I’m much better myself, thank you. Mr HKP is day three of steroids today. Woke up (just gone 8am here) needing his blue inhaler. We’re hoping the steroids start helping today, he’s not getting worse but just not noticeably better yet.

I hope that today (or this evening) brings more relief and wellness for Mr HKP. Hope everybody else out there is getting well. A few of my friends (who I have not been in physical contact with) have come down with it last few days as well. This variant is spreading like wild fire. One of my friends had Covid just two months ago and is suffering again. Y’all stay safe.

We had our original boosters last November, so our protection is likely waning. We don't want to get caught off-guard if/when the latest variants surge in early fall.

I got mine last November too- by now, 8 months later, I imagine our protection has waned quite a bit. I am still not sure how long the booster is most effective- I have heard weeks to about 4 months, and then it begins to lose its effectiveness

Elizabeth Simins had all the typical symptoms of Covid after testing positive for the virus June 25.

For about a week, Simins, 34, of Portland, Oregon, felt dizzy, fluish and out of breath. She had palpitations if she exerted herself. Those symptoms, thankfully, were temporary. But just when she thought she was in the clear, she lit a scented candle and noticed something else — she couldn’t smell it.

For five days, everything smelled the same to her, a woodsy autumnal smell uncharacteristic of July in Oregon. Even now, her sense of smell is not as keen as it was before she got sick...

I followed in my car and as soon as I entered the ER (with K95) I knew I was in trouble. It was packed with very sick people. After sitting with my neighbor for 5 hours, nursed told me he had tested positive for COVID. So Monday I tested positive. I have never had a headache like this. I have RA so doctor told me to go to ER for iv monoclonal iv. I had called ER asking about best time to go and they indicated 5-7 a.m. Got there are 4. The monoclonal iv dropped my bp like crazy, bottom number was 30. They finally got it back up to 45 but man I'm like a limp cloth. Anyway thanks for letting me share my COVID tale. Best wishes for those feeling ill, I'd say try to stay well for the rest of you but this variant is pretty cunning. Sigh

So sorry to hear Covid found you and about your experience with MAB- I hope you recover soon-- it seems so many people who avoided Covid for two years, are no getting infected. Covid is live a never-ending nightmare.

Me and my husband have (finally) decided to get the vaccine. He had it severely and is a Long Hauler experiencing lingering symptoms. I however only had a very mild case but am now experiencing some of the after effects.

With all the chatter about the B5 strain we are concerned which is why we have decided to get the vaccination.

My question is what vaccine in your opinion is the best one (and why)?

Sorry to hear this. That sounds so scary! I hope you are resting comfortably and your BP is up. I hope will be in the mend soon! Rest up and take it easy.

I was, in the very beginning, vaccine hesitant. It took me a bit to finally receive it. Both my doctor and the pharmacist both recommended the Moderna for me. They both insisted it was better at building immunity, and I took their word for it. I only had a minor reaction which was arm pit swelling, sore arm, and I was a bit tired and slight fever after 48 hours that only lasted about 6 hours (1st dose). My second dose - wasn’t so bad either. I’m sure others will chime in as I feel this group has done more research than I have. I wish you and your hubby good health,

I've had Moderna for the 1st two vaccines because pharmacies only had the capability of offering Moderna because of the refrigeration challenges. When it came time for the boosters, I spoke to the regional medical director in our state regarding her vaccine recommendation. She thought that Moderna was showing promising data for longer protection but either was better than none. I chose Moderna.

The best vaccine is the one that is available to you! In our area it was Pfizer, altho I would have preferred Moderna for my two boosters. But we feel that getting the vax is more important than shopping around for a particular brand (unless both are readily available).

May I ask, had you had Covid at that point before you got your vax?

My dh and I had covid 2 weeks before we would be eligible for the first dose of the vaccine back in late Jan 2021. Because we had the monoclonal antibody infusion, we had to wait 90 days to get our vaccines. I’ve had the same reaction for all four shots…headache, feverish and tired. I can count on spending the next day in bed…but it’s nothing compared to spending 6 days in the hospital with covid! In Feb of 2022 I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. When I asked my cardiologist if it could be covid-related, he said “It’s hard to know.” I doubt it changes the treatment, so I guess my curiosity will remain unsatisfied.

Good article. Confirms what most of us already knew, but a good reminder of how to make the risk calculations. Also, good admonition to have a Covid-19 action plan.
