79 cases from Princess this am US time.

I find this absurd, if they were that worried..don’t fly.

“Two passengers have been spotted on an Aussie flight wrapped in plastic sheets in an attempt to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

A fellow passenger shared a video of the couple on social media yesterday, showing their homemade plastic wrap suits. The couple, who were on board a flight from Sydney to Hamilton Island off the coast of Queensland, were also wearing surgical gloves and face masks.”
