Little kerfuffle going on here today. Djokovic is being detained at the airport by our border force who are questioning his vaccine 'exemption' on his visa. It sounds as if 'someone' might have exempted him because he won't reveal his vaccine status, not for any real reason.

He arrived yesterday to prepare for the Australian Open. Our PM says he may be turned around and sent back to Serbia.

His father is in Serbia spitting chips ..... "threatened to call a gathering on the streets if his son wasn't let into Australia imminently."
"Novak is currently in a room which no one can enter," Srdan Djokovic said.
"In front of the room are two policemen.
"I have no idea what's going on, they're holding my son captive for five hours.
"This is a fight for the ... world, not just a fight for Novak, but a fight for the whole world.
"If they don't let him go in half an hour, we will gather on the street, this is a fight for everyone."

Just ugly and selfish.

He isn't going to win any friends over this stance around the world.

If Dan Andrews (victorian premier) gets him in I will be mad!!

I hope he gets sent home. As Scomo (and everyone) says .... there shouldn't be one rule for Djokovic and one for everyone else.

He does not pass the standard of proof required by our border force.

Novak Djokovic stuck in Melbourne airport amid medical exemption confusion
...
Djokovic has nine Australian Open titles, and he won the last three. With another victory in Australia, he could break a three-way tie with tennis greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam singles titles with a record 21st win.
.,.......
Sweet, he won't be able to this year.
(I support Australia)
oh yeah thats why he is desperate to get in.

No Fed or Nadal this year to even contend with.

Easy.... really really easy novak.....
Go and get vaccinated SMH!!!!

MOO

Australia did the right thing!

I guess there was always going to be someone who would challenge our entry requirements.
Would love to see the document he used for his 'exemption'.

He 'says' he is going to take it to court (the judicial kind, not the tennis kind) in our state of Victoria - where the Australian Open is held, and where he is currently awaiting a decision.
I imagine his only options might be to quarantine at his own expense for 14 days (the Australian Open starts in 11 days). Or go home.

Here in the PNW and I've read also other places are in short supply of at-home antigen Covid tests. We can't buy them for love nor money. I had not been successful in finding any until I read a short article on NYT that stated that the Roman Company, yes the one that advertises on TV prescription "man pills", was getting into the retail online test business.

I was able to order several, as we will be traveling soon to see an elderly family member whom we haven't seen since January 2019, and we want to be aware of our viral "status" as to make best choices for everyone. They were higher in price, $30.00, than what @BetteDavisEyes mentioned up thread, but included free shipping, and we were a little desperate.

I hope the tests are from a reputable brand….

My personal opinion is that the govts are stocking up on the RATs. Which is creating a shelf shortage, until the manufacturers can ramp up enough to meet demand. (We can't find them here either.)

Eg:
The UK govt gives them out to much of its population, our govt is about to start giving them out to all people who receive govt assistance/benefits.
Our hospitals are also receiving them, to take the strain off the PCR testing system. Probably being stockpiled by other govts too. imo

Can't Find an At-Home COVID-19 Test? These 6 FDA-Authorized Options Are Still in Stock Online

It's the ON/Go brand listed in this People mag article. One of seven FDA authorized tests sold to consumers. The FDA authorization letter is linked to in the article.
That's awesome. Keep your receipts. I watched the Whitehouse briefing yesterday and Jen said a certain number of at home tests will be reimbursed by private health insurance. She didn't have details yet about how to file a claim for reimbursement, or how many tests would be covered, but I'd hang on to the documentation. jmo

Walmart, Kroger raise at-home Covid test prices after White House agreement expires (nbcnews.com)

The companies agreed in September to sell the test kits "at cost" for three months.

Walmart and Kroger raised the price of Abbott's at-home Covid-19 test kit after an agreement with the White House to sell the tests at a reduced price expired, the companies said Tuesday.

The BinaxNOW kit, one of the first at-home tests to be authorized by the federal government, was listed on Walmart's website Tuesday for $19.88, up from $14 last month. Kroger listed the tests for $23.99.

President Joe Biden announced the agreement with Walmart, Amazon and Kroger in September, saying it was part of his administration’s plan to ramp up testing and “better detect and control” the coronavirus variant that then posed the greatest danger — delta...

I checked Walmart.com and they are out of stock on the test kits. Then I checked CVS.com and they are out of stock on the BinaxNOW, Ellume and QuickVue tests, but they show availability on the FlowFlex COVID-19 Antigen Home Test kits for $9.99 each. I bought two of these kits a few weeks ago to have on hand if needed. I might pick up a few more.

That would be awesome to get reimbursed. Thank you for the info, I'll keep my receipt handy.
