That does seem strange: I have not heard the flu being mentioned at all as going around in any state! I was under the impression that there was hardly any flu again this year.
I live in MD and I know many people in the last few weeks to have the flu. In fact, my older son was sick with a fever, cough etc right before we left for Hawaii (the week prior). Took him to urgent care and they didn’t even test him for Covid. They tested him for flu, strep and mono (all going around rampant apparently). He was negative for all 3. Turns out he had a chest infection from a previous cold that just never resolved. A lot of stuff going around.

So, I like the "spokesperson" for the White House, discussing the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris tested "Positive" for Covid-19.

To a press room full of people. Not one mask in view. Just viewed on NBC news.

No, COVID isn’t over - The Boston Globe

“Yet what we keep hearing is that we’re getting back to normal. And this is what “normal” looks like — at least 1,000 people a day perishing from COVID; American vaccine interest that has fallen off a cliff; and persistent vaccine inequality and lack of access around the world, especially in Africa, which prolong the pandemic and leave everyone vulnerable.”

@KirstenAllen46

Today, after consultation with her physicians, the Vice President was prescribed and has taken Paxlovid.

Mr Pirate has been a little under the weather the last two days. Tired and feeling 'off'. No symptoms specifically. He takes daily Advil for arthritis and we figured it was his arthritis flaring up. Lo and Behold..he accidentally missed his late afternoon dose and really felt bad. I touched his arm and he was HOT. Temp of 102.5. We immediately did a Covid test that was negative. We figure the Advil was masking the fever. As near as we can tell, it came on Friday night. That is when he started feeling off, fatigued and shaky.
I feel so bad for him. For three days he said how bad he felt but he just powered through it. Yesterday he and three buddies changed the brakes on he car and hung out. He had one beer and that is it. We all went to eat and he didn't eat a bite. Still not even thinking this was related to any illness because at that time he was fever free and had no other symptoms beyond feeling tired, not hungry and off. He has stable CLL ( Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) that is not requiring treatment right now and we were most worried it was related to that. Now it seems he caught something.
Would he have a negative Covid test and no other symptoms of Covid yet still have it?? I know his doctor is a better source of info but since we are talking Covid here, is fever only Covid a thing??? He has had 4 Pfizer vaccines, BTW.

Many people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia have no symptoms at first. Signs and symptoms might develop as the cancer progresses. They might include:

  • Enlarged, but painless, lymph nodes
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Pain in the upper left portion of the abdomen, which may be caused by an enlarged spleen
  • Night sweats
  • Weight loss
  • Frequent infections

I had a friend with a different more aggressive leukemia and she was always monitoring her temperature and getting meds for infections

Sounds like a good idea. It is great that there is treatment now in the beginning stage of the virus.

Good news!!!

Fauci: US is 'certainly' out of the 'pandemic phase'

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been the mouthpiece for the government’s coronavirus response across two presidential administrations, said during an interview on Tuesday that the U.S. was "certainly" out of the pandemic stage, though he cautioned that the larger, global pandemic was still ongoing.

"We are certainly right now in this country out of the pandemic phase," Dr. Fauci said during an interview with PBS NewsHour Judy Woodruff, according to a transcript of the interview.

His CLL diagnosis is quite recent. He is reaching out to his PCP today. Hopefully it is all related to a virus of some sort and not disease progression. When we saw the hematologist she did not really mention COVID specifically just was pleased he had his vaccines. We should know the PCR result today. Thank you!

Update on Mr Pirate. COVID test was negative as was the flu test. He is feeling much better. Since he does have CLL he is following up with his doctor to make sure there are not any other tests that need to be run. Thank you all for your thoughts and concern.

If that is the case, it is very disappointing!

The article said that the return of symptoms in some people who take Paxlovid is rare. Our friend who took 5 days of Paxlovid is fine.
