NPR just reported that the government is currently debating increasing food stamps for families who are in need, to decrease the need of people to gather to get their kids their school lunches and breakfasts. Another strategy they’re discussing is delivering school lunches at bus stops to the kids who get the free lunches.

It passed the House and is now being debated in the Senate.

I posted earlier, some VA schools are busing kids to the school for a one hour lunch. Don't make sense.

I heard something third hand that is one positive from this mess. A friend’s co-worker’s wife works at a clinic. They usually have @ 7 cases of the flu each day during the season. That number has plummeted. The reason they believe it has dropped is because people are now washing their hands more!

I felt that was some good news in the middle of all this.

Or can people not get in for a test, are they told to stay home? Or just afraid to venture out?
A few days ago a friend of mine had an earache & stopped at a clinic, he opened the door & ended up not even entering, deciding it best to ride his earache out. He was afraid to be in the waiting room for an extended period with so many sick people.

I need to be more mindful of letting spray dry completely on my kitchen counters. That is the one place that I'm not sure I am letting it dry completely. Emphasis on completely.

Cray cray. Our schools handed lunches out in the parking lot, so same thing. If someone couldn’t get to the lot, lunches were delivered. Moo

Stay home: I predict a baby boom in 9 months. :p

Hoarding: At least people are buying and providing economic stimulus.:D

The number of domestic violence cases reported to local police in Hubei province, in China, has nearly tripled in February after many people were quarantined in January due to the virus.

Domestic violence experts anticipate that rates and severity of abuse will surge as public officials and communities try to stem the spread of coronavirus through imposing restrictions or asking individuals to “social distance” or “self-isolate.”

While these measures are unlikely to turn anybody into an abuser, people who already have violent partners will now be trapped at home with them — and facing the anxiety of losing their jobs and incomes, which also tends to increase the possibility of domestic violence.

For any victims and survivors who need support, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7, every day. Call 1-800-799-7233 or 1-800-799-7233 for TTY, or if you’re unable to speak safely, you can log onto thehotline.org or text LOVEIS to 22522.

Toilet paper litters roadside on Arkansas highway
UNUSUAL STORIES

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Thousands of feet of toilet paper littered the roadside on Interstate 49 near the Razorback Road Exit in Fayetteville on Friday.

TOILET PAPER UPDATE: I found toilet paper! Not where you expect though. An apparent “Roll over”. Roll over here… Roll over there… ‍♂️. I-49 southbound at exit 60. pic.twitter.com/X8gq81dHB8

I’m self employed so if I don’t work I don’t get paid. I’m not sure what a LOA is. I have messaged my doctor to get a note stating I am high risk and should avoid courthouses (do court call rather than appear). But now she wants me to schedule an appointment to talk about the note. Which is concerning.

I was able to get a couple upcoming hearings for next week scheduled as court call hearings. But the problem is one is could become an evidentiary hearing (evidence presented) and if I’m not there I can’t examine any documents. Judge said I will not be able to get a continuance based on my inability to view documents presented.

However, I can still object based on hearsay and lack of foundation without seeing the docs (also, I have a good idea of what he’s going to try to present). And my client, who also has asthma and will be appearing telephonically with me, is in favor of court call as well despite the risk of not being able to see his documents.

LOA leave of absence.

I don't guess that would apply for self employed. I know some self employed have business insurance that will cover monthly expenses and salary. My close friend had this and it paid all expenses and salary for two full years.

Being cooped up is a danger for a lot of households. I worry about DV becoming widespread.
People are irate for their own reasons, some over basketball game cancellation, some over school closings, fear, etc. Add fuel (alcohol & drugs) and bad things will happen. Moo

France to close most shops, cafes, restaurants and cinemas

France will shut down cafes, shops, restaurants and cinemas to stem the spread of the coronavirus outbreak, prime minister Éduoard Philippe has announced.

Philippe said public transport will be kept open but asked citizens to limit their use, reported Reuters news agency.

The closures will come into effect at midnight on Saturday.

He told a news conference that exceptions on the shop ban would include food stores, pharmacies and gas stations.

That's been the strangest part...there was so much hand soap in every single store I went to. Are people not washing their hands and just relying on sanitizer? I have a few little bottles in my car and my purse, but I only use them when I can't get to a sink.

When I was preparing last I had a moment of "Oh no, I have to buy bar soap!" And then I remember the soft soap dispenser by every sink in our house, and the jug and half of refill liquid in our laundry room. But yeah, I would see shelves empty of sanitizer sitting next to shelves full of soap.

France has announced it is closing all cafes, shops, restaurants and cinemas - Sky News U.K
I am glad they took this step. We can’t expect people to stay home if entertainment venues remain open. The logic then becomes “if Covid is so bad, why is _______open.”

Coronavirus: Chaos as shelves 'cleared like a riot' as shoppers mass buy during outbreak

Question for those of you with school-age children: Are extracurricular activities like dance, gymnastics, swimming, sports, martial arts, etc. lessons being canceled?
