If all goes well, available by November.
What happens in the meantime, if spread continues so rapidly: we all stay indoors, and only leave for necessities?
MOO.

Yes, I’ve also wondered how long we can sustain staying home except for essential outings. We’ve only just begun! Will we just give up at some point, especially if our friends aren’t taking the same precautions?

Also the WHO offered the US 60,000 tests last month and the US rejected the offer saying we wanted to make the tests ourselves. At a PC this week both the head of the CDC and Pence “didn’t know” who decided to reject the tests the rest of the world is using.

Huh?

I'm going to go out tomorrow and stock up on cat food. One of our cats just had dental surgery and had a few teeth removed as well as having two lower canines cut off at the gum level that had 'resorbed' to bone. I've never heard of it but now my boy only has one canine and his tongue is probably going to hang out of his mouth.

I did the TP run and got huge packages at Canadian Tire. All the grocery stores and Costco were out. We have a pantry that has lots of staples in it but maybe could have more.

Good idea. We've done the same.

Hope your kitty recovers soon!

@MJPeony what information is out there about the 18 new cases today? Are they from the Grand Princess perhaps? Any information about how many of them are community spread? TIA

Hey Auntie-

I haven’t been able to find out much on the newer/overnight cases here in Santa Clara County. Although I’m pretty sure 4 of them are San Jose firefighters (read that from KRON4news).

I kind of doubt the others are from the Grand Princess, as I think those being housed locally are in a hotel in San Carlos- which is not Santa Clara County.

If I hear more I’ll be sure to share.

Yes, I believe this is what we'll need to do.

I've been holding on the line with Chase since 10:30 p.m. PST (it's 11:40 p.m. here now) trying to cancel our flight into Chicago O'Hare.

Do you think? The incubation period is two weeks so if we can shut stuff down for a month it can be contained, no? Because it won’t have anywhere to go.

It looks like it’s receding in China. I think if we all do our best now we can contain this, hopefully. We still have a chance.

I agree.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

He issued a statement a moment ago to say that he tested positive for COVID-19 today this afternoon.

"This morning I woke up with a temperature and sore throat," Mr Dutton said in a statement.

omg
can you talk her out of it?
Definitely trying. It’s an exercise in patience. It’s that fine line between asking, pleading, and not making her feel undermined. Where she lives has not been hit particularly hard yet- things are changing quickly and that might open her eyes once the cases start multiplying closer to her. That’s my hope. I mean, not that there are more cases!.... but that she’ll take it more seriously.

So let me get this straight: Dude wakes up in AU with symptoms and not only gets tested but gets results back, THE SAME DAY. While here in the states we only tested 77 people this week?

What’s wrong with this picture. This is shameful.

During the CNN Town Hall, Dr Fauci says we don’t need to worry about being infected by our mail.

Emily Mitchell, from Salt Lake City, is one of many Americans wondering whether the coronavirus can be transmitted through things like mail or money.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, assuaged Mitchell's concern tonight during CNN's coronavirus town hall by saying if the disease were to transfer onto something like mail, it would likely be a low concentration.

"Even if it is on there, would it be high enough of a concentration to actually be transmitted? Although it is important, I don't want to downplay the recommendations of wiping down the kinds of things you can easily wipe down. Doorknobs, screens, things like that. I think if you start thinking about money and mail and things like that, you can almost sort of immobilize yourself, which I don't think is a good idea," Fauci said.

My mother is elderly, and she told me today that her doctor said it’s fine to fly across the country to visit her friend. As long as she washed her hands.

And yet another reminder that not all doctors are created equal..... o_O

It doesn’t make much sense. I really learned that tonight in a horrible episode that made me feel like I killed my whole family. We were eating and I choke coughed. On everyone. It was so quick (I’ve had asthma for several days) that I didn’t have a chance to cover my mouth, which is highly unusual. I was horror stricken. I’ve been so careful.

I’ve calmed down a bit but I’m still worried that I infected everyone.

I’m pretty fastidious to begin with about stuff like that but sometimes it can’t be controlled. So if we are on a plane with someone who coughs like I did and they’re sitting close by, that’s it.

There was something interesting I noticed on the CDC’s website about a report on vaping and made a note in the early threads. It just happened to be released the same day as...anyway I made a note on the possible coincidence (or not)...it is back there in the abyss...

Ps: I vape hash oil so I’m sure that puts me in a higher risk factor.

I’m reading as fast as I can, trying not to pass out...this is a hard read.

Hugs to everyone

You go girl!

Maybe your Mom should listen to Dr Fauci instead!

The US's top infectious disease doctor told CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta Thursday night that he wouldn't get on a plane right now due to the coronavirus outbreak unless absolutely necessary.

"I certainly wouldn't get on a plane for a pleasure trip. It would have to be something that was really urgent," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during CNN’s coronavirus town hall. "My job is the public health. If it had to do with the public health and I needed to do something for the public health, I might do that because I'm quite healthy. However, if it was just for fun — no way I would do it."
"I'm a pretty healthy guy for 79," Fauci added.

I say do not go.
Think about it this way ... you give up seeing family now against the risk of never seeing them again if you die. You are in the high risk category. You are over 60 with health conditions they are warning specifically about. Read the threads some. I think you will quickly see how risky it is.

Yes I’ve been having these discussions in my family. I have an immediate family member who is undergoing intense chemotherapy as we speak (and has been for a while).
