Here is why calls for blanket testing will not work:big supply issues worldwide. So need to use resources in a smart way: test positive means whole household should be considered positive, no need for individual testing but home quarantaine where possible RNA Extraction Kits for COVID-19 Tests Are in Short Supply in US

I know there are some university professors here- my brother’s university just announced it will be closed for the semester. He’s defending his PhD dissertation in 2 weeks. What will they even do? I hope the universities can be flexible allowing small meetings off campus for something like that?

(For the record I agree with the closings, I just wonder how this will be handled.)
I'm guessing it's a learning curve and decisions will be made day by day. Universities are facing situations which never before have risen. Tough play calling.

Good luck to you brother. Maybe he'll have more time to prepare, though I suspect he wants to be done with it. DH went through the same prep and defense many years ago..

I am in VA too and am more worried by his pressers than I was over his absence for 5 days. And he is a doctor! Maybe he is stunned because he realizes how bad this really is, but he sure isn't helping confidence in the Commonwealth!

Thank you for sharing, so I'm not the only one concerned?

The local paper had an article on FB, 100% comments were, how the media is overlaying this and we are crazy to be concerned.

Evidence has been converging for a while that one key thing every country needs to do to get a handle on #covid19 is to test, test, test. This is also one thing the US bungled really badly. That’s why many experts expect US to look worse than most European countries soon.

I am so maxed out on WP articles. I tried googling this and don't see that church services are canceled in what I read. Are they recommending this somewhere or is just based on size of the gathering?

Here’s What’s Canceled, Closed or Postponed in the DC Area Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Services at D.C.-Area Episcopal Churches
The Washington National Cathedral and hundreds of other Episcopal churches in the D.C. area are closed after the Episcopal Diocese of Washington canceled all public worship services and normal parish operations for two weeks, effective March 12.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde said that the diocese will asses the situation on March 25, with the aim to reopen worship services on March 29. The Washington National Cathedral will livestream its worship services on Sunday, March 15 and Sunday, March 22. White Elephant donations are also postponed until further notice.

There are more listed, one of the outbreaks was from an Episcopalian church.

From a scientific/medical point of view it will be very interesting, when all this is over, to see if any nations or regions handled it in better ways than others. It is a true global test and we have to learn from the mistakes and successes worldwide. I hope we can jointly establish a blueprint for if this ever happens again.

I know I have missed many, many threads but there is a sector that worries me. Undocumented folks. Not like they are going to come forward to be tested. I'm in Ontario Canada and not yet in my City. Key word yet. I worry for my American Family and of course all of you fine folks here.
