In the hours after the president’s remarks, Google officials distanced themselves from the project, directing question to Verily, where a spokeswoman said the company was merely “in the early stages of development.” The 1,700 engineers Mr. Trump mentioned were actually just Google employees who said a day earlier that they would be happy to volunteer their time on the project if needed.

Now, with Google executives eager to show they are working with the president, the company is racing to meet the promise even as they acknowledge that the debut of the website will be far more limited than Mr. Trump has suggested. A person familiar with the project said Verily was planning to start on Monday with a website that could direct people in the San Francisco Bay Area to as many as three virus testing locations.

Trump Oversold a Google Site to Fight Coronavirus
That's funny.....CNN and NYT are quite good at covering their mistakes as if there is some kind of conspiracy. IMO, they are always on a witch hunt, of anybody.
Not a fan, but, was happy NYT took down their paywall.

Elbow bumps to the thread, and many thanks to you all for the great conversations.

Tonight, the digital "Amber Alert" signs on the 15N all say:

"Covid 19
LEss is more
Avoid gatherings"

Yeah. It was a shock. My friends won't leave their houses. My stores have empty shelves. No flour. No cat food. No milk or water or paper anything. I heard all of the casinos in LA are closing!

I'm scared, more of the changes that are coming than the virus. Big changes. My fat and lovely life, with everything I want and need instantly available, free to travel where I choose, and when, trusting my safety in the world ...all hanging by the thinnest thread of...well.

You know.
I think it really hit me.
Neon words on a freeway at 65 mph, x 5:
Less is more. Avoid gatherings. Covid19.
Yikes.
My friend, life has always been this fragile....we just convinced ourselves that it wasn't...

Schools are not closing in Australia will be looked at again friday PM says

he says we are following the UK example and keeping schools open to keep critical workers on the job like nurses and police and doctors so they don't have to be at home looking after their kids

LIVE: Coronavirus cases surge in Australia
Hope he's not trying for herd immunity....that's what it sounds like. The groups he identified are such a small set of the population....

How could you possibly know that?
I agree with you....more likely that this is extremely tough times for small business owners....

Thank you - as my mom would say "it is what it is". Going to get through it - we have to!

I say the same thing! There comes a point that we’ve done all we can do and have no more control and then “It is what it is.” And “The only way through is through.” I hope your Mom’s surgery goes well. That’s major.

In US, breaking quarantine is punishable with $1000 fine and/or a year in jail.
Well, Heck !.........I need that money for more toilet paper, and I am still too "young and pretty" to spend time in jail..........moo

Thanks for the stats.

So we always, every year, have many hospitalizations and deaths for the flu.

I hope that this corona virus comes up short when compared to the flu. JMO

I hope so too. But it’s early. And we don’t have immunity. So I guess those saying we need to shut things down were right.

I mean that was the rate since October 1. Here in the US we’ve only been dealing with this for about a month and a half. Almost two.

My family who were blithely standing shoulder to shoulder in crowds on the streets of Seville to watch the beginning of the Easter season processions ten days ago are now saying the following to me:

“Cousin, they (Americans) have to do what we are doing here. Close absolutely everything, everything, except pharmacies and supermarkets and have people only go out only when necessary.”

And:

“They have to react BEFORE this spreads, in order to prevent the numbers we have here.”

Big change in a couple weeks.

NBA: Detroit Pistons player tests positive for coronavirus - CNN

(CNN)A third NBA player tested positive for coronavirus Saturday, according to a statement from the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons have not named the player, but he has been under the care of the team's medical staff and in self-isolation since Wednesday night, the statement said.

There would still be other contact methods, it can linger on surfaces, for one, and the feces/oral transmission, also inhaling droplets from a rogue sneeze or cough would not require ten minutes, imo.

Exactly.

I heard 15 minutes in an enclosed space. But that’s just standing there. Not having some dingbat cough in your face.

What is the R 0 number for this virus? I don’t fully know what the term means but I heard it means how contagious it is. How many people one person can be assumed to infect. Like the Spanish flu had an R 0 of about 1.4-2.8. The number is accurate if there’s no containment and no prior immunity due to vaccine or many people having had the disease already in the area. COVID19 would have an R0 number because it’s new. There’s no immunity.

“R0 tells you the average number of people who will catch a disease from one contagious person. It specifically applies to a population of people who were previously free of infection and haven’t been vaccinated. If a disease has an R0 of 18, a person who has the disease will transmit it to an average of 18 other people, as long as no one has been vaccinated against it or is already immune to it in their community.”
What Is R0? Gauging Contagious Infections
I found this yesterday...

Yeah & Idk why anyone finds it appropriate to cough in anyone’s space but it happened before & gonna keep on happening.
A friend of mine was at an IN casino last night, she said more people were walking around coughing than not. Of course a lot smoke so hard to know if their symptoms are from smoking or....
Then the lines at airports....omg, no social distancing going on in Chicago. I’d leave my luggage before I’d stand there 6+ hours.
