Ga. resident tests positive for omicron variant
“ATLANTA - A Georgia resident currently in New Jersey has tested positive for the omicron variant of COVID-19, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The health department said the person recently traveled from South Africa and was in Georgia for two days before traveling on to New Jersey, where the testing was done.
The individual is fully vaccinated and is isolating in New Jersey, according to the agency. The department also said contact tracing is underway there and in Georgia to identify close contacts at risk of infection.”

The TWIV team seem to have a calmly cautious attitude about Omicron also. The latest episode touched briefly on Omicron (@ 1:04:49), but mostly it explored an interesting science outreach project in NYC, called the BioBus.

Pfizer New Zealand has signed an agreement with the New Zealand government to supply 60,000 treatment courses of its early stage COVID-19 oral antiviral product ritonavir.
If the drug gets regulatory approval from Medsafe (NZ) it would be the first oral antiviral of its kind.
“If approved , oral protease inhibitor antiviral therapies may help to reduce the severity or onset of illness in adults who contract, or have been exposed to, COVID-19.
“An oral treatment option may thus be an important potential tool to help address the ongoing global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Australia now has 25 Omicron cases in NSW, 2 in ACT and 1 in NT.
I think it is important to note that none of them have been hospitalised.
(I guess they could yet be hospitalised, but the signs seem to be good so far.)
There is a good chance that many of them are vaccinated (I haven't read, either way, but our vax rates are high and we are only letting vaxxed people in - over half of our Omicron cases are int'l arrivals).
But some of them are children under 12 years of age and they are not yet eligible for vaccination.

Great that you got the jab!! yep, sore arm is expected- mine was sore for about 4-5 days. whatever minor symptoms one gets from the vaccine is sure worth it!!!! It gives one some peace of mind to know you are protected! I know some people get symptoms that are more than minor, but it is still worth getting the vaccine.

I'm glad too!Can't remember how long my arm was sore for the 2nd shot - but it didn't stay long, as far as I can recall! And yes - peace of mind - I'm protected - but still go out with my mask & stay away from people....
I live my life like I am not vaccinated. Can't help it.

I mean I mask up and do all those things you are supposed to do- especially if you are not vaccinated. You should know me by my posts a little bit- I am very conscientious about taking precautions.
