Whats the latest guidelines?

I just had a coworker tell me she thinks she was exposed 8 days ago. Started getting symptomatic Thursday. Tested positive Saturday. And will test in the morning before we work together. She said if she's negative we're good to go.

I was vaccinated 3/2021 and had a bad reaction (heart) so no boosters.

Why in the world am I going blank trying to find guidelines?
Is this the current one?

Is this the current one?

That’s what we are using at work and looks like the latest version.

“if you test positive for COVID-19, you stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others in your home. You are likely most infectious during these first 5 days. Wear a high-quality mask when you must be around others at home and in public.”

“if you were exposed to COVID-19, you wear a high-quality mask for 10 days and get tested on day 5.”

Made sure she knows to wear a mask. It's been ages since I've needed the guidelines. Thanks. :)

Welp, my 98-y.o. father in the nursing home (in Los Angeles) tested positive for Covid today. :(

If you read my prior post, they were in ‘outbreak mode‘ there, as it started spreading quickly. They informed me he does not have fever, but does have a cough. He will be given Paxlovid, so that is good. Sigh. He has never had Covid up til now. He is up to date on all his vaccinations and boosters, so I hope he gets through this, and without complications. He has dementia, so he may not understand what’s happening to him. :(

I am sorry to hear your father contracted Covid- thank goodness he is vaxxed and boosted-- Paxlovid seems to be successful treatment for lots of older folks. Hoping he recovers. It might be a blessing if he does not know what is happening to him.

I'm sorry to hear it. I hope he doesn't get very ill with Covid and will recover quickly.

@slowpoke, your father will be in my prayers tonight.

I am sorry to hear about your father. Luckily he is fully boosted, and he has made it this far, so I have faith he will endure. Sending love and prayers your way.

I recently heard a lot of talk here in LA about a big surge in covid. My friend works at a local hospital and she said it has made a sudden resurgence that took them by surprise.

My husband was invited to give a talk on a panel, which he was excited about---but when I found out it was at LA ComicCon at LA Convention Center, I was not happy. We have both escaped it this long and I don't want to catch it now.

He agreed to stay at our good friends apartment because they are out of town for 6 more weeks. They wanted us to go water plants and get mail anyway. lol

So this way he will wait 3 or 4 days to make sure he is clear before he comes back here.

“One need not wait on CDC action in order to put a mask on," Walensky said. "We would encourage all of those preventive measures — hand washing, staying home when you're sick, masking, increased ventilation — during respiratory virus season, but especially in areas of high Covid-19 community levels."

*insert unladylike snort*
I doubt that’s going to happen, around here they’d rather hold a lit bottle rocket in their hand than wear a mask.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words, prayers and encouragement. It means so much to experience such caring support from this community!

I should not be surprised, I guess—most of us are here at WS because we care deeply for our fellow human beings.

Is someone chopping onions here? (insert crying emoji here)
You all are the best.

I just now saw this about your Dad @slowpoke. I’m so sorry. Please do keep us posted. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Are you sure that’s long enough @katydid23? A good friend of mine didn’t test positive for about five days even after her symptoms started. You might want to banish him for a week! And have him wear a mask at home for the 10 days recommended. I think you can assume he will be exposed at Comic Con.

You’ve been very careful and fortunate so far, so I hope you can continue to avoid it. And congratulations to your dh for his part on the panel at Comic Con. That’s a big deal!

Hi Lillibet: my hair stylist was exposed to Covid (drats)- this was on Friday- I told him to go get a PCR test- if he did that, it would be on day 3 after the exposure. If the test is negative, should I feel comfortable he is negative or should I wait another week to get my hair done (which looks dreadful, but not worth getting Covid to get it done too soon)

I am in the burbs of L.A., working with the public.
Masking is probably a wise thing to do as I go back to work today.
Parents both in their late 80's.
None of us have had it yet, fully vaxxed and boosted, as well as flu shots.
I see them twice a day as I drop off and pick up my pooch for doggie daycare with the grand peeps.
Dad had hip surgery on the 14th, and then they both had the flu, Dad still having issues with that.
Vigilant in protecting the family!

@slowpoke, I hope today is a better health day for your beloved pops.

It was on the news that Covid cases are ticking up in California- esp LA County. Sounds like masking is a wise step to take. Hoping you and your grand peeps stay well. Take care!

Your probably right. This is day 4, and he has no symptoms so far. He is still at our friend's place. When he does come back I will have us both wear masks and he can stay in the guest bedroom. lol

We had the booster here today. Pfizer. Described as “the new Pfizer, for the Omicron variants too” by the volunteer. I didn’t like to tell her I’m practically an expert thanks to WS :p. I feel the ache making its way round but not too bad otherwise. Advised to drink lots of water which is apparently helping relieve after effects somewhat. Thinking that’s good advice whatever, really.

I did have to persuade Mr HKP unfortunately. He somehow convinced himself it’s not worth it, as he was pretty unwell back in July. Had to explain how unwell he could have been without it!! Anyway, both boosted and flu jabbed now.

Have you both also received a pneumonia vaccine? Prevnar 13, a 2-dose regimen, is recommended for adults 65+. There is also a newer version, Prevnar 20, one dose, that is recommended for those under 65 with health complications like diabetes, heart issues, hypertension, asthma, COPD, etc. DH and I both got the Prevnar 13 vax when we turned 65 and both had the subsequent dose a year later.

No, we dont get those offered as far as I know. It’s only the second time we’ve had flu vaccine.
