Yep. Right there with you and I don't even go to bars. Apparently the California Governor just did the same thing to us.

If that’s the case, then shut down everything! Lockdown all employment, all postal services, grocery and drug stores, Everything! Do not single out an industry that has not been proven to have spread anything. How about shutting down travel? That seems to be the only unifying fact in the spread between states. This makes me angry, and distrustful of Fauci .

Fl. gov. DeSantis in press conf. now-
Big problem w/ spring breakers on beaches in
large numbers and packed bars and restaurants.
But he won't make any changes til he talks to CDC on Monday. He thinks CDC will make suggestions to deal with this.

eyeroll emoji, here. The governor can act now, on his own.

NY - NYC Mayor to consider lockdown

https://nypost.com/2020/03/15/bill-de-blasio-considers-nyc-lockdown-as-coronavirus-cases-jump/

Quotes from article:

New York City’s coronavirus cases have skyrocketed in less than a week from 25 on Monday to 269 Sunday as Mayor Bill de Blasio considers locking down the Big Apple to contain the outbreak.

“Every option is on the table in a crisis,” de Blasio said Sunday morning on CNN.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

The mayor did not say what a lockdown would entail, but he detailed the powers he has to shut down the city when he declared a state of emergency last week.

“So there’s the ability to establish a curfew. There’s the ability to regulate whether vehicles or individuals may enter or leave specific parts of the city. There is the ability to close down public transportation,” de Blasio said at a press briefing on March 12.

“There’s the ability to order hospitals to postpone elective procedures, to ration supplies or impose restrictions on supplies and prices – and price gouging,” he said.

He can even “suspend or limit alcohol use, firearms, explosives, flammable material and liquids.”

Finally, the declaration enables the mayor to bar people from being on the streets or in public places, create emergency shelters, and limit maximum building occupancy.

“These are some of the examples. So they’re very extensive capacity,” the mayor said last week.

De Blasio expects the city’s coronavirus tally to rise to 1,000 in the next few days.

“It’s changing every hour so we’re going to constantly make new decisions,” de Blasio said about the dynamic public health emergency.

He also called on the Trump Administration to assume a war-time footing.

“We need the federal government to take over the supply chain right now,” he said.

“Right now we have to make sure the places in this country that need more ventilators, surgical masks, they need hand sanitizers, that that is a federalized dynamic where those factories that produce those goods are put on 24/7 shifts,” de Blasio said.

I had to take a break so I'm just now seeing your reply which part of it has left me confused.

I'm not sure what you mean about it not costing the taxpayers a dime. You were saying those at risk, and elderly must take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for themselves. I didnt see anything in your post that mentioned taxpayers picking up the tab nor did I mention it or even think of it in my previous reply.

Most of the elderly who live in their homes are self sustaining financially, and not costing the taxpayers a dime.

They weren't advising others to pay to protect the elderly, but just do common sense things that may make it easier for them if they cant get out or shouldn't at this time. And making sure they follow the hygiene guidelines set forth so that all around the elderly at risk are being protected along with protecting themselves.

My hubby, and I both fit the category of elderly, which is anyone over the age of 60 with this virus, and I have an underlying condition now that just developed out of the blue two weeks ago. We have a great family support system with 5 children, grandchildren, and many dear friends.

We are doing fine on our own. If we must go out we make sure to wear masks to protect us, and protect all others that may be around us.

We do not want to ever jeopardize the health of anyone including our family members. We know people the age of our children are also getting this virus, and tragically some of those who have died from it were not in the elderly age group, but younger.

So all of us are being respectful of each other, and honoring the social distancing as recommended along with the advice to have excellent hygiene inside, and out of our homes which we were already doing.

So far no one we know has the virus, but we know that can change instantly. Our area does have those who have the virus. In fact one is in ICU. Shes in her early 50s, but shes a cancer patient.

We are also providing needed products, and food to other elderly neighbors by leaving it by their door. Our next door neighbors are both very sickly, and at high risk so we have been doing everything we can to make sure they do not have to go out.

Thank God my hubby is a very healthy 74 year old. He runs the errands that must be done for us, and surrounding neighbors. Of course he takes all necessary precautions to be safe, and to ensure those around him are also safe.

Everyone at this time of crisis should be all in doing their part.

Its heartbreaking to know those in nursing homes have been the centers of some of the virus outbreaks. Imo, even at the end of their life they arent being cared for properly, but that was happening even before this even happened in many towns, and states.

I care about each, and every citizen in our great country no matter who they are.

