These Florida, New York and New Jersey numbers are so stressful. Those are the three states in which I have family, plus another member in Texas where the Covid rules are also very lax.

@CharlestonGal I can imagine that you feel lousy, and all that sneezing is so annoying, and you have your heart condition to consider.

You can't feel guilty about taking a chair for MAB. You "earned" your seat and deserve available treatment to improve your health.

If it were last year, or now and you weren't vaccinated, you might have already been in the hospital. So "enjoy" that you're "only" the amount of sick that while requiring treatment, does not require hospital intervention.

Much, much better to be on a sickbed than a deathbed. I want to say IMO but I'm pretty sure we all share that opinion!

On a lighter note, @ilovewings, I feel personally invested in your hair salon saga. That's because I'm the one who found that vaccinated salon for you on Google, and if they do a bad job I'm going to feel very guilty.
So, for all the reasons, I hope they do a stunning transformation and you feel much more comfortable!!!!!

I dont know if you saw my post on the grocery thread ( by mistake )
I am a new woman- I walked in with disaster head and walked out
with a lovely style, cut and color--I really feel so much better about
myself with my new look-- hair for a woman is so important!!!!
My stylist asked me how I found that salon so I told her about the website
and how you searched for a salon where the stylists are vaccinated
and wearing masks-- she thought that was great!!!!!

Oh hurray!!!

No, I hadn't seen it. I don't frequent the grocery thread. I'm so happy for you and relieved that I didn't steer you to disaster.

It is important in the midst of all this pain to feel comfortable, and I'm very glad you are feeling better about your hair!!!!!

Stepdaughter tested positive on PCR after 2 negative rapids. She’s on 10 days of isolation along with 3 also-positive coworkers, not including the positives on a one-day “massive outbreak”. My elderly aunt and uncle, who live in the boonies, also tested positive yesterday after feeling ill.

Even if it had been a disaster it wouldnt be your fault!!!
I am so grateful to you for finding this salon cause as
far as I can tell, here in the Fort Myers area, all the salons do not care
a whit for safety precautions

Oh my goodness, so many at once, so sorry to hear about your family.

The next one is from my brother who is on a cruise. It's Santa at the beach at Mazatlan, giving out free covid tests for Christmas presents!

I just got my dear cousin’s annual missive describing her year in detail. :D She is almost 86, exactly 10 years older than I am. She has some heart issues, and has never mentioned whether she is vaccinated, but is very active and described four or five road trips up and down the east coast with stops along the way to visit people. And she takes a class weekly in person. Same thing last year. Maybe I’m envious that she’s so oblivious and has come through unscathed so far, while careful me spent six days in the hospital. I dunno. I’m glad she’s OK, of course. There is no way I could begin to keep up with her pace, but lunch with friends would be nice. Sigh. I just can’t bring myself to risk it, for their sake and mine. :(

NYC Scales Back Fully Vaccinated Times Square NYE, Adds Mask Rule as Omicron Surge Intensifies

I had really hoped this would be canceled altogether.

I appreciate that a much smaller crowd will be admitted, but that's still 15,000 people standing together within a block or two. Plus a million people that will crowd around outside the designated area and down the side streets.

Even though it's outdoors, people will be breathing on each other. I know it says masks required. While I do believe the NYPD will check for proof of vaccine, I'm 100% sure that people in the designated zone will remove their masks at some point, especially at midnight to kiss and shout "happy new year." And certainly the crowds out of sight of the police and TV cameras will.

Sigh. At midnight NYE de Blasio will no longer be the mayor, but our new mayor is not in office until then and who knows what decision he would have made, either.

They should have just cancelled it--- SMH

So happy for you!! I finally had my covid hair chopped off about 2 months ago and felt like a brand new woman.

I agree! The pressure to pretend we can control what happens during a world wide pandemic just stuns me.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope your stepdaughter, aunt and uncle get well soon. It's rather frightening to see this explode everywhere all at once. So many people are ill.

They will. They will have so many cases a week from now that no one will really be able to argue or beotch about it when they do cancel.

I've come to the conclusion that some people are simply indestructible. Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones comes to mind.

With omicron, you need a mask that means business
With another coronavirus variant racing across the U.S., once again health authorities are urging people to mask up indoors. Yes, you've heard it all before. But given how contagious omicron is, experts say, it's seriously time to upgrade to an N95 or similar high-filtration respirator when you're in public indoor spaces.
I got my Moderna booster last Tuesday. I only had a few KF94 mask's left so I upgraded to Honeywell N95's before they become scarce. They showed up a bit ago and look good. $20 for a box of 20 on Amazon.

Are the Respokare mask single use?

All my research has indicated N95s can be used for a LOT longer than recommended. We just rotate between using one one day and another the next. I definitely can't afford them as single use.

No other mask we've tried works as well for us personally. A good N95 should literally block out odor around you. The respokare will make it where you can't even smell incense standing in the midst of it. We have some other N95's that drastically reduce smelling odors. But they are not as effective as the respokare.

I'm not sure if it's face size or what. I have a small face and wear a size Med respokare and it's tight. The Large is too big for me. But so many other N95's I've tried are all just too big so cant provide a proper seal.

My husband can fit various masks though and still finds nothing works as well for him.

Taste and smell are gone. I Door Dashed soup, salad and sandwich from Panera and it all tasted like cardboard. Washed the kitchen and main bathroom down with bleach and didn't smell a thing.:(

Yikes! Although there were initial reports that with Omicron you don’t lose taste or smell, it will be interesting to see if that’s changed with further research. I have a feeling that anything is possible with any variant.
