Sending virtual hugs to you and your daughter my friend.

I'm so sorry @155etta How is he feeling? I hope you are both vaccinated and it's a mild run of the illness. Keep us posted!
We are both vaccinated and boosted. As well as our 21 year old daughter that lives with us. He feels like he has a cold. Started with a scratchy throat Thursday night. Then cough, headache, body aches, low grade fever, and really tired but not sleeping well. Decided to do a home test today because he had all the classic symptoms.

Yes, I saw the DM article on that. Justice Sotomayor numbers were greatly inflated.

CDC Director Wallensky corrects Justice Sotomayor's obscenely false claim | Daily Mail Online

"'We have over 100,000 children, which we've never had before, in serious condition, and many on ventilators,' Sotomayor said on Friday.

Walensky contradicted Sotomayor's claim during a segment of Fox News Sunday.

'The number is not 100,000. It's roughly 3500 in hospitals now?' asked host Bret Baier.

'Yes. In fact, what I will say is, while pediatric hospitalizations are rising, they're still about 15 fold less than hospitalizations of our older age or age demographic,' Walinsky answered.

Sotomayor's egregious miscalculation - which can be easily debunked with data reported by the CDC - follows her overly-cautious response to the pandemic, with her choosing to join Friday's hearing virtually."

she may have made an egregious miscalculation, but how is she being overly
cautious by participating in the hearing virtually, in light of a raging Omicron
virus raging through the United States?

As a Supreme Court justice hearing this importance case, you would think she would be better informed. However, on the issue of her choosing to appear virtually, I think that is understandable since she is diabetic and therefore probably extra cautious, even though omicron is less pathogenic for healthy people,

Hopefully the fact that you are all vaccinated will mean a shorter run of the illness. Wishing you and your family well!!

A Texas team comes up with a COVID vaccine that could be a global game changer — NPR

Hopefully this will actually be a game-changer. This is a doctor whom I admire.

Magnanimously, I would like of course to see poorer countries have more access to a vaccine. Selfishly, it’s better for those of us in countries that do have sufficient vaccine, because so many of the variants arise from countries that don’t have such abundant access.

It makes me even more furious that in a country like the U.S., so many who can get vaccinated shun it instead.

Hopefully big pharma doesn't find a way to shut them down since their vaccine is inexpensive. JMO

Because before herd immunity is reached many will die.

Exactly. And unfortunately, many of those who die have done everything they could to remain healthy, but were infected by someone who can’t be bothered. Not suggesting anyone “deserves” to be “culled,” but those who have tried to take care for the sake of themselves and society as a whole certainly don’t deserve to be among those culled. :( But the virus isn’t concerned about what’s fair.

My husband just tested positive with an FDA approved at home test. Ugh. We've been so careful.
@155etta Stay in touch here, please? Best wishes to your husband and you.

This is great news and I hope it comes to fruition soon! It’s disgraceful how much some vaccine companies have been charging per dose, even in exports to third world countries.

I hear ya, it is a long drive. But it is actually, according to Waze, only a 7 hr30 minute drive. It takes me 9 because I take some long breaks.

It isn't even the plane trip that worries me---it is only a 50 minute flight. But the airport is such a petrie dish. When going through security you stand in very long lines, in close quarters, for quite awhile. There is no way to really social distance as you take off your shoes, put your stuff in the bins, walk thru the computer screenings, etc, etc....I have k95s for traveling and they probably work well, but it still seems risky to spend hours inside LAX...

If I go to Burbank airport, it is smaller, but no direct flights to Reno. So changing planes doubles the number of airports. lol

With the contagiousness of this variant, I don't feel comfortable going through that long, crowded process. I feel I'd be safer in my vehicle, even if it does take me ALLLL day. lol

I usually leave about 6 am, and arrive about 3 or 4 pm. But it is a scenic drive and I haven't been out of the house much lately. My husband usually goes with me which makes it a million times easier. But he took a lucrative consulting job and can't get away right now.
Good reasoning through your options. If you must travel, I believe you made the wiser choice. When will the trip begin?

Speaking of those who cant be bothered--------watching NFL football games
on TV--- stadiums full of screaming fans, close together--a sight that makes me sick--
In Miami where Omicron is raging that stadium is full-- these people do not
care a whit for anyone or anything but having fun and party time--their
behavior will result in more patients overwhelming hospitals and some deaths, and
they dont even think about that-- it is sickening

“News for my friends living in Portsmouth, NH. The new mask ordinance contains no penalties, which makes it a more of a suggestion than a mandate. Use your best judgement.”

Sigh.

I have a pair of season tickets to an NFL team. Didn’t attend a single game in 2020, and only went to a preseason game this year.

When I watch the games on tv I simply can’t believe that none of the fans are wearing masks.

I know-- it is astounding to see stadiums full of people living
like there is no pandemic

Either this coming week or next week. Kind of depends upon weather reports and my husband's work. It turns out he MIGHT be able to come with me now. And if I postpone a bit that could work out. And it would be so much better if he could. :)
