I think there should be legal remedies for cases like this.

Absolutely-- that person with knowledge that she was infectious, knowingly
and with forethought, exposed an elderly immunocompromised human being
to a potentially fatal disease, and that person did in fact die from covid. If it
were up to me that person would be charged with manslaughter and thrown
in jail.

I live very close to Burbank airport so I could fly from there---but my kids are really uncomfortable with me flying right now.

We have had the biggest SURGE of new cases since the entire pandemic has begun. And our family suddenly knows about 2 dozen friends/neighbors who have Covid right now.....Usually we knew 1 or 2 people who had it.

Now it seems to have exploded and it is unnerving....
I am with your kids on being uncomfortable with you flying, Katydid.

I have a vague memory of when AIDS was wide spread. Wasn't there a law that if a person was HIV positive and did not acknowledge that fact to a potential sexual partner, they could be changed in criminal courts? Same situation here, different virus.

Yes!! so why would that not apply in this situation?

The issue of "Long Covid", dealing with a myriad of long term physical, mental, and inevitable emotional issues is going to be an uphill battle for patients. I have already heard rumblings and under currents of "malingering".

The problem, INMO, is that some people get Covid, Senator Rand Paul is an excellent example, he had a light case, no issues. He now treats Covid as a light case of flu. His impatience with anyone who even mentions Covid is obvious. And, this man is still a licensed physician.

My personal opinion is that there have always been "variants" of this disease, some people got a lighter variant, like Senator Rand Paul, others, like Nick Cordero, got a much more potent version. Of course, Mr. Cordero died, after being on a ventilator for months.

Patients dealing with "long term Covid" effects are going to have a lot of problems with so many people. Especially if they need to apply for job accommodations, disability benefits.
I struggle with the lack of understanding from my work and even people close to me. I feel they want to say, oh just shake it off come on. At the moment I am exhausted every day and this is almost two years. I'm trying to get hold of my consultant at the long covid clinic for more help. My own gp cannot help, because I'm under the specialist. I know it could all be so much worse and I dont often feel sorry for myself, but I am today :(.

Snow leopard dies after contracting Covid-19 at Illinois zoo - CNN
More at link
A snow leopard has died after contracting Covid-19 at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois.

Rilu, an 11-year-old snow leopard, struggled with Covid-19 induced pneumonia before death, according to a post on the Miller Park Zoo verified Instagram account.
"Rilu arrived at the Miller Park Zoo in 2011 from the Oklahoma City Zoo," the post said. "During his time here, he produced seven living offspring that are now part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP)."
"He made the Miller Park Zoo one of the leading institutions in the world in producing Snow Leopard cubs."
"Rilu's personality and beauty will be missed by guests and staff, but he will not be forgotten."
Snow leopards are a vulnerable species, according to the World Wildlife Fund. With an estimated population of 4,000 to 6,500, the main threats to their survival are hunting, habitat loss and the climate crisis.

CDC updates are straining already-pressed public health departments (nbcnews.com)

With an already-weary public tuning out rules and with omicron surging, some public health professionals are struggling to explain recent changes in federal guidance.

Dr. Michael Kilkenny did not expect the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention news release he received on Dec. 27.

Four days earlier, the CDC had cut the isolation time for health care workers with Covid to seven days, if they were asymptomatic and had a negative test. The new announcement said that people with Covid could isolate for just five days after symptoms developed, instead of 10.

“When we got a press release on the 27th that seemed to contradict guidance we got on the 23rd — that was quite a bombshell for us,” said Kilkenny, chief executive officer and health officer of the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, which serves Huntington, West Virginia, and the surrounding county.

Around the country, schools and health organizations scrambled to interpret the news release and adjust their policies — only to change course again when the CDC filled out details and its rationale in full guidance published about a week later...

<respectfully snipped>

Amber Glenn had skated poorly in the short program and withdrew from the free skate due to a positive Covid test yesterday. The favored pair skaters withdrew from competition due to one of them having Covid, also. With the way omicron is spreading, alternates are going to be very important when our team heads to Bejing for the Winter Games next month. Best wishes for the health and safety of our Olympic athletes.

One of the things that makes this virus so evil is that it affects people so differenly--
so many people who contracted Covid had it so mild they think it is nothing-- they
extrapo!ate from themselves to everybody and make light of it---we know how devaststing it can be to the elderly and then there are those people who died
and they were young and healthy. We know people with multiple comorbidities
are also particularly vulnerable to Covid---then we know so many people
develop long covid and experts are trying to understand that as well--why
do some people get it and others dont??? Those characteristics of this virus
make it particularly confounding and evil

I am sorry you are dealing with this. You are probably paving the uphill battle for people who will inevitably be coming after you.

Not unlike so many who had diagnosis of "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome", a specific set of symptoms, that so many medical professionals dismissed.

I believe that I had CFS in the early 90's, after a terrible bout of flu. I was just exhausted all of the time. And just powered through it.

Hope you get more understanding.

Thanks Mickey. Essentially my symptoms are v much CFS but I'm not able to power through it unfortunately. If I do that, I get payback the next day.

I know. Look up "Spoon Theory" for dealing with long term illnesses. It is helpful, not only for you, but how to explain your life to others.

What Is the Spoon Theory?

I feel for you and know that you do the best you can every day--hopefully they will find out more about the devastaing post covid syndrome( which is a description I prefer to long hauler, which to me is not really descriptive of what a person
experiences)---take care
