Harvard epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch told The Wall Street Journal that "it's likely we'll see a global pandemic" of coronavirus, with 40 to 70 percent of the world's population likely to be infected this year.

"What proportion of those will be symptomatic, I can't give a good number," added Lipsitch, who is the Director of the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Two other experts have recently given similar estimates.

Ira Longini, a biostatistician and adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO), has predicted that two-thirds of the global population may eventually contract COVID-19.

Prof Gabriel Leung, the chair of public health medicine at Hong Kong University, says if the transmission estimate of 2.5 additional people for each infected rate is accurate, that would result in an "attack rate" that would affect 60 to 80 percent of the world's population.

• Cobb County SPLOST Open House, March 11: Canceled because West Cobb Library is undergoing a deep clean after a worker tested positive for coronavirus.
• National Council on Public History, March 18-21: "Given the unfolding outbreak of COVID-19, the NCPH Board of Directors and staff have concluded, with regret, that we cannot proceed with holding the in-person 2020 NCPH annual meeting in Atlanta," the organization says. They are looking at ways to arrange the meeting in a virtual setting.
• Georgia Chamber of Commerce Future of Free Enterprise seminar, March 23: Postponed because of individual company restrictions on attending. "A rescheduled date will be announced later in the second quarter," the chamber says.
• Georgia Chamber of Commerce Future of Rural Healthcare seminar, March 25: "Due to the heightened awareness of global health concerns in Georgia, the Georgia Chamber respects the demands of healthcare professionals’ time and wishes to alleviate any external commitments for this critical industry to Georgia’s overall well-being," the chamber says. Future dates will be announced.
• Congressman David Scott's annual jobs fair at Georgia International Convention Center, March 27: “In response to recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the coronavirus, I have decided to cancel our 2020 Jobs Fair," the representative from Georgia's 13th congressional district said. "This situation is rapidly evolving and changing from day-to-day. Keeping our community safe and healthy is of the utmost priority to me.”
• Georgia Tech Cognitive Aging Conference, April 16-19: Postponed due to travel restrictions making it "impossible for many people to attend," the school says. They are looking at hotel availability for summer and fall 2020 to reschedule.
• Out of state field trips and travel otherwise: Atlanta Public Schools and DeKalb County Public Schools are among the districts that have canceled such arrangements. Others are reviewing.

Holidays around the world have been postponed and cancelled as coronavirus continues to spread globally.

British Airways has cancelled all flights to Italy and Qantas has slashed 25 per cent of its international flights. Meanwhile more new cases have been reported in Cyprus and Spain as the outbreak continues, The Sun reports.

But there are still a number of destinations tourists can travel to which currently have no reported cases of the infectious virus.

The University of Georgia - has not updated it's website information on the Corona Virus since March 5th. The University of Northern Georgia has not updated since March 3rd. Georgia has 22 confirmed cases. How can they not provide updated information ?

Coronavirus Conference Gets Canceled Because of Coronavirus

The Council on Foreign Relations has canceled a roundtable called “Doing Business Under Coronavirus” scheduled for Friday in New York due to the spread of the infection itself.
