I fully expect for epicenters, notice the (s), to be locked down before this is over....Settle, NYC, and San Francisco..IMO. we will go the way of Europe since we missed opportunities for the way of China or South Carolina. Watch them....
In many ways I hope you are right.... it has been agonizing for me/my family to keep having to make all of these individual assessments and decisions about where each of us can go, what each of us can do. There is no guidance really (aside from public health dept “suggestions” of crowds less than 35).

Life is still just going on as normal for many others around here and it’s SO stinkin’ hard to completely self-isolate my entire large family unless everyone else is forced to. When you/your kid has to go to your kids’ ball game or they get kicked off the team (just a few days ago even!!! Before sports were finally suspended ), it makes it really hard to pause all outside life without very negative repercussions in some cases. If the govt put everyone on lockdown it would be easier in a way.

Until that happens it’s currently “death by 1,000 agonizing decisions” over here for us.

Yes. I'm 45 and I play Candy Crush on my phone. Don't judge lol.

When I start playing a message comes up from them it says "Wash your hands and stay safe!"

I'm sorry if I sound vain during this serious situation but I think feeling good about how we look can only help us to get through each day. I think this is a perfect time for us ladies to try some of the hair styles we were afraid to try before.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how my skin reacts to no makeup for an extended time. I typically don't wear much on my skin (just a sunscreen and tinted moisturizer) but I think my pores will enjoy the break anyway. And supposedly it's not good to wash your hair every day but I always do because it's necessary after the gym (and I'm also prone to oily hair), so this might be an opportunity to try the "every other day" hair washing routine. Trying to look for positives! :)

UK....VENTILATORS

Matt Hancock has called on British manufacturers to consider switching parts of their production to the making of medical ventilators needed to treat rising numbers of coronavirus patients.

The health secretary said on Sunday the UK had 5,000 ventilators but needed many more times that number. Hancock said “anyone who can” should “turn their engineering minds and production lines to making them … We need to produce more.”

Hancock claimed on the Andrew Marr Show that the government was in discussion with “all kinds of companies”, including car manufacturers and military engineers. Rolls-Royce, JCB and Unipart were all expected to speak to the prime minister on a conference call, according to a report in the Sunday Telegraph.

The Smithsonian Channel also has a good documentary in their "America's Hidden Stories" series about the 1918 Pandemic.
And TV guide tells me this is on tonight at 10 eastern

I bought weights so I can start doing my workout routine at home instead of going to the gym. Shall we take bets on whether they will still have the tags on them once this is all behind us??:D

I’m thinking the case numbers are much higher than reported. My neighbor called the health department because her daughter had a high fever, a cough, and was lethargic. Other family members have headaches and sore throats. They told her that, symptomatically speaking, she should be tested but since her husband had only flown to California and not hot spots like Italy or China, they can’t test because they have so few test kits.

I’m trying to explain to my dog that we need to ration the dog treats. He’s not understanding.

I am having the same problem with my cats.

It's all on the PBS American Experience Influenza 1918. I wish every school showed this in science or history class. It's primarily important because people can learn so much from the experiences of the survivors as well as the history of the virus itself which is explained throughout. It was mandatory for us in microbiology but why not everyone and not just people going into college STEM programs.

There are a number of documentaries available to watch on YouTube about the 1918 event. So many parallels to today. One major difference was the incredibly fast infection to death timeframe. Some woke up with their first symptoms and were dead that evening People were collapsing, dead on the streets.
As of right now, this pandemic is "invisible" to such an extent that it's easier for some to base their actions only on what is happening within a small circle of their daily lives.
Perhaps it will the death of someone famous to make it "real " IMO

Use them. You'll feel better to stay in shape. I have them plus a bench and also an elliptical and I use them all the time when I can't get to the gym, and if I can't walk outside.

You can still leave the tags on while using them.

errr, that should read
FEWER Contacts
FEWER Probabilities
If you can count it, use FEWER.
Times may be rough but let's not let our English go to HE11.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Ha...predicting that will become "less" important in a pandemic....:D

Forget the weights. We have all those cans of food we stocked up on. Put them in socks and tie them to your ankles and wrists.

I was all excited that I was able to get bacon.

Yesterday I carefully rationed a few slices and set the package down on the counter.

I’m realizing that it got hidden behind a big pot and I have to chunk it now.

Boooo.

Guys.

I can not express the importance of rationing right now.

Another highly important tip for new members joining here is to get your prescriptions refilled for 90 days (or whatever the max is) if you can, moo.

ETA: you know what’s wild? I’ve already started dropping weight. I’m down to one meal a day, not only due to rationing:

The first week, as you know I gained weight because I was stuffing my face with tater tots, beer, ice cream, trail mix because suddenly I had a bunch of food and treats in my fridge I wasn’t used to having. And the anxiety made me eat.

Now I’m too emotionally sick to eat sometimes.

Friday, I kept having to remind myself to eat meals. I can count on the fingers of both hands the times I have been too upset to get hungry in my life.

Curran noted that Friday New Rochelle had launched the state’s first drive-thru testing facility, and she was looking forward to replicating that. On Saturday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that Jones Beach was being looked at as a possible drive-thru testing site.

“I am confident that drive-thru testing is not too far in our future,” Curran said.

Curran added that officials are in discussions with hospitals about possibly setting up tents for testing.
