Fasten up your seatbelts. Here comes the next wave.
"An analysis by the UK Health Security Agency shows that the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron is about 80% more contagious than BA.1, the virus that caused the last wave of infections in the US over the winter. Cases and hospitalizations are rising in the UK and several other European countries where BA.2 has become the dominant strain."

This key indicator may determine how bad a BA.2 wave could be in the US - CNN

I want to scream!!!!

From that CNN article - "98% of adults in the UK had tested positive for antibodies to Covid-19, according to the Office of National Statistics. In the US, the CDC estimates that 43% of Americans have antibodies from a past infection to fight off Covid-19." - BBM

WOW, that is quite a difference.

Those numbers jumped out at me, too, but I am wondering if they are comparing apples to oranges.

The article says that 98% of adults in the UK tested positive for antibodies to covid-19, so I assume this is both from past infections and/or vaccines.

But then the article goes on to say that the CDC estimates that 43% of Americans have antibodies from a past infection. That doesn't include antibodies from the vaccine.

So are the numbers comparable?

@Sundog I don't think that the numbers are comparable, for the reasons you raised.

Our Mask mandate here in Ontario ends next Tuesday. Premier Ford said if need be he will put it back in place. I have no intention of taking mine off anyhoo.

Yes, it's pretty difficult for organizations to mandate the use of masks when the province has dropped all mandates. So all the anti masking, anti vaccine, freedom losers will be back at church, hockey games, theatres, weddings, etc. What could possibly go wrong?

I got this far without catching it and plan to keep it that way as best I can.

I know! We should all step outside and scream simultaneously! Except it's pouring rain here. And what would the neighbors think?

I'm with you! From the beginning I've said, I really, really don't want to get this virus.

I'm already past 5 months since my booster. I hope I can get a 4th shot soon.

Probably that I’ve lost my temper again.

They’d be screaming with you!
It’s weird here. people are kind of acting as if it’s gone but it obviously hasn’t. Mr HKP is the only person still wearing a mask on his commuter trains.

Good point, no they aren't comparable are they? A poorly written article IMO.

ETA: and can they even distinguish antibodies from an infection vs those from a vaccine?

Yes, very few masks to be seen now. Saw the article below earlier, and there have definitely been quite a few people we know (including ourselves) who have been careful but have got the virus for the first time recently.

Why Are So Many People Only Now Getting Covid For The First Time?

Yes, the way they've worded the numbers is interesting. I would assume (JMOO) the numbers almost have to be comparable, given the number of Americans who are vaccinated.
