The Decatur County Sheriff's Office in Oberlin, Kansas, said meth purchased locally might be contaminated with coronavirus (which is not true) and they are advising drug users to get their supplies tested for free.

“If you have recently purchased meth locally, it may be contaminated with the coronavirus,” the post said. “Please take it to the sheriff's office or police department and they will test it for free." “If you're not comfortable going into an office, please contact any officer and they'll test your meth in the privacy of your home. Please spread the word!”

COVID-19: Kansas sheriff’s office will test your meth for coronavirus

Taking bets now on how many people show up there and get arrested on the spot. :)

I vote that at least 2 or 3 people will show up and maybe more.

New US coronavirus case may be 1st from unknown origin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — State and federal health officials are trying to locate everyone who came in contact with a northern California woman believed to be the first in the U.S. to contract the coronavirus with no known connection to travel abroad or other known causes.

The woman lives in Solano County, home to the Travis Air Force Base where dozens of people infected in China or on cruise ships have been treated. But Sonia Angell, director of the California Department of Public Health, said there was no evidence the woman had any connection to the base.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declined comment when asked by reporters to name the community in Solano County the woman was from but urged people to take precautions while emphasizing that the risks to public health were low. He said there was no need to declare a public health emergency...

This IS a joke, right?

I suspect it is a two-fold thing. One is to see if anyone bites and the 2nd one is most will realize it is a sort of joke.

LE has done similar before when trying to roundup people that had outstanding warrants. I dont have a link handy but remember it in the news. They sent people that had outstanding warrants a "PRIZE letter because they won a Contest", and all they had to do was arrive at a certain building to claim their prize. LE was amazed at how many showed up and were arrested due to outstanding warrants and the fake "prize letter".

Michigan school officials prepare for coronavirus impact

State education and health officials are discussing the coronavirus' potential impact on K-12 schools in Michigan in the wake of a warning from federal health officials that schools should prepare for a surge in cases nationwide.

Chris Wigent, executive director of the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, sent an email to members Wednesday informing them of active discussions between officials at the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and others to ensure that superintendents and school districts are equipped to respond.

"I wanted to reach out to all of you and let you know that there are currently state-wide discussions taking place regarding this important issue between MDE, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other organizations," Wigent said in an email to members.

"MASA will work closely with these partners to provide information and resources to districts as soon as they are released with the intent being to make sure that you have the most up-to-date information," the email said...

WHO warns against 'fatal' complacency in global coronavirus fight

GENEVA/DUBAI (Reuters) - No country should make the “fatal mistake” of assuming it will be spared the coronavirus, the World Health Organization said on Thursday, as governments from Iran to Australia raced to contain the epidemic’s rapid global spread.
“No country should assume it won’t get cases, that would be a fatal mistake, quite literally,” Tedros said, pointing to Italy, where authorities said three more people had died, bringing the toll from Europe’s worst outbreak of the illness to 17. Confirmed cases there rose to 650.

As well as stockpiling medical supplies, governments ordered schools shut and canceled big gatherings, including sports events, to try to halt the flu-like disease that emerged in China more than two months ago from an illegal wildlife market.

Not sure if previously posted. Suggestions from a doctor who worked on the Ebola outbreak.

During a viral pandemic, we are often our own worst enemies.
Point in fact: We touch our face with our hands, including our nose, eyes, and mouth -- areas with mucous membranes, an average of 15 to 23 times an hour. Much of the time, we don't even realize we are doing it. We also touch door handles, subway poles, handrails, saltshakers, other people's hands and grocery carts. We inhale tiny droplets that come from someone sneezing or coughing nearby.

Here is the best advice I can give you, to avoid any virus and flu: Be intentionally hygienic in public and during interactions with others. Hand hygiene is a cornerstone of infection prevention. Effective hand hygiene requires appropriate duration and thoroughness, which should be a goal each time our hands are cleaned.

Use soap and water for the amount of time it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. In a study we conducted on hand hygiene, the most common areas missed by hand washers were thumbs, wrists, and in between fingers.

Quite simply, good hand hygiene and face hygiene will protect you from a lot of illnesses, including Covid-19.

Sort of no-brainer advice, but I’ve added these things to my to-do/to-get list. She makes an interesting point that many ingredients in prescription meds come from China, so it’s wise to get a 90 day supply.

Dr. Celine Gounder, a professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the NYU School of Medicine, urged Americans to have plenty of hand sanitizer and a healthy supply of medications on hand as coronavirus fears grow.

"I would definitely have some alcohol-based hand sanitizer above 60% alcohol content. You want to have it in your purse, in your backpack all over the place," Gounder said on CNN today.

She said the first thing you should do when you come home from school or work is to use that.

Gounder also advises that you stock up on ibuprofen, Tylenol, or any prescription medications. For a lot of these products, either the ingredients that are used to make medications or the medications themselves are from China, so call your doctor if you are on prescription medications, and ask them for a 90-day supply instead of a 30-day. And make sure you have refills.

"Have that stuff on hand. There may be some disruptions in supply as well as getting into your doctor's office," Gounder said.

I've always done my annual physical during late September. After the kiddos go back to school so I'm not there when kids are, and also before the beginning of flu season.

Just a consideration for you older folks here

Super smart suggestion. Thanks for that!

“CDC does not currently recommend the use of facemasks to help prevent novel #coronavirus. Take everyday preventive actions, like staying home when you are sick and washing hands with soap and water, to help slow the spread of respiratory illness. #COVID19 bit.ly/37Ay6Cm”

I think the important word here is “currently”, I can’t imagine this will stay this way...
