if there's nothing on the shelves, you won't be able to order it online either - those services shop at the same grocery stores

I did check Amazon last night and they are out of stock on toiler paper and hand sanitizer.

I'm so sorry! A friend posted a suggestion to our local FB and it was that the community buy gift cards/certificates from our local small businesses so that the business gets the money NOW but the patrons don't have to worry about using them until later when things get back to "normal" (whatever that is). Is that something you could do?
That is a GREAT idea!!! I've been wondering how to support some local places when I really don't need anything from them right now, but I want them to still be there when this all blows over.

I am going to buy gift cards to use later - thank you!!

The fecal/oral risk of transmission concerns me more than
other transmission routes. Gag. Went thru the Hep’ in restaurant for two years in my area. At least the news named the establishments! Iirc, all involved lax hand washing by employees. Moo
If it’s less crowded there maybe it’s better. My concern is eating out. I don’t know who is coughing or breathing onto my food or utensils. But my health status is the concern for me.

So here in Michigan schools are closed until April.

All Michigan K-12 schools to close for 3 weeks due to coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

Most events have been canceled near me as well as libraries closed, museums, rec center, municipal golf courses, etc....

All closed until April 5th. Tell me this...what do you guys think is going to happen on April 5th? IMHO, I feel we will be at the peak of this illness. What made April 5th this magic date?

Also, even if things are on the downside and things start opening, my elderly parents and my high risk husband will still need to isolate. Probably more than ever! So for me, there is no possible way April 5th means anything.

2 or 3 weeks of food? We will need 2-3 months of food to safely isolate. At least.
Help me here. A panic attack is setting in.

I was hoping that we can get a vaccine fast tracked so that we can start inoculating sooner rather than later. If people can get vaccinated starting in May, do you think we can get a handle on this?
I would be stunned if we have a vaccine in May....at best December. The 1918 Spanish flu ended a year later as those that were infected either died or developed immunity. We are not certain that immunity can occur for covid19.

They’re also talking about delivering the food directly to the kids via the bus system. That could work.
Yes, but city kids don't necessarily take a school bus, ykwim?

In my city, there are mobile units that hand out lunches in the summer to anyone under 18, no questions asked. They are stationed at all pools, some parks, etc. Perhaps those can be put into service now.

The US government is expanding its European travel ban to include Britain and Ireland, as it seeks to contain the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe.

Donald Trump originally exempted Britain and Ireland from his 30-day ban on travellers from 26 European countries that took effect at midnight on Friday.

The new travel restrictions on Britain and Ireland will go into effect on Monday evening at midnight, US vice-president Mike Pence said in a White House press conference.

The magic date IMO is a date they thought the public could handle. IMO, I don't think they will finish the school year, although I'm hopeful some pockets are less impacted.

As we prepare our pantries and personal hygiene supplies, please prepare for your mental health too, my dear WS friends.

Get outside if you can, even if it's just sitting on your front step or in your yard. Walk o the end of the driveway or around the block if you're nervous about venturing further than that. If you have a park nearby, go. The outdoors can refresh your spirits.

Spend time doing something you enjoy - cooking, reading, puzzles....whatever! I know all of us here love our WS threads, but take some breaks. Netflix, youtube, social media, etc are great for at-home entertainment, but also think about changing the pace of what you do as this situation goes on.

We're likely in this for the long haul, so prepare.

Mental health is just as important as TP and it's worth thinking about and planning for.

(I am not a professional. Just my opinion only. I care about our WS community.)

I have a twenty-seven pound Boston Terrier. Taking him for a walk is like trying to walk a small, uncooperative tank. And it's not like I don't have tons of experience training dogs and horses. He was an adult when we got him through a Boston Terrier rescue group. He is a lovely dog with some very bad habits.

So today I decided to start training him to walk on a loose lead on the sidewalk outside our house. It gets us outside, and, who knows, maybe I will be able to take him on a real walk someday.

Lol, So cute. Not!
A young gal up the road from me just stopped by to borrow a bridle. I asked her if she’s taking precautions. She said “no, I thought only sundowners had to.”
Apparently on social media, teenagers have nicknamed covid-19 as the Boomer Remover

social media is nuts

Please be careful about buying gift cards, I have 2 that I wasn't able to use because the business closed (not from coronavirus, just loss of business). A lot of restaurants are closing, and they don't honor a gift card already bought.

Henry, that is what my husband said. To avoid more pandemonium, a bite sized date was set. I agree. I just had to see what folks thought here. I always think the worst. This time all of my thinking the worst came true.

Heh! Maybe she's out peddling her stash. :) I'm not sure why folks are buying so much tp. It's a repiratory illness. Diarrhea isn't one of the symptoms.

Coronavirus: Symptoms of COVID-19

Not everyone with a SARS-CoV-2 infection will feel unwell. It’s possible to have the virus and not develop symptoms. When symptoms are present, they’re typically mild and develop slowly. The most common symptoms are:
Some people with COVID-19 may sometimes experience additional symptoms, such as:

At least your governor had the guts to post the names & addresses of places that had transmission. I think 04/05 to be a reassessment date.

Those "boomer" remarks are infuriating. The comments are just as stupid as racist or sexist remarks.

(And isn't it everyone's goal to actually be part of the older generation someday?!)

Ageism is not funny.

Great ideas!

I am adoring the Charley Harper jigsaw puzzles I bought. He is a fabulous artist and it is a delight to work on these puzzles and get to admire his immense talent and imagination.

This one is a real challenge, despite being "only" 500 pieces. I love being able to discover each one of these little portraits as the pieces come together.
