I've just checked Worldometers from the link @CharlestonGal posted. US cases today are 410,000+ with 9 states still to report.

Sadly, there is still a ton of Delta flying around, so this is grim news indeed.

410,000 new cases, ten states still left to report.

United States COVID - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer
The state totals are interesting. Texas reported 13,454 new cases with a population of 28,995,881 while California reported 8,358 new cases with a population of 39,512, 223. We have very different covid guidelines in the two states. Vaccination rates are:
At least one dose: CA 82.5% Tx 66.6%
Fully Vaccinated: CA 26,064, 778% TX 56.8%

I know there are many factors at play here but IMO this shows what a difference vaccination rates and mask mandates can do.

Good. They shouldn't get any publicity. There is something wrong with them, and giving them the limelight won't help.
It's a farce. The biggest impact our local news reports is that the second half of the kids panto was delayed by 20 minutes. Dial-a-mob, how embarrassing for them sad bunch.

JMO ofc.

For some reason they are convinced that vaccines kill people and that the authorities are covering it up. Run off the mill conspiracy theorists.
But they tore up a testing site, not even a vaccination site. Or does testing kill people too, now? I'm glad I'm in quarantine and don't even have to go outside. The ideas some of these people have are deranged and frightening, imo.

FL is interesting, too. 10 million people less than CA yet has 6x the number of new cases. Also an abysmal vax rate of 63%.

What the ever loving....what??? What is the matter with these people???

They’ve got Corbynitis (Piers variant)

Just searched for the story on our local news. It said they protested during the interval of Jack and the Beanstalk panto :D! And the second half was delayed by 20 minutes :D! One person at another location threw a traffic cone, woo hoo. More ham acting than the panto, how funny.

Brilliant :D I think most of the UK just did a collective eye roll upon seeing that headline!

Oh yes they did!!

Daft as this incident is, last week he was arrested for inciting his followers to burn down MPs offices. Considering how vehement some of his followers are, this was a dangerous thing for him to say about politicians, particularly as one actually got murdered a few weeks ago:

"We've got to hammer to death those scum, those scum, who have decided to go ahead with introducing new fascism. We've got to get a list of them, we can get lists of them on websites, and if your MP's one of them, go to their offices, and well, I would recommend burning them down. But I can't say that on air, I hope we're not on air."

Seriously, it is going to combust. I feel like if you leave the house, you're going to get it. Mask or no mask, it's just so contagious.

Nurse Daughter states our Hospital is filling up. Two Covid Patients now on her floor (Surgery) One unvaccinated person refuses any and all treatment. It infuriates me that said person is using up a bed. IMO take your azz home there is nothing more they can do. Somebody needs that bed

is there a rationale for going to a hospital and refusing treatment?

That's a great question. Daughter likely knows but felt she said enough out of frustration. The only thing I can come up with is someone he lives with dropped him off refusing to care for the person? They keep trying with him and wont even entertain the high flow oxygen.

CDC: 5 days is okay folks!
Translation: herd immunity

JMO

won't some people have obvious symptoms for more than 5 days? runny nose, coughing ?..or do the 5 days start when you have no symptoms? (confused)

I fear this new policy will come back to bite us. I would love to be wrong.

In some countries more worrying than the current (sometimes low) number of cases is the number of new (daily) deaths per million population. Top 20 spots on this list are occupied mostly by European coutries, predominantly from Eastern Europe, such as Bulgaria and Poland with 23.6 and 21 new deaths pmp. US is 21st with 4,8 deaths pmp. Source: Calculated from Worldometer data.

Only 11% of the AZ population is over 65. Maine is 14%.

Arizona Demographic Statistics

ETA: And the state with the lowest death rate - Vermont - has 13% over the age of 65. Deaths per million in Vermont is only 632 - compared to Arizona at 3,295 per million. That is an astonishing difference. And age alone does not explain it.

you should look at population centers and multi generational families in apts- VT is very spread out- even Burlington is not a big metro area. Wonder if AZ cases/deaths are all around Phoenix or another city.

I’ve noticed this too. Eastern Europe, already clobbered by earlier waves, is in the grip of it yet again. It’s just going round and round in circles across the continent. Even more worrying are the case and death increases coming out of Africa. Very concerning indeed.

They need to kick her out of there---why is the person even there?
