Just a little update regarding my son from NY. Recap, since I was having trouble quoting...His instructor not only tested positive but has symptoms. She is sick, but still at home. He just now found out that another person in his class has symptoms and is positive. So two with CV in one small class, not a lecture hall. They worked on a project and shared white board markers. He goes to NYU. He says his test results should be by Monday. That seems like a long time but he is home, self quarantined. On a worse note, he didn't want to worry me earlier, but he has a cough, recently developed. No fever. He was not sure how they got it. The instructor was first. She had symptoms 6 days ago, the student 4 days ago. Thank you so much for your concern. I appreciate you all. You were first to know, even before family. You are family in a different way.

Coronavirus: Bergen County school districts (NJ) will close next week as cases rise

Schools in all 75 Bergen County school districts will shut down and transition to online and paper learning in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, County Executive Jim Tedesco said Thursday night.

The recommendation came as Bergen County saw its presumed cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19, rise by two Thursday to 13, the most of any county in the state. State health officials said the risk to residents in the county is "moderate."

Tedesco said a decision to close schools was "a paramount decision, and I don't take it or make it lightly."

"It is vital that we protect our children from the danger of this virus," he said.

It's one of those nights....

"The World Health Organization has announced that dogs cannot contract Covid-19. Dogs previously held in quarantine can now be released. To be clear, WHO let the dogs out."

Thank goodness we can get over that discussion! Can you imagine the hysteria here ala China and their pets?

Not sure if my previous post went through, but I feel like this is a good framework for making decisions as to what to attend right now. When in doubt, stay home if you can. It protects every one. My heart goes out to all those in the front lines of this fight, and for all those who will inevitably be struggling with the economic impact.

There are lots of nursing homes in the United States. It will be interesting to see how this falls out. Especially in Florida.

Home of Disney World. Wonder what the plan is there...

Three of the confirmed cases in my county are coworkers at a nursing home/assisted living community. Scary.

China declared the peak had passed there as new cases in Hubei fell to single digits for the first time on Thursday.

“Broadly speaking, the peak of the epidemic has passed for China,” said Mi Feng, a spokesman for the National Health Commission. “The increase of new cases is falling.”

Zhong Nanshan, the government’s senior medical adviser, told reporters that as long as countries take the outbreak seriously and are prepared to take firm measures, it could be over worldwide in a matter of months.

“My advice is calling for all countries to follow WHO instructions and intervene on a national scale,” he said. “If all countries could get mobilised, it could be over by June.”
Speaking to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President Xi Jinping similarly expressed confidence, state television reported.

“My estimate of June is based on scenarios that all countries take positive measures.”

The purpose of shutting down events and schools is an attempt to for the health care system to not be so overwhelmed and to slow the spread of the virus, correct ? Will shutting things down for two weeks be enough to slow the spread of the virus considering reports from China stated some patients are still contagious after recovery and recovery can take weeks ?
Well two weeks just might be the start. Anything will help, imo.

Thinking about you, neighbor, and keeping you in my prayers. I hope your son will be fine.

I believe Disney Paris is shut down too.

Does that mean every Disney resort and park worldwide will be shut down?
My local Orlando news said Disney Paris will
remain OPEN.

Starbucks....no I can't, I just can't..They know my drink by heart...I can't give it up. This is a most seriously issue. I need help immediately. What can I order on line to make my Starbucks at home. I'll give up toilet paper for Starbucks.

Buy their large bottled drinks in the stores, heat and/whip to make them frothy. You will survive trust me. Buy whipped cream.

I think our Gov said if everyone can stay home 25% more we can really reduce the impact of novel C!
I think maybe it is a good thing people are stocking up at the grocery. They won’t need to venture out so soon. The stores can get a truck when they need to restock. As an item is scanned, it is automatically ordered.

He really is! His ability to be candid is awesome.
Love your "Wash your hands" quote. So true. If there is any upside to all this, hopefully people develop healthier habits and become more prepared for emergencies.

If you can work from home, please do --- even if your company doesn't mandate it as many are doing in NYC and California right now. Also, an outdated chart but it's helpful in understanding how to make decisions right now as to which events to attend.

As someone who’s boss won’t ever agree to let me work from home, I can’t imagine why anyone would go into the office if they didn’t have to. Pandemic or not.
