FDA advisory committee votes to NOT recommend approval of booster shots | Daily Mail Online

FDA panel recommends against approval for Pfizer booster shots to healthy people
under 65 BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE THEY ARE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE.

So, I say to my self- self, if there isn't enough evidence the boosters are safe and effective for people under the age of 65, WHY IS THE BOOSTER SAFE FOR PEOPLE OVER 65?
As a person over 65, that statement gives me pause--

I think this more nuanced explanation than the DM provided for the FDA not approving the Pfizer booster for younger ones might allay your concerns.

Why didn't FDA advisers want to recommend Covid-19 booster shots for everyone? - CNN

"We're being asked to approve this as a three-dose vaccine for people 16 years of age and older, without any clear evidence the third dose for a younger person, when compared to an elderly person, is of value," Offit said.

"If it's not of value, then the risks may outweigh the benefits. And we know the 16-29-year-old is at higher risk of myocarditis," he added.

For those who do not know, Palm Beach County is a VERY wealthy community.
Pretty much like the Beverly Hills area of California.
I guess Covid doesn't care about that.

Seems that the unvaccinated are having difficulties finding hospital beds also. Too many of them very sick.

"After paramedics transported him to the hospital, they discovered there wasn't an ICU bed available.
"We were checking other hospitals and there was not a single bed available in Palm Beach County. They had to transport him to a hospital an hour and a half away," she said."

Children and adolescents who are infected with Covid-19 rarely have symptoms that last for longer than 12 weeks, according to a review of international research.

The review, published in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, suggests that long Covid in children and adolescents is less common than previously feared.

In the reviewed studies, the five most common long Covid symptoms reported in children and adolescents were headache, fatigue, sleep disturbance, concentration difficulties and abdominal pain.

In the majority of studies, symptoms did not last for longer than 12 weeks.

The research brief also found, however, that children and adolescents with pre-existing health conditions – including obesity, chronic kidney disease and immune disorders – were 25 times more likely to have severe Covid.

Moderna's booster approval is going to be even more "fun" than Pfizer's. Moderna's induced immunity appears to wane less than Pfizer's induced immunity. So will Moderna's booster be approved even for those 65 and older?

Good question- I am glad I got Moderna though cause from everything I read immunity lasts longer than Pfizer- but how long, we don't know. Also the Moderna booster would be half the dose of the dose that we initially got.

Enterprising Alabama couple known for their anti-vax views both dead of COVID-19

This Alabama couple died from Covid- at one point they said something to the effect that this virus will soon be behind us--- I really hate to be mean, but it will be behind us, and because you failed to get vaccinated, you won't be here when that time comes. I probably won' t be contributing to the Go Fund Me their children set up. It is one thing to be vaccine hesitant but to come out and mock the vaccine and arrogantly diss something that is saving lives, and preach that anti-vaxx ideology to many others, well, I have no use for people like that.

DH and I had pretty much the same reaction to the announcement about a (Pfizer) booster. I'm 71, and DH will be 73 on October 1. We would be eligible for boosters around Thanksgiving having had our initial doses in early and late March. We won't be rushing out to get boosters until we know a lot more about how this determination was made and whether or not a booster is actually necessary and safe.

They are concerned about myocarditis, but majority of those cases occur in young males. So over 65 should be pretty safe. Israel is boosting everyone, and it's working really well.

Boosters are working really well in Israel. They are boosting everyone and it's reducing rates of infection and serious illness.

"In this study involving participants who were 60 years of age or older and had received two doses of the BNT162b2 vaccine at least 5 months earlier, we found that the rates of confirmed Covid-19 and severe illness were substantially lower among those who received a booster (third) dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine."

I already got the Moderna booster as a full dose (allowed for those in immuno compromised group). It actually makes me feel more protected.

Good that you have that added protection. It could be a little while before Moderna gets authorization for the booster for over 65.

Deaths and hospitalizations still very high.

According to the above, 55% of Americans are now vaccinated, so we are making progress with that slowly but surely. Dr. O did say a couple weeks back though that he’s not sure these vaccination numbers are accurate, since so many people have snuck a third dose, at pharmacies, etc. So when the pharmacies report their numbers, it could be some who’s vaccinations are actually third doses.
