This is even stranger:

KOMO news in Seattle is reporting it was a 50-yr old MAN that died.

First US death from coronavirus confirmed in Washington state

The Washington State Governor's website is even more cryptic about it:

Inslee statement on death in Washington state from COVID-19 | Governor Jay Inslee

How can the news be so utterly messed up?
bbm
Ita.

There were reports that the doctor who initially broke the Covid 19 story (he sounded the alarm that it was out and spreading) mysteriously died after initial reports that he was on the mend.
Then the article disappeared from Abc news.

I think they probably knew about the second death but refrained from announcing it until locals were able to reach out to family/friends of the young man. JMO.

Could be that, too.Yes.

Dear @JerseyGirl,

Thank you for this information.

Delay in symptoms appearing seems to be one of the most serious obstacles thwarting efforts to contain the Coronavirus:

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

"Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure*:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath"
Agreed.
The problem is that many may mistake it for the ordinary flu symptoms.
This Covid seems to be affecting people regardless of age or current health (frail or robust).

Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA where the 50 year old man died from COVID-19 is not an academic hospital and would not have the ability to test the patient in their own lab.

They would have to send it out to the Washington State Health Dept. I don't think even UW Medical Center in Seattle would have had the test available to them several days ago.

Another delay in diagnosis

Coronavirus: Seattle area facility reports nation's first cluster of cases

Health officials announced on Saturday an outbreak of coronavirus illness in a long term health care facility in the Seattle region.

The cases are unrelated to Saturday’s death of Washington state man in his 50s.

There are two confirmed cases in the Life Care Center of Kirkland, Washington, which provides skilled nursing care and rehabilitation.

One is in a healthcare worker, who is in satisfactory condition. The second is a facility resident in their 70s, who is in serious condition.

In addition, 27 of the 108 residents at the facility have symptoms of the illness and 25 of the facility’s 180 staff have symptoms.

Dear @JerseyGirl,

I am so deeply saddened to hear about the cases.

This has got to be somehow contained. I have no answers, of course, but I have recently contacted my government officals to ask why this isn't declared a "pandemic" and what are they doing about this?

I offered my support to them, while I stated we need accurate information now.

Actually, the world needs accurate information now.

Non political statement:

He’s already been getting clobbered in the media for things relating to CV. Doing a Presidential Briefing to announce the first death in the United States and you don’t even get the gender right? It was a “wonderful woman”? Lol. I have no political agenda or affiliation, I’d say wow if it was anyone, red, blue or green.

Briefings are supposed to bring information. Not cause further confusion. Moo.

That’s all I’ll say about that.

But what about the 19 year old man?

Are we sure it’s a mistake? I guess we are?

All confused. The details will reveal themselves soon enough I suppose.

Maybe transgender?
There’s a 19 year old man and a woman in her 50’s diagnosed yesterday in Washington state. Maybe that’s where some of the confusion comes from. IMO

How many Confirmed cases in the US now?
Reported- 44 passengers from Cruise Ship
22- others- active confirmed
Probably 1,000 or more in testing and monitoring stage. Florida, alone, has 156 being
monitored who arrive this week from China.
600 others on the China return trip were allowed to go home.

This one is Norovirus.....

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A cruise ship's journey was cut short after several passengers and crew members became ill.

The Caribbean Princess docked in Port Everglades early Saturday morning.

It's the second consecutive sailing on that ship in which passengers and crew fell sick.

This time, Caribbean Princess reported at least 228 passengers and 17 crew members suffering from a stomach bug during its 14-day voyage, which was shortened by a day due to the outbreak.

Passengers leaving the ship told Local 10 News they, and crew alike, began taking precautionary measures after what they were told was an outbreak of Norovirus.

"In the buffet area, the crew members were serving us," passenger Lovena Fox said. "They wouldn't let us touch the food."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent a vessel sanitation program investigation team to intensely clean the ship and try to get to the bottom of what caused the outbreak.

The first incident aboard the Caribbean Princess saw over 400 people become sick.

The ship is expected to set sail on Sunday with a new group of passengers on board.

The Washington state presser just ended.

Myself, I give it a +15 on a scale of 1 to 10.

EXEMPLARY presser. MOO

They answered as we at WS know the facts, and didn't try to hide. They gave reasons for lacking, and reasons for what is done. It by Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr was one for all communities to copy MOO.

For those on WS that live in that area, you guys should be proud of those in leadership MOO. What they gave to the community that is probably new to them, but known here...great job on education that hasn't been done before anywhere MOO

Fantastic presser, even a bad news presser iykwim.

So a little update on my prep shopping. I live in Michigan, in a large suburb of Detroit. Hand sanitizer was very hard to find. I tried Target, Costco and Meijer. No luck. I finally found some at Lowes. They were running very low. Funny thing is, I always have hand sanitizer around. Usually a little one in my purse, hubby's car and in our camper. We were due to repurchase just from everyday use and about 2 months ago, pre Covid19, I said we needed it, we were on the last of it. Put it off so long, who knew it would be hard to find. I left some for the next person, just buying what I would have bought either way to restock.

As for the stores, wow...I am shocked at how picked over the basics were. You could really tell people were stocking up on TP, cleaning supplies, and medicines. What was even more telling was the empty shelves were the powdered and canned milk was as well as the soups, beans and stuff like that. While there was still plenty to chose from, you could see that the stuff was moving fast. I stocked up on the over the counter meds we use, just enough to last a bit, nothing to over done. Some Advil, Pepto, and come cold medicine.

I ended up with only things I know we will use, just more of it. I bought several jars of pasta sauce, noodles of all variety, some quinoa and rice pouches to reheat. A case of black beans, peanut butter, supplies to make my own bread. Also, hemp hearts, dried mixed bean bag for soup, lots of veggie broth, several packages of tofu. And...a case of canned diced tomatoes, several boxes of Daiya mac and cheese, Busch's veg baked beans, a few dozen Clif Bars, Udon noodles, Miso Broth, dried mushrooms and canned mushrooms, a few of each. I also bought 6 boxes of shelf stable almond milk and a few boxes of cereal. I also use Just Egg, vegan egg replacer so I bought 3 of those to make 6 omelette meals.

For the freezer: three packs of Beyond Burger, 12 Beyond Brats, a pack of veggie dogs and 4 packages of Gardein Chick'in. Each will make a meal. I usually don't buy frozen veggies but I did buy a bag of frozen carrots, broccoli and corn. A bag of frozen mango, a bag of blueberries and strawberries, frozen. 3 bags of edamame, and a few bean burritos.

So this is my stash. I am sure I will add to it. A few other notes: We are vegan so my choices may be different from most. Also, I did not forget the most important things:

A case of wine for the wine fridge and 2 cases of beer. A nice variety of IPA's.

Seriously who cares.

DH and I have been wearing masks the last couple of times we've flown. We used to feel conspicuous but no longer give a flying hoot what our fellow passengers think :D
