I hope that the research into Long Covid can provide some breakthroughs that help both LC patients, and those who suffer from ME/CFS. It would be one good thing to come out of this horrible pandemic, IMO.

I suspect that a subset of Long Covid patients have an illness that is similar to ME/CFS. I would not be surprised to learn that a genetic predisposition exists, then the virus triggers some sort of autoimmune response, but JMO.

All the best to those affected, both conditions are awful

Well, early data does seem to indicate that a subset of vaccinated children will develop Multisystem Inflammatory disease symptoms.

Also, with some of thee vaccines, the pericardium can become inflamed. I understand vaccine hesitancy for parents who are very cautious. Now is the time to go ahead and do it, since Omicron definitely will get to nearly everyone - soon. And it does make kids sick.

The children who are very sick or dying are still ones who had various co-morbidities. I'm hearing people with very healthy children (who are themselves vaccinated) get very worried about their under 10 year olds - and I get it. I wish the messaging was stronger from the CDC.

Imo at this point the CDC should just stfu They’re not helping.

I thought she was undergoing media training, her messages are confusing and muddled.
I'd prefer she hire a spokesperson who is extremely clear and consistent in their messaging.
Every message is different and confusing to the average person.

I live very close to Burbank airport so I could fly from there---but my kids are really uncomfortable with me flying right now.

We have had the biggest SURGE of new cases since the entire pandemic has begun. And our family suddenly knows about 2 dozen friends/neighbors who have Covid right now. ....Usually we knew 1 or 2 people who had it.

Now it seems to have exploded and it is unnerving....

Hey @katydid23 , Many medical professionals believe the current SURGE is due to Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year holidays gatherings. There is belief the positive numbers will reduce in a couple weeks. Could you postpone your trip until end of January? Agree driving healthier than flying.

US is not South Africa. US has a lot of overweight people with pre-existing conditions. So-called mild Omicron is dramatically increasing hospitalizations in the US, which didn't happen in South Africa.
So CDC director shouldn't be assuming Omicron in the US is going to do the same thing it did in South Africa.

There is no doubt gatherings are contributing to the surge. Other reasons behind the surge is Omicron is escaping both natural immunity and vaccine induced immunity and is highly infectious. Who knows how quickly the numbers are going to go down.

I think comfort is important to people actually keeping the mask on. So if ear loops make it more comfortable for people, it's a good thing.

Definitely. BUT if a company is advertising N95's with ear loops and it's not possible they are N95's would you trust them at all for buying masks? I wouldn't personally. How do you know what else is fraudulent about the masks?

We have KN95's with ear loops for most of my kids and teens. But they were accurately advertised. I wasn't saying no one should use KN95's with ear loops. But just letting people know if a company is advertising N95's with ear loops they must be lying and can not be purchasing that from them.
