Trump on.

Best team in the world. Took early action and now seeing fewer cases than Europe.

Strong actions:
Suspending all travel from Europe for 30 days effective midnight Friday. Will not apply to U.K.

Health insurance will waive copays for coronavirus treatment.
Antiviral treatments to be available in record time.
Testing is expanding...moving quickly...risk low for young Americans
Elderly must be careful
Nursing homes should suspend non-essential visits
Smart action today will prevent the spread of the virus tomorrow
We each have a role to play regarding sanitation, and if sick stay home.
Financial relief for workers impacted...asking Congress
Greatest economy in world...gives us resources to handle anything
Small Bus Admin to provide loans to small businesses
Defering Tax payments
Payroll tax relief to Congress
Will never hesitate to take whatever necessary steps
Virus will not have a chance against us
All in this together...put politics aside, stop partisanship
Future brighter than anyone can imagine
Will emerge stronger than ever before

Sadly, imo you are in for a big let-down when the US is finally able to distribute and conduct the mass testing required to know just how many cases you actually have. It's not hundreds.

Rudy Gobert reportedly tests positive for coronavirus; Thunder and Jazz players quarantined

“Later in the night, Tony Jones of The Athletic reported that both locker rooms were being quarantined, and players were not allowed to leave. It's not clear at this time how long that process will last. Prior to the game on Wednesday, the team announced that Gobert and Emmanuel Mudiay were both out for the game due to an illness.”

“Prior to the game on Wednesday, the team announced that Gobert and Emmanuel Mudiay were both out for the game due to an illness. It's obviously too early to speculate if they actually have the coronavirus, but this scenario continues to look more and more serious.”

News is coming so fast it is hard to keep up.

For those of us who have been posting on the CV threads since #1, remember how some people thought it was nothing, and downplayed our concerns?

Exactly. We are barely testing. We know that there are cases coming up from community transmission, so virus is in the community.

Nations are closing borders, stocks are plummeting and a New York Times headline reads: “The Coronavirus Has Put the World’s Economy in Survival Mode.” Both political parties have realized the crisis could severely impact the November elections — House, Senate, presidency. And sacré bleu, they’ve even shuttered the Louvre!

Some of these reactions are understandable, much of it pure hysteria. Meanwhile, the spread of the virus continues to slow.

More than 18,000 Americans have died from this season’s generic flu so far, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2018, the CDC estimated, there were 80,000 flu deaths. That’s against 19 coronavirus deaths so far, from about 470 cases.
https://nypost.com/2020/03/08/coron...peak-and-start-falling-sooner-than-you-think/

That's what I thought at first. But the WHO, the CDC, multiple epidemiologists, they're not hysterical.

Are you not seeing what's happening in Italy? In Iran? The virus is slowing in China and South Korea. Everywhere else it's just gotten started:

"Italy today expanded its COVID-19 lockdown to include the whole country, affecting about 60 million people, as the World Health Organization (WHO) today said the threat of a pandemic from the COVID-19 virus is very real, signaling a tone of increased urgency.

Italy's announcement marks the first time a whole country has been placed on lockdown and comes on the heels of 1,797 new cases today and quickly rising numbers in other European countries.

The health ministry today reported 1,797 cases, up from 1,492 new infections reported the day before, raising its overall total to 9,172. The country also reported 97 more deaths, lifting its fatality count to 463. The lockdown involving Lombardy, the hardest-hit province, and nearby regions had put about 16 million people in quarantine.

Italy has the second-most COVID-19 cases in the world, behind China. On Feb 23—just 15 days ago—the nation had only 132 cases.

Elsewhere in Europe, Germany reported 237 new cases today, raising its total to 1,139, according to totals from the Robert Koch Institute. The country has reported two deaths. The hardest-hit states are North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Wurttemberg.

And Spain's capital of Madrid over the past 2 days reported 469 more cases, boosting the country's total to 1,050, Anadolu Agency news reported today, citing the country's health ministry. Health officials have called an emergency meeting, given an epidemic growth rate that is similar to Italy's. France also recently crossed the 1,000-case mark.

Albania reported its first two cases, in a man and his son who had traveled to Italy, Agence France-Presse reported.

Cases rise in Iran, other Mideast countries
In Iran, one of the world's other hot spots, the health ministry today reported 595 new cases and 43 new deaths, raising its respective total to 7,161 cases, 237 of them fatal.

The country has temporarily released 70,000 prisoners from jail to battle the spread of the virus in the facilities, Reuters reported today. Judiciary officials said the prisoner release will continue to the point where it doesn't create security problems, and they didn't specify when the released people would return to jail."

Yup. It’s been more about saving face than saving people

I'm wondering how that's going to work. Planes travel in two directions full of people. If the planes are full going into Europe, but they have to fly back to the USA empty, how long will that last?

I didn't see the PC with Trump.
What about people who live in the US but are presently in Europe? Citizens, green crd holders, work visa holders etc?
Can they get back?

Absolutely! I wonder when mass testing will happen. No time soon, I expect.

“Prior to tip-off as the game was delayed, Chris Paul ran over to the Utah bench and said “what’s wrong with Rudy?” and they all yelled for him to get away. Now all the players are quarantined in their locker rooms, being tested for the virus.”

I work at a major university in Ontario. I do wonder if we will be shutting down. As of now the updates are positive and seem to minimize the risk. But hearing of U of G talk of online classes to the media as posted earlier I do wonder if they will all move to online classes.

Wondering what is going to happen with all of these kids out of school. If their parents still have to work. That would be a headache.

He mentioned exceptions, but I didn’t catch it all.

I'm starting to think it's better to get sick sooner than later....given the tremendous strain on hospitals and medical staff, if it's coming to the point of needing to choose who to treat.

One would hope that anyone who wanted to return home due to the virus made arrangements before today.

Assuming the MLB 2020 season will be cancelled also if the NBA is cancelling their season. That is unheard of. Networks rely on sports / big$$$ from their advertisers that sports bring.

However, since everyone is frightened and will probably be staying more indoors, should I buy stock in streaming services?

NBA's full statement:

“The NBA announced that a player on the Utah Jazz has preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19. The test result was reported shortly prior to the tip-off of tonight’s game between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. At that time, tonight’s game was canceled. The affected player was not in the arena.
The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice. The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”
