ikr

I know the death rate still seems to be relatively low compared to people getting it, but still, who would have thunk by taking what was supposed to be an enjoyable vacation cruise would actually end up dead.

Prayers for ALL that were on and maybe still on that ship (the Infected, the not infected, and now the dead). Good Grief. :(

And I do wonder, were that man and woman married?

If someone is supposed to be in quarantine then they should stay in quarantine. They can’t guarantee they won’t suddenly come upon a jogger in a park. I don’t understand why this would be hard when quarantined in your own home. I don’t understand why anyone would think of leaving quarantine, gaging how populated a destination might be. It’s just wrong. Those are the people who are going to kill us so they could get a bit of fresh air.

Nope. Quarantine means quarantine. If you can’t/won’t self-quarantine properly, then you should be put somewhere people can keep an eye on you for the remainder of your time.

Im with you on the Quarantine rules. Either do it or dont, but no inbetween IMO.

Cheating death: China's Wuhan coronavirus survivors recall ordeal
''Chengdu, China
- Scrambled eggs with tomatoes - that's the first dish coronavirus survivor Yangyang, 28, made for herself after being discharged from No 7 Hospital in Wuhan, in Hubei province - the epicentre of the outbreak in China.

"This is the first time I thought eggs were so delicious," Yangyang wrote on social media. "All the other friends who are still fighting in the hospitals - I can't wait to see you all very soon!"
''After escaping what she describes as a near-death experience, Yangyang is now one of the estimated 14,000 people in mainland China who has beaten the virus.''

'Bureaucrats were in charge': Japanese doctor blasts ship quarantine

'Bureaucrats were in charge': Japanese doctor blasts ship quarantine

TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese infectious disease specialist has castigated his government’s handling of quarantine on a coronavirus-stricken cruise ship, saying it was run by “bureaucrats” who stoked the crisis by failing to follow basic protocols.

Very interesting video.....and also very scary! He talks about the conditions he found on the Diamond Princess.

Yes, I agree with you. I think what I meant and what I said went a bit wrong.

I think I was thinking back to my thoughts when people (not infected or known to be in contact with someone infected) in tower blocks were being shut away inside and windows closed and ending up with the whole family coming down with it, one after another.

But at the same time I completely agree with you if it's an official self-isolation or self-quarantine, to stay at home.

And yet, I fear a scenario where 1 person in a town tests positive and everyone in town keeps their kids indoors and won't let them play in their own yard, or take them to a deserted park to run around and play while not mixing closely with lots of people.

I truly am amazed at how a communist country can silence their citizens in this day and age.
Doesn't nearly everyone have a cellphone?
Yet, they are keeping silent, or being silenced during one of the most major events in their lives.
This entire, hugely populated countries citizens are silent.
Astounding.
If this exact same scenario was happening in the USA, the airwaves, media, youtube, and radio commentators would be going nuts.
We share the same planet, but we are all so different. Really blows me away.

It's from The Guardian but........

Japanese media says both Diamond Princess ship fatalities were from Japan

The two Diamond Princess passengers who died on Thursday were both Japanese, NHK reported - an 87-year-old man and an 84-year-old woman. Both victims reportedly had pre-existing medical conditions, the broadcaster said, adding that the man had been hospitalized on 11 February and the woman the following day.

I think fear plays a large role in the silence............

BBM / Noting Johns Hopkins resource, not sure if posted:

Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, which has built a map of coronavirus data including cases, fatalities and recoveries, also cites two deaths from the Diamond Princess, which brings the total death toll from the virus in Japan to three. Per the data, 621 cases of the virus had been identified among the 3,711 quarantined passengers and crew, making the ship the site of the most infections outside of China; one Diamond Princess passenger has recovered.”

“Later the same day, Johns Hopkins University, which has been keeping a digital dashboard of all the cases, deaths and recovered patients across the globe added the 14 infected American evacuees from the Diamond Princess to the United States' tally for a total of 29, nearly doubling its previous total of 15. The new figure represents the highest infection rate of any Western country. The next closest is Germany, which has 16.”

You’re right it is incredible but the consequences of speaking out are too great for most people to risk. The few that have spoken out are very brave indeed. I can’t imagine living under this kind of rule.

China again alters the methodology for counting coronavirus cases, as death toll rises to 2,118.

For the second time in a week, China on Thursday changed its criteria for confirming coronavirus cases, throwing into confusion the methodology that the country at the heart of the outbreak uses to track transmissions and resulting in a dramatic decrease in new infections.

Using the new criteria, officials in the province on Thursday recorded 349 new cases in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total national figures to 74,576. New deaths rose by 114 on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 2,118.

“A 35-year-old man from Washington State who last month became the first confirmed coronavirus patient in the United States has made a full recovery, health officials in Snohomish County, Wash., said on Wednesday.

Since his discharge from the hospital about three weeks ago, the man has remained at home and in isolation at the request of local health officials. He was supplied with groceries, and on Valentine’s Day was given a cupcake.

But after consulting with state and federal officials, the Snohomish Health District concluded that it was safe to release him from all restrictions.

“He is now considered fully recovered and free to go about his regular activities,” Snohomish officials said in a statement. “We cannot thank him enough for his patience and cooperation throughout the entire process.”

The man tested positive for the virus after returning to his home in Snohomish County, Wash., after visiting family in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak. He was admitted to an isolation unit at Providence Regional Medical Center, where his condition worsened before improving.

Nine days after his symptoms started, an X-ray revealed pneumonia, according to a description of his case published in the New England Journal of Medicine. He received an experimental antiviral drug called remdesivir on a compassionate basis, which the Food and Drug Administration allows for drugs not yet federally approved.“

He’s an example of someone who was patient and cooperated, unlike some of these other bozos we’ve been reading about. I’m glad the officials took the time to recognize his cooperation.

Iranian authorities have confirmed two fatal coronavirus cases in the country, marking the first deaths from the virus to the Middle East.

The virus has killed two elderly Iranian citizens, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday.

IRNA quoted Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to the country’s health minister, as saying that both victims had been carrying coronavirus and were located in Qom, about 140km south of the capital Tehran.

Australia will extend its ban on travellers from China for a further week, to February 29.

In a joint press release, the Morrison Government confirmed it had extended the travel restrictions on overseas visitors entering Australia from China.

“The protection and safety of Australians is our highest priority,” the statement said.
