Thank you! It has been painful. I finally tested negative for Covid on Saturday, but I’m still feeling a bit out of sorts. Fatigue, ear pain and my sinuses will not clear. Dizziness and I’m so tired. I feel like my head is underwater. I have one more day left on my steroid pack and a few more days on antibiotics. Two days ago I realized I have lost my sense of smell. I smell nothing. Strangest things ever, but I did read that loss of taste and smell are making a comeback with the BA.5 variant. Stay well!
I'm sorry you are still feeling poorly. My daughter is in a similar situation. She had Covid a month ago (maybe a bit longer). She's still suffering some sinus issues and also was given antibiotics. I talked with her today and she still has severe congestion. She doesn't have ear pain thankfully. It really stinks but I'm thankful for the vaccines. It could have been so much worse without them.

I can't imagine where we would be as a country without vaccines- millions dead and millions more clogging up hospital beds all over the country.

So there’s a 3rd booster?
At this point in time, the vaccines that are presently available, have a short - shelf life. From what I have gleaned, when you get a booster, you are fully protected for maybe four- six months and then protection wanes and you will need another booster. Pfizer and Moderna are in the process of developing boosters that should target the variants and subvariants that the present vaccines do not cover. i have read that that booster should be available sometime in the fall. So if someone has had a 2nd booster, protection will wane and a third booster will be necessary.

Here is an article regarding the need for a third booster.

Glad you both got your booster- I think it will give you confidence as the B5 subvariant spreads. I read that during the first week after the shot we do get some protection: I am thinking like 50% protection, but it takes 2 weeks to get full protection. I hope you both have minimal, if any side effects. My arm was sore for two days and then poof, the soreness just disappeared...
My arm is a little sore at the injection site, but I am fine otherwise. DH was up in the wee hours taking his temperature. He had a low grade fever, took Tylenol, and had some orange juice. His fever is down but he feels weak. We have no plans for the day and will relax, watch TV, read, and have California BLTs for dinner. By tomorrow, we should both be back to normal. Happy that we went ahead and got our second boosters :)

Glad you had no side effects other than a sore arm- hope DH feels better by tomorrow: I didn't feel great the day after i got the shot- just blah and tired- the next day I was back to normal. It is a good feeling to know we have at least some protection with this 2nd booster! Take care!

Article about the new Novavax vaccine:
Novavax's COVID-19 Vaccine: Your Questions Answered

The Novavax vaccine is the fourth vaccine authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. for the prevention of COVID-19 and another tool in an expanding armamentarium. It’s also unique among the available coronavirus vaccines in this country in that it uses a traditional virus-blocking technology (one that’s been used against other diseases).

The vaccine was found to be 90% effective against mild, moderate, and severe disease in the company’s Phase 3 trial involving 30,000 participants ages 18 and older, according to an FDA summary. It’s important to note, however, that the study was conducted prior to the circulation of Delta and Omicron variants, so its efficacy against Omicron and its subvariants is unknown....
...

How is Novavax different than the other COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S.?

Though COVID vaccines may utilize different delivery mechanisms, the end result is the same: cells in the body recognize that a spike protein (the spikes you see sticking out of the coronavirus in pictures) doesn’t belong, and the immune system reacts by activating immune cells and producing antibodies to attack the real virus if you get exposed.

But, unlike the other vaccines, Novavax directly injects a version of the spike protein, along with another ingredient that also stimulates the immune system, into the body, leading to the production of antibodies and T-cells. (It injects a version of the spike protein that has been formulated in a laboratory as a nanoparticulate that does not have genetic material inside and cannot cause disease.)
...

Is Novavax effective against Omicron and its subvariants?

The Novavax clinical trial was conducted before the Omicron and Delta variants were circulating, so data doesn’t show how well the vaccine works against BA.5, a subvariant of Omicron that is now the predominant variant in the U.S.

Scientists are working to learn more, and this past May, the company started a Phase 3 clinical trial to test a booster that targets the Omicron variant. It plans to speed up its research on shots tailored for BA.5 and BA.4, another circulating variant.

Wishing him well!

Yes -- wishing him well- I think it was inevitable with him traveling all over the world
especially with the increasing spread of BA.5

A good article --It is of course about President Biden contracting the virus, but it clearly describes how lots of people continue to be hospitalized and die every day from this virus.
Frankly, I see no end to it.

I agree-there is no end to this :(
Every time I turn around, there’s another subvariant and I just get more anxious about everything again.

Hospitalizations are decreasing where I live, but cases are slowly rising as are deaths. It’s just a never ending cycle, it seems.

DH is finally back to normal after our second boosters and will go swimming this afternoon. He swims every other day but did not feel up to it yesterday. He had gone to the pool on Tuesday morning before we had our boosters. I didn't sleep well on Wednesday night due to my arm and neck hurting. Yesterday, I felt weak and a little dizzy, so I sipped Pedialye which seemed to help. Took my temperature but did not have a fever. Slept better last night, and my arm/neck are no longer sore. Upon learning that the President has Covid, we are glad that we got our second boosters.

Honestly I can see us dealing with subvariant B95.0- the constant subvariants- how will it stop mutating? As I said, I cannot see an end to it and it is really depressing. It has been stated that 1/2 of the American population has been infected with Covid- by the time this horror is over, it seems almost all of us will become infected. Obviously, since the advent of vaccines and treatments, there will be less hospitalizations and deaths, but make no mistake: this is an evil virus- it attacks different organs and can result in Long Covid, even with mild cases.

I guess, with vaccines and people who already got over Covid, all countries will soon have herd immunity and it will be treated like flu in the future.

We are stuck with viruses.

And pandemics come and go.

Not so fast: There are many factors at work that are preventing what is thought to have been herd immunity in situations like this. People are getting reinfected. The article states that the fourth booster's effectiveness wanes sooner than the others that came before it.
