I’m sorry this is happening in your community, MJPeony. I really am. I’d be very unhappy to hear my community. It’s only a matter of time probably. :(

Ya me too, MJ
I feel for ya.
It's a way different situation now.
Not just random cases geographically displaced.
But community transmission.

Places to avoid while this is going on? The economic impact IMO will be severe.

Here's a few on my immediate thought list. Please add your ideas... Planes, trains cruise ships. Buffets and salad bars, Casinos, sporting events, movie theaters, Costco and Walmart. Swap meets and large Farmer's markets. Large busy restaurants, large music concerts, emergency rooms, large parties and conventions.
I am talking about avoiding, not banning.
As this virus seems to be moving rapidly, these are my thoughts.
Am I over thinking this?
Your ideas and thoughts? TIA

This is spot on IMO.

I especially like the avoiding rather than total banning because when realistically thinking about this, its hard to avoid certain obligations we all have. But wherever we can, we can make choices to lessen the degree of risk of catching it so we can do what we can to minimize the risk.

So if there ends up being active cases in someone's area, then even things that are not obvious like going Bowling may be something to avoid unless you are in a bowling league which would be hard to quit altogether. Something like bowling is not obvious but when you think about it, other people touch your bowling ball as they have to rearrange where their ball is on the return rack. By the end of a bowling game, everyone in your lane and in the lane next to you probably handled your bowling ball.

I can't figure out why all the pandemic lists include water and batteries. Those are hurricane power outage necessities. Why do people need to worry about a power out in a virus pandemic?
I have no idea. I have not bought extra batteries because I recently just replaced everything this winter anyway. I only mentioned the ice storm because my point was to always be prepared, as opposed to prepping for a specific event. It keeps me from a mad rush to the grocery store when others are freaking out about snow storms or other events. And I’m always prepared for power outages because I’d like my food not to spoil, so we have a generator. I like to be generally prepared for all events that can keep you home, as well as those that can drive you out of your home (such as weeks-long power outages that occasionally happened in the south in the winter).

North Korea extends school breaks over virus fears

North Korea has postponed the new school term to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, reports said, the latest measure as the ill-equipped country ramps up efforts to prevent a devastating outbreak.

Pyongyang has not reported a single case of the COVID-19.

"School breaks for students have been extended as a preventive measure against the infection," the Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, according to Yonhap news agency.

The way the US is handling, I think they will follow suit (see my above post about being wrong :p) I think now they do this for many reasons, both epidemiologically and economic reasons etc. But I do think WHO and epidemiologists agree with this way once it gets hold in a country.

I just wish they would explain it though.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's public health authorities said Thursday they have not found a genetic mutation in the new coronavirus so far, suggesting that the possibility of developing medications, including vaccines, may be higher than what has been thought.

(LEAD) No genetic mutation in new coronavirus found: KCDC | Yonhap News Agency

That is good news to hear. Lets hope it stays that way and does not mutate into something worse.

There is a case now in Geneva, may all those at WHO headquarters in Geneva be safe from it.

So, the meeting will start before the market opens in US. Right now, futures on major indices are down ~1.5%

ETA ALSO OF NOTE: They are removing some of the media chairs. Every other chair/microphone has just been removed. More spacing between them. Hmmmm

9:00 am we have started. Dr. Mike and Dr. Pedros is there. It will be short, as there is an important meeting following they need to attend to.

Been following this thread religiously and so appreciate all of you. I have been consumed by this as I have bad asthma and propensity for chest/lung infection. I ordered masks at the onset and have 10 simple n95 masks. I gave to my sister and mother. No cases where I live but my twin sis and I are supposed to go to casino and spa tomorrow for our birthday. We planned a while ago as we have a real birthday this year Feb 29th lol. Now I’m dreading it and not sure if I should cancel or if I am ridiculous.

FYI I tried to order expensive masks from Amazon yesterday. Everything went through and I was charged but then got email saying order canceled out of stock. This keeps happening. My question is how many masks do we need?? Are you all expecting to remain in your homes? At what stage will you make the decision? When someone is infected in your neighborhood? Thank you in advance for your thoughts
