Ha ha! So not that similar. Interesting though.
CDC director said 15% to 20% of cases are critical - where people end up in the hospital needing medical attention.
Check the PC video from earlier today.
Just trying to keep info accurate. Bezos paper may not be accurate. Bezos himself seems a little concerned about the impact on his profits.
As much as we normally do for other illnesses and problems I hope.
Well, I'm referring to a medical expert. Surely there are medical experts who are also good communicators. There is no reason the press conference shouldn't be tightly run with a clear, concise message that the public understands, conveyed in a way that invites people to WANT to learn, not tune out or feel condescended to....or bored at the tedious length, shuffle of speakers, and off-topic comments.
I'm staying away from commenting on politicians, but not because I don't have some choice comments to make. My fingers are falling asleep for sitting on them.

I'll take this one...That is incorrect
15-20% are severe or critical. ~5% or down to 4% are critical. All stats everywhere have said this and not waivered since the 72,000 case study.
Some variations during beginning of outbreak, but this has been consistent.
Perhaps if you share the source where you are saying 15-20% are critical, we could take a look at as MOO it's misunderstanding/misprint. Again, could just be simple semantics again where some thought to print critical = all hospital care folks.. when that included severe?
ETA: Guess I'm late to the party as 3 others have said also this is incorrect. Good that we are all aware when doubtful info is posted so it doesn't get legs.
There is no shortage.....they can use the kits that were sent to them without doing the 3rd step. FL has 3 labs ready and waiting......post #422Florida woman hospitalized w/ Corona type symptoms but Fl. Dept. of Health won't test her for CoronaVirus. Tested for the regular flu was negative, and she'd been in close contact with Chinese citizens who were sick.
I wonder if this is due to the shortage of test kits?
Woman in Sanford fears she has coronavirus, claims Health Department won’t test her for virus
Has anyone heard of Dean Koontz the Eye of Darkness? A friend texted me saying excerpts describe the corona virus exactly, as a Chinese biological weapon that would come out in 2020!
The pictures of ppl in our local Costco and other stores that are on SM is insane. I am currently on my couch binge watching season 3 of the crown with wine! Kudos to you for going out...
Well, first we were told the virus would go away with warm weather. Then it was like the common cold. Next came political slants. Now we’re told healthy people SHOULD be able to recover. Honestly, I feel so safe (not).

Responding to post by Trino with original in black type RBM within:
Well, first we were told the virus would go away with warm weather.
Yes, we have heard that is a possibility by scientists from the beginning, and statesmen also... like many here that are optomists, there is a possibility of such. Wouldn't that be great to be like seasonal flu to do such!
Scientists are still not saying one way or another. Some indeed (including WHO, CDC, Dr. S and Dr. C) say they are hopeful indeed it will be like the "normal flu" and decrease in activity with warmer weather, but no evidence, yet. Just an hour ago, I had discussion with another poster about being positive or negative. Both are truths to that person or someone positioning as positive..cup half full!.
Then it was like the common cold.
Yes, it is like the common cold/flu as told over and over by health folks in many ways. Transmission avenues/ways to protect/symptoms similar etc. But most importantly what they are trying to say often when I hear them make the comparison..is how an individual can prevent.
I recall hearing it compared to the flu as to precautions, but I guess you may have read like common cold in that way. Same difference. Wash hands, cover mouth with protection, stay home and don't infect others... yes, as WHO/CDC/Dr. S and Dr. C have all said, it is like the common flu (cold) in this way. I don't hold against them that they are using this OPPORTUNITY to compare to existing viruses/disease to teach folks hygeinge..which MOO I think they are doing.
Next came political slants.
I'll walk from this one.
Now we’re told healthy people SHOULD be able to recover.
Yeah, the stats show that most will if infected. That's true.
Honestly, I feel so safe (not).
After spending time on here at WS and learning more, and prepping myself and knowing what to do in downturn..(isolate..most cases if isolate are from family members etc.. what was in the China WHO report)....I am actually felling better today that ever about this! Really, I am.
The California Department of Public Health announced eight testing labs that can handle coronavirus, in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Diego, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara and Tulare counties. Officials also announced the arrival of 1,200 testing kits from the federal government.
“The availability to test at California’s public health laboratories is a significant step forward in our ability to respond rapidly to this evolving situation,” Dr. Sonia Angell, director of the California Department of Public Health and state health officer, said in a statement. “As we face the likelihood of community transmission here in California, having this resource where we need it is essential to better inform public health response and protect our communities.”
