WHO recommends lock down of clusters as the most effective control measure....the clusters of community spread are currently in Italy, South Korea, and Iran.

How does that work? I know that’s not a simple answer but it seems so complex.

I have to have a follow up visit with my doctor and she asked whether I wanted an in person or phone. I picked phone. I do NOT want to go into medical facilities at this point.
Great choice.....

Agree. Putting off annual checkups for the moment.

Upstream there was a post about telemedicine, and three apps/companies. Not sure if that could be helpful for you. If you would like more information on the specifics I’ll look for the post.

Much more difficult in the US. Italy closed down all highways into the specific area to slow down the movement. The idea was to lock down areas outside of the large city to slow the entrance, maybe eliminate it getting to the cities.

Thank you! My health plan does have phone appointments available for some stuff. So I’m going to try to change everything. Otherwise I’m wearing a damn mask and gloves into the building.

While there are no cases presently within my City I have stopped going to my cardio/weights class. I just don't want to be where multiple people congregate, sweat and handle weights. I'm sure I would touch my eye/nose even tho I am really trying to be conscious of not doing it.

US health secretary says 40 labs can test for coronavirus

Alex Azar, the US's health and human services secretary, said at least 40 public health labs can currently test specimens for coronavirus and that could more than double as soon as Friday.

Speaking before the House Ways and Means Committee, Azar said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (DCD) had tested 3,625 specimens for the fast-moving virus as of Thursday morning.

He said a newly manufactured CDC test can be sent to 93 public health labs as soon as Monday, and a privately manufactured test based on the new CDC test could be sent to those same labs as early as tomorrow, pending FDA clearance.

I see what you mean. Many European cities still have that sort of isolation from one another. Where many American cities bleed into one another.

In what way? How can we lock down a whole nation?

I think what you mean to say was

How can we lock down a whole nation OF ARMED PEOPLE?

Me too. I’m constantly accidentally touching my face. But I’m always very paranoid about what I touch and people coughing or sneezing around me. If I touch a surface I physically feel it on my hands until I wash them. And if anyone is coughing or sneezing I run. Because with asthma a “mild” cold can be a month of illness.

Excellent doc, thanks!

I thought so too. It was quite chilling watching the door to door forced quarantines as well (again). There were some I hadn’t seen..

“Knock knock, temperature check”, BAM next thing you know you’re being forcefully dragged out by teams in hazmat suits - scary stuff.

I wanted to make a note about the Australian citizen reporting in that documentary from Wuhan, who bless his heart is right in the middle of everything . Iirc his name is Tim McLean. I’d like to make a note to check into his status further.

ETA:
@dotr - that was wild to see them literally WELDING people’s doors closed.

I was thinking about that yesterday.

Not touching that with a ten foot pole.

Which reminds me:

Get the vaccine for Strept. pneumococcus ( a bad actor bacteria that can cause fatal pneumonia, even in healthy young adults)

Prevnar 13 and Pneumovax 23 are both available at most pharmacies (Costco, Walgreen's)

I’m hoping people will understand and comply! Hadn’t thought of that. We are Americans. Not an easy bunch to corral. And lots of paranoid people too.

I thought about gyms/pools, etc. after I posted earlier (#379) about hair/nail salons and spas. Locker rooms should be avoided along with public restrooms.
