This may behind a pay wall

Kennedy Jr. is cancelling funding for MRNA vaccine contracts

If he had been in charge at the start of the pandemic in 2020 millions more would have died. Horrifying to even think about.

Is anyone surprised?

Regarding the vaccine development is he is cancelling, from the article:

"The technology won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023."

From the link, bbm. Why his inaccuracy isn't the LEAD, I don't know.

"In a video posted on social media on Tuesday, he claimed falsely that mRNA vaccines do not protect against respiratory illnesses like Covid and the flu, and that a single mutation in a virus renders the vaccine ineffective...

Scientists disputed Mr. Kennedy’s claims as inaccurate.

'By issuing this wildly incorrect statement, the secretary is demonstrating his commitment to his long-held goal of sowing doubts about all vaccines,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, director of the Pandemic Center at the Brown University School of Public Health."

The Trump administration is terminating 22 contracts focused on developing mRNA vaccines and winding down additional federal investments in mRNA technology, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Tuesday.

Many scientists and infectious disease experts swiftly denounced the move as a broadside on an area of research seen as particularly promising after its use in rapidly developing Covid vaccines.

The projects that are being axed were funded by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a Department of Health and Human Services program that works with the pharmaceutical industry to develop vaccines and other countermeasures for public health emergencies...

Nope. Unfortunately I am not at all surprised. I just don't understand their mindset. Like... AT. ALL. It just does not compute.

I guess he thinks he's smarter than scientists? WRONG! smh

I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone or something, off in an alternate universe where there is no common sense, just ego and greed.

Ignoring scientists’ pleas, RFK Jr. slashes investments in mRNA vaccines

Washington — The Department of Health and Human Services will cancel contracts and pull funding for some vaccines that are being developed to fight respiratory viruses like COVID-19 and the flu.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced in a statement Tuesday that 22 projects, totaling $500 million, to develop vaccines using mRNA technology will be halted.

Kennedy's decision to terminate the projects is the latest in a string of decisions that have put the longtime vaccine critic's doubts about shots into full effect at the nation's health department. Kennedy has pulled back recommendations around the COVID-19 shots, fired the panel that makes vaccine recommendations, and refused to offer a vigorous endorsement of vaccinations as a measles outbreak worsened...

And we will fall behind in our leadership in science and research. We're trashing our standing, ruining our institutions.

I don't understand the support for that.

That is okay, RFK will fund a study on using Leeches to cure viruses. Prayer chants, Leeches, and blood letting will become standard medical procedures, and the United States will lead the world into the "Dark Ages of Medicine".

Welp, not so much of a favor to increase dependency on outside sources.

I totally agree. I guess I should have said an itty-bitty teeny-weeny favor cuz a small one is too big. I was being thankful that they can get the funding they need from somewhere else. I wish time would speed the heck up because 2028 is wayyyyy to far out.

The president is proposing to increase tariffs on drugs imported.

So the plan seems to be cut funding for medical technology and research in our own country, fire federal employees working in that sector, spread false information, and increase the cost of importing drugs from another. Is that the plan?

Yesterday:

“'But in one year, one in a half years maximum, it’s [tariff] going to go to 150 percent, and then it’s going to go to 250 percent, because we want pharmaceuticals made in our country,' Trump said. "

Yeah, I heard them talking about the 250% tariff on pharmaceuticals just a few minutes ago on CNBC. I was like... 250%!?!? How can people afford that? Scary times IMO.

I do not either but the only thing we want to be a leader in is armaments.

Let's not forget trepanation - drilling holes in the head to release evil spirits - for the treatment of mental illness :D
