DH was up for a few hours but has gone back to bed. He still has a low-grade fever with chills and took another Tylenol. This why we never plan something for the day after a vaccine. You never know how it is going to affect you. Some people will be just fine while others experience unpleasant side effects. I'm going to stay quiet and do some reading. Hopefully, DH will feel better by this evening.

DH and I (in our late 70s) have had the high dose flu vaccine and the Covid vaccine at the same time (but different arms) this year and last year and have had no problems. But I will pay attention to further studies and data. BBM below.

Oct. 26, 2023 – Vaccines for COVID-19 and flu might raise the risk of strokes for older people, especially when given together and to seniors over 85, new research says.

"There is no need for panic, and emphatically no need to stop giving COVID and flu shots at the same time to older adults," Peter Chin-Hong, MD, an infectious diseases specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, told ABC News.

The results were also not yet peer reviewed, ABC News reported....

“The absolute risk is miniscule,” Steve Nissen, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic told CNN. “I mean it is trivial in comparison to the risk for people over 85 of dying from Covid.”

A new study has found there may be a slightly increased risk of strokes in adults age 85 or older if they receive vaccines for COVID-19 and influenza at the same time.

The risk identified in the study, which was supported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, appears to be very low, with only three reported strokes for every 100,000 doses administered. The data also shows the risk of stroke could be primarily driven by the high-dose flu vaccine alone.

While talking with the pharmacist at Costco where I got my flu shot and plan to get my Covid shot, she agreed with me that it was a good idea to wait at least one week between the two vaccines. I told her I planned to wait two weeks.

Yes, I agree. I understand that some might think it more convenient to get both shots in one trip but I want to get mine separately.

Exactly, what does it matter to you if I wear a mask or not, no reason to risk it, that’s my personal decision, I’m not young, I have underlying health conditions, have to work and pay the bills…c’mon now, not to mention what if I was Covid positive and didn’t want to spread it around…

I’m in the UK & had Covid & flu vaccinations yesterday.

I would have preferred to have them separately but there’s no guarantee that there would be vaccines available if I delayed one of them!

I felt very unwell overnight with headache, sweats, joint aches & a racing heart. Paracetamol helped. Hopefully over the worst now!
I had a similar reaction to my 1st Covid vaccination, though not as bad.

I reckon my reaction is a sign I’m mounting a strong immune response!

Thanks @neesaki. Fortunately the racing heart was only overnight & the other symptoms lasted no longer than 36hrs! I’m happy to have been vaccinated as there are still people round about me going down with Covid.

When should you come out of Covid isolation? Experts weigh in

The CDC says we should isolate for five days after testing positive. Other public health officials disagree. Who is right?

Covid symptoms may change, but the appearance of a pink line on a rapid test means one thing for sure: five days of isolation.

The guidance, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has been in place since late 2021. At the moment, the agency doesn’t appear to be making any changes to the policy.

But in some cases, telling people to isolate after a positive test may have an unintended effect.

Dr. Victoria Valencia, interim director for the Health Center for Student Care at Tulane University in New Orleans, said that she and her staff saw an uptick in Covid when students returned to campus in August. But that is no longer the case, as students now tend to decline Covid testing.

“Students are afraid of being diagnosed with Covid” because they don’t want to isolate, Valencia said.

Today I learned that someone I visited with indoors last week (unmasked, for more than just a few moments) has tested positive for covid.

I went to my local hospital to request a PCR test but they don't do them anymore. Grr! I asked how to get one and the woman suggested "I don't know, maybe Public Health or Rite Aid?"

I'll check with those places on Monday but in the meantime I took a home RAT test which says negative, but I know not to trust that result.

I've already texted the three people I know I spent indoor time with in the past few days, just as a cautious heads-up.

The woman who is ill had contact with lots of other folks besides me last week and I encouraged her to tell them and I hope they all get tested and also avoid others for a while, but I doubt most will do anything other than watch for symptoms (which are irrelevant for almost everyone, IMO)

Still hoping I escaped catching it. I'm more diligent about masking and general people-avoiding than anyone else I know, but I do let my guard down now and then and I hope it hasn't come back to bite me this time.

I seem to have a virus of some kind. Symptoms started yesterday with headache, body aches, and feeling tired. This morning I woke up with a scratchy and sore throat. Lots of sinus drainage. I haven't tested for Covid yet but will do so in the next day or so. It may just be a cold, of course. In the meantime, I'm sad because we missed a Choir party tonight, and they are always so much fun and with great potluck food.

I'm worried my mother may have it. Similar symptoms to yours especially the sore throat and fatigue. You can't easily get a PCR test here these days and she has never done a home test (I've done dozens on myself). She's never needed to do any kind of test before actually, which is kind of amazing nearly four years in. Her eyesight and manual dexterity aren't great anymore and the home kits can be quite fiddly (plus the text on the instruction leaflets is minuscule) so I'm going to go over this morning and do the test for her. Fingers crossed it's just a seasonal cold.

I decided to go urgent care to get tested for Covid- they did the Rapid Antigen and the PCR- I got tested twice- thank goodness it was negative but these days symptoms of different viruses including Covid can be difficult figure out. Best to be tested.
