I know. Looks like a lot of kids will just be hanging out at home, alone. I was lucky to have a very wonderful, and responsible daughter. By age 12, she could easily handle her younger siblings.

The government didn't close down daycare. That would be problematic. That is where germs just go to spread everywhere. Kids chewing on toys...

daycares outside of philly are closed for the next 2 weeks as are their schools

It's surreal. I've been preparing for it and playing out all these scenarios in my head. But I frequently reassured myself it would surely never come to this. It makes me afraid for the future and what's still in store. It looks like it can only get worse. Our best bet is to simply stay in our homes (Or yards. I plan to garden). So many things have happened already. I'm afraid of losing those I love. :(
I feel the same. I never imagined it would get this bad.

WASHINGTON

An employee who works in a Washington State prison tested positive for the coronavirus, a spokeswoman for the state prison system said on Friday, in what appeared to be the first reported case of the virus in a person tied to a prison.

The employee last worked at theMonroe Correctional Complex, about 45 minutes from Seattle, on Sunday, and the test came back positive on Thursday. A day earlier, Brad Burkhart, the sheriff in Hancock County, Indiana, said a staff member at the local jail had tested positive for the virus and was quarantining at home, as are two other staff members who had contact with the employee.

I just checked my emails, I had messages from 3 Indiana casinos. One explained how they are sanitary and utilizing extra staff & supplying hand sanitizer stations for guest comfort.” Lol

A well aimed, unprotected sneeze from a possible covid-19 case landed on him during a call
Awful! When did the sneeze catch him? Will he need to be tested again? Tysm and fingers crossed for your family.

Week ago, financial panic but no consistent strategy at federal, state/local level.
Now, obvious panic in many cities & clear system strain. But we are slowly choosing the right policies/action.
Expect TENS of thousands of documented cases by next weekend. DON’T PANIC.

Full disclosure, I’m about 30 pages behind here. Hope to catch up later tonight.

I was in SF today. Bizarre- city bustling as usual. You’d never think anything was going on. I did not see ONE mask. And tons of traffic as usual. I kept thinking about the images we’ve seen of Italy, Wuhan, etc. I wonder what San Francisco will look like in a week.

Santa Clara County public schools finally closed this afternoon. Unreal. 78 cases in our county alone right now and even the schools in West Virginia (zero cases) showed more leadership! Let’s just say Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office has a formal complaint lodged by MJPeony as of this morning...

@Auntie Cipation, I was happy to hear per national presser that visitors have been limited in nursing homes/retirement communities.

Montana has identified its first four coronavirus cases. That means every state except West Virginia now has a confirmed infection.

A week ago, fewer than half of states had reported positive tests.

But it is important to know that for the majority of US cases, it is unlnown how the person caught the virus so these cases are likely to be “community transmission” - person to person speed within the US Tracking Every Coronavirus Case in the U.S.: Full Map

Given US person to person spread around country, we need large scale social distancing interventions to try to slow this disease down, as has worked in Asia. These measures starting to happen in US but still only piecemeal. Will need to happen on large scale all around country

It is kind of scary just how fast COVID-19 spread around the globe in random areas then blossoming in certain countries, like Italy.

I just received an email from Taco Bell. They are emphasizing how clean their food prep is, they are going to pay employees who are sick and stay home, and they may start just using the drive up, or provide delivery service.

They are also encouraging their other fast food companies to do the same thing.

Wow. Some corporate responsibility.

As of this morning, about 400 Air and Army National Guard professionals in six states - Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Rhode Island and Washington - are providing personnel in support of civil authority at the direction of their governors in response to COVID-19," the National Guard said.

"As other states are requested to support civil authorities, those numbers will change rapidly. By the end of the day we expect that number to approach 1,000," the statement read.

there are people begging. You don’t get paid when laid off, and in many places in right to work states, they’ll fire you to not pay unemployment. No one I know has a month of paid sick leave. You can’t work from home for many jobs. I work from home every day. I earned that. We deal with credit cards and personal info. My company simply does not have anywhere near enough virtual based equipment to send our 8400 office workers home to work either . My system is dramatically different than the buildings too: there is training involved.
I thought the house and senate came to an agreement for people that cannot work because they get sick, quarantined, have to take care of a sick family member. Has that changed in the last couple hours?

By the way, yesterday I posted about all of the concerts going on, parade, plays...I put a comment under the "Community Events" in the newspaper, that it was absolute madness to advertise or attend these events when our governor declared a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus.

And today, in the same paper, there is a notice, that every single event was cancelled.
