OREGON—as of 9/11–😠

Current status on COVID-19 vaccines

Oregon Health Authority is aware that in response to recent federal policy changes and lack of federal guidance, some pharmacies are limiting appointments for the new COVID-19 vaccines.

The new COVID-19 vaccine was approved on August 27, 2025, but national advisors are still finalizing guidance on who should get it and how. Until that guidance is published, pharmacies in Oregon need a clinician’s prescription to give the vaccine. This delay is causing confusion and disruption in access at local pharmacies.

Due to these circumstances, there are two ways to receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine:
  1. By provider prescription, fulfilled by a pharmacist.
  2. At your health care provider’s office.

Georgia:

Last week, the state’s Department of Public Health announced that it will be halting distribution of the newest version of the COVID-19 vaccine until after the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issues its annual recommendations. The panel is scheduled to meet in Atlanta from Sept. 18-19.

Alabama:

The two retail pharmacy chains [CVS and Walgreens] confirmed they will continue to administer shots in Alabama without a prescription. That means residents here may have an easier time accessing the vaccine compared to those in neighboring states such as Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana, where prescriptions from a physician or medical provider are now required.

An artist created a portrait of Fauci for the Smithsonian. It is currently on the museum's website but the White House has listed it as objectionable.

[The artist] Crossthwaite reckons that the White House singled it out because it depicts someone who promoted the technology and creation of vaccines — a once apolitical issue that has become increasingly partisan.

To see the portrait before it disappears:

As the top U.S. expert on infectious diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci led the country’s response to COVID-19.

Hurrah!

Taking the 18 yo with multiple risk factors tonight (who was already scheduled to get one at CVS before Pritzker's action) to get his shot. Interestingly, when I made the appt through CVS's app to get the shot I could go to any of my area CVS and some have Pfizer, some have Moderna. When we made his in the same way, it is limiting him to only the CVS locations that have Moderna. I'm not sure why....they do have his age because we get all his prescriptions filled there and were signed into his account when we made the appt.

Just a guess on my part is because they have mNEXSPIKE and the other sites do not. It's a good thing IMO.

I posted about that HERE.

Right. But what confuses is me is that when we made his appt and then again when we rescheduled it would only let him get an appt at CVSs that had the Moderna. It wouldn't let him get an appt at the CVS that I went to and got Pfizer last week (and we made our appts on the same day. I haven't heard anything specific about either brand being specifically not for 18 yos.

That is kind of odd. And to the best of my knowledge, AKA IMO, I have not heard of any not for an 18 yo. But, I think the scheduling tools can be a tad wonky. Also JMO! :p

And the mNEXSPIKE is a Moderna vaccine on top of their regular one for those without with health risks. They put out the 2 this year. Now for me to find one.

My husband and I received the latest Moderna Covid and the Flu vaccines yesterday at Costco, Louisiana. We needed a physician’s script. It only took 10 minutes and no appointments necessary. My Costco location carries a couple of brands. All of our Covid vaccines are Moderna.

I received a text from CVS that that they are administering Covid vaccines.
@Gemmie you may check with your local Costco. The pharmacy provides it.

“The governors of Arizona, Illinois, Maine and North Carolina on Friday joined the growing list of Democratic officials who have signed orders intended to ensure most residents can receive COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacies without individual prescriptions.”

Trump health officials plan to link coronavirus vaccines to the deaths of 25 children as they consider limiting which Americans should get the shots, according to four people familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe confidential information.

The findings appear to be based on information submitted to the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which contains unverified reports of side effects or bad experiences with vaccines submitted by anyone, including patients, doctors, pharmacists or even someone who sees a report on social media. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasizes that the database is not designed to assess whether a shot caused a death, a conclusion that requires thorough investigations by scientists and public health professionals...

Our Pfizer stock plummeted yesterday following this announcement :(

I searched whether the mNEXSPIKE option will be available in Canada - nothing yet. It seems like a healthier choice since it is targeted and lower dose.

If you have ever used or perused VARS, it asks for a lot of information, but it will accept less if you supply less. It will collect "advanced" info from health professionals. It is interesting to read and you do get a sense of the quality of the data from reading it, IMO.

VAERS contains such 'vaccine reactions' as car crashes weeks/ months after vaccination, broken bones from falls, turning into the Incredible Hulk, and a p*nis swelling to ten times its normal size. A couple of interesting articles you might be interested in:

Can you please sum up the important parts since it threw a roadblock up in my face?
“The CDC’s immunization committee “is no longer a trusted source for vaccine guidance,” Dr. Matt Willis, the former public health officer for Marin County, wrote on the blog Your Local Epidemiologist in California.”

“California is moving away from the CDC's guidance and toward recommendations issued by medical groups, such as professional organizations of pediatricians, family physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists.”

The last meeting of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) in June abandoned the use of its rigorous evidence-to-recommendation framework for making vaccine policy decisions, which structures decisions around key factors, including the balance of benefits and harms, the type or quality of evidence and health economic analyses, among other elements. The meeting also included new members making inaccurate statements about both vaccine safety and efficacy and included a presentation by a well-known anti-vaccine advocate that was filled with errors.

Now, the committee is set to include even more vaccine skeptics when it meets later this week, according to published reports, including multiple anti–COVID mRNA vaccine activists. (On Monday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed five new ACIP members.)

ACIP meetings have always been treated by the press and the public as sincere efforts to present and discuss vaccine-related information in a public forum. But what happens when the exercise isn’t genuine, and is instead ideological? When it’s vaccine policy theater with the outcome already decided, instead of scientific discussion?
