Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #112

Gentle reminder...

I think reposting SillyBilly's recent post would be good to repost. I do NOT want the Covid thread closed down because it's starting to get political. There's too much good being shared here and it would be a shame if it comes to that.

Well said.

DH and I got our RSV and Covid vaccinations today. I wanted to get mNEXSPIKE but our local CVS did not have it, so we went to a nearby town. We got the RSV vaccine in the right arm and Covid in the left. No pain or discomfort so far! Pfizer vaccines always made my arm sore for a few days.

We got the flu vaccine at our doctor's office in September.

DH and I got our flu shots at Meijer yesterday. I asked the pharmacist which Covid shot/s they're offering, and he said only Moderna. We will get those after Thanksgiving - closer to our January cruise.

After a rough, record-setting flu season, doctors and health officials are bracing for another wave of fever, misery and respiratory distress.

In the U.K., health officials are warning about an early rise in flu levels among children and young adults. In Japan, health officials recently declared a flu epidemic and closed schools after experiencing an unusually high number of flu cases early in the season.

What does that mean for the US?

Typically, flu cases start to rise in November, along with RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and enteroviruses, and peak in February. But job-cut chaos at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the government shutdown could make it hard to know how the virus is playing out this fall, experts worry...

Which Moderna?

Didn't get any details.
It was Moderna's mNEXSPIKE for me. I spent countless hours looking for a place that had it. As I've posted a bazillion times it has a higher efficacy for those over 65 or 12+ at high risk so it was very important to me to not get Moderna's regular formula (Spikevax).

When I called Walmart to ask about their Covid shots, she couldn’t tell me if they had mNEXSPIKE and said to ask the pharmacist when I got there. So I did and he went and switched regular Moderna for the mNEXSPIKE, so it pays to ask even at the point you’re about to get your shot!

This will probably be too long
To summarize, I got my Covid vaccine:)

I am a true believer in vaccines, maybe because I was a nurse, more likely because my family did growing up
I just now got my flu & Covid vaccines for fall - I was stuck being too uncomfortable with all the changes now I shhh about that🤫

I kept putting it off perhaps stubbornly but I recently had to be in health care places a lot and that scared me more …
To be out in the world without the vaccine.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought you've mentioned that you're over 65. If that's a fact, then they should NOT have even had you scheduled to get M's Spikevax and had you scheduled for mNEXSPIKE WITHOUT even ASKING!!!

Glad you asked. :)

We had scheduled an appointment online, but I don’t remember if I was able to ask for what I wanted. They were clearly too rushed when we got there to answer questions and told me to check with the pharmacist.. So yes, they should have had the mNEXSPIKE ready automatically because of our ages, but I’ve learned to make sure. One time I got my flu shot at BiMart and asked the pharmacist for the one for seniors. Looking at the paperwork I received afterward, I saw that it was the regular flu shot. I was MAD! As my dh would say, “He got Lilibeted.” 😡 So since then I make sure of what I’m getting, even going so far as to ask to see the syringe.

Interesting new information about mRNA vaccine, immunotherapy cancer treatment, and mortality:

"Immunotherapy is often more effective in patients with certain types of cancer if they also received a COVID-19 vaccine during the same period. This is according to research from the University of Texas, published in the journal Nature.

This primarily concerns mRNA vaccines against COVID-19, such as those from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, which are being used in the Netherlands. The vaccine can help treat certain types of cancer. Some tumors are resistant to immunotherapy, but if patients have recently received a COVID-19 vaccination, the treatment suddenly becomes effective: the vaccine makes the tumors more susceptible to it.

The researchers observed a significant difference between two groups of patients with advanced lung cancer, both of whom had been treated with immunotherapy. Of the group who had received an mRNA vaccine within 100 days of receiving immunotherapy, 55.7 percent were still alive after three years. Of the group without a COVID-19 vaccine, that figure was 30.8 percent.
...

The Dutch Society for Medical Oncology (NVMO) calls the results impressive. However, the association is cautious about drawing conclusions. "This study retrospectively examined data from groups of people. Therefore, other factors may have influenced the outcomes," says a spokesperson."

I posted on the foodie thread yesterday that I might have had a mild reaction to the flu shot last Friday. I was fine on Friday and Saturday but had tummy issues on Sunday and felt like I was coming down with a cold: Stuffy nose, scratchy throat, dry cough, just felt kind of blah for a few days. I didn't associate the symptoms with the flu shot because I haven't had problems with them previously. Another reason why I won't get more than one vaccine at a time.

I got my COVID vaccination today in a huge hall that was decorated for Halloween.
Imagine getting a COVID shot among skeletons, spiders, witches and zombie-babies. 😲
It was weird to the extreme. IMO pumpkins are okay, but having a grisly figure overlooking the refrigerator box with vaccines...??
At one moment, a woman was bending over to fetch new vaccines from the box, and it looked as if the zombie was going to push her.

I got my shot and I guess that's what matters most.

Managed to take one picture, see spoiler.

The refrigerator box is between the table and the creepy figure with the purple scarf.

I wonder what Kennedy would think about this study? The positive outcome is that it could change his mind that kids are autistic from the covid vaccine. This study says otherwise (they weren't challenging him, they were simply showing study stats, which in turn challenges his view. That's a good thing IMO! More people might start getting the vaccine).

A new study suggests that children of mothers who had COVID-19 during pregnancy are at 29% higher risk of neurodevelopmental conditions such as speech delays, motor disorders, and autism by age 3, although the overall odds are likely low and may well have ebbed since the pandemic peak.
Of the 861 children whose mothers had COVID-19 while pregnant, 16.3% were diagnosed as having at least one neurodevelopmental condition by age 3, compared with 9.7% of the 17,263 children from COVID-negative pregnancies. After adjusting for maternal age, race, insurance and hospital type, and preterm birth, COVID-19 infection in pregnancy was linked to a 29% higher risk of a neurodevelopmental disorder in children.

"These findings highlight that COVID-19, like many other infections in pregnancy, may pose risks not only to the mother, but to fetal brain development," senior author Andrea Edlow, MD, of Mass General Brigham, said in a news release.

So my Dr who happens to be antivax said to me at last years appointment, “please (omit name) tell me that ur mom didn’t get the vaccines and boosters”. He knows her personally. So I told him she did & I asked why he asked. He told me well she’ll be dead within a couple of years. It upset & scared me. I never told my mom. But All this to say… Turns out he WAS right. My mom died 5 months ago totally unexpectedly with no health issues. She deemed Healthy one month prior at her yearly check up. Natural cause of death. This is the 7th person I know who’ve died after the vaccine. I’m not here to bash it. I’m surly not going to tell anyone what to do. It’s none of my business. Good for the people who want them & think they help. Imo Our time is up when it’s time. No vaccine is going to keep someone alive if Gods ready for you. Luckily they’re not mandated anymore imo. No one should mandate people to inject something they don’t want. Good luck to the people who take it. I only want the best for you all. Moo imo

I'm sorry about your mom.