I know if we can overcome this nightmare it will be because of the millions of good citizens who did everything in their power to do their part.

Jmhoo

Oh. It was a short post. It cost the taxpayers nothing ensuring everyone in the neighborhood has what they need. Neighbors helping neighbors. We paid, the neighbors paid, and didn’t rely on any agency to take care of our older friends. We’ve been through just how fema helped. Not. Our neighborhood group isn’t just about stray dogs and stuff. Personal responsibility doesn’t mean you don’t help other, you need to keep yourself safe and reach out if you need anything. The great people in my county donate all year to the Squads that bring out necessities t0 those who need.

CT - New COVID Case Announced 3/15/2020:

ECSU faculty member tests positive for coronavirus

Quotes from article:

Officials at Eastern Connecticut State University said Sunday that a faculty member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials said, "Federal health privacy law prohibits the University from releasing the name of the person involved.
We ask all students, faculty, and staff to continue to self-monitor their own health while practicing social distancing and healthy personal hygiene as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html"

The school is closed through April 5.

Is the university closed for all staff or just for faculty and students? At my university, only faculty and students are off campus but staff and administrators are at work during the "closure." Just wondering.

What is the point of getting tested? If I have the flu, why should I go get tested? Stay home, hunker down, drink OJ.

Just asking.

Gov. also mentioned he has activated the Fl.
National Guard and will have them convene in
Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale area) where
there is an active community spread cluster
growing every day.
Wonder if he will sic them on the spring breakers? He's planning something here.

Twitter (Video from State of The Union Interview)
OH Gov. Mike DeWine: "It would not surprise me at all if schools did not open again this year."

No, no, no, please no. Young people need to be in school. They need to be doing experiments and group projects, they need that in-the-moment, face-to-face instruction and social learning. It will be too sad if students don't get to come back, however good the reason :(

ETA - some students are lucky to have parents who are teachers, or parents wealthy enough to hire teachers to work with them. What about the rest?
I live in Ohio (Hancock county) and effective tonight at 9pm ALL restaurants and bars are closed for dine in...some may stay open for carry out and pick up. My children are not happy about no school. I told myself I would not freak out or over react but now I am a little. Gas is $1.77 and almost all shelfs are empty.

@tabitha111 Your post was terrifying but much the same as what my daughter and friends are telling me about the situations in their hospitals. My daughter sent me a pic of her in protective gear. She had a mask and a face shield that does not cover past her nose, the gown does not go up past her shoulders so neck is completely exposed. Unless soiled by bodily fluids they have to wear the same mask and gown for the entire shift. They are not allowed to double glove or double shoe protectors. She works in ICU and they are certain they have 2 cases just waiting on confirmation.

I am terrified for her and all the other nurses and doctors. They are facing an enemy they cannot see or contain and fighting a war without proper ammunition.
I would recommend that she call the local health department and tell them what is happening in her facility.
If she is leaving an infected patient's room, she has to remove the contaminated gear. These are CDC guidelines. Is she staying with the patient for the whole shift? Re-using the contaminated gear is not acceptable per isolation precautions.

CDC updates guidance on PPE for health care personnel; COVID-19 declared a pandemic

Coronavirus Updates - Eastern

This is the last bulletin from the School:

Update #9, March 12, 2020

(Issued by President Nunez on March 12, 2020)

In consultation with public health officials and in keeping with Governor Ned Lamont’s directive that state and private employees should begin working from home whenever possible, Mark Ojakian, President of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System, has directed all CSCU campuses to temporarily implement telecommuting plans.

At Eastern, I have asked the vice presidents to work with their staffs to determine what core campus functions are essential to our operations and what staff members must continue to report to work. Those functions where a campus presence is required should have employees work on a scaled-down or rotating basis wherever possible. While we will remain open, everyone except those necessary to maintain basic campus services will be asked to stay at home, telecommuting with the approval of their supervisor, beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, and extending through at least April 5, 2020.

Full-time and hourly employees will continue to be paid during this time. Individual department heads have been asked to determine which employees can work remotely from home. We are in the process of making sure that employees who can work from home have computers and other necessary equipment to perform their job functions. In addition, effective at the close of business, Friday, March 13, 2020, all buildings are closed to members of the public not affiliated with Eastern.

Please continue to follow guidance regarding healthy habits as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)). Practice personal hygiene; stay clear of with people who are sick; avoid unnecessary social contact/large gatherings; and consult your physician should you become ill.

We will continue to communicate directly with the campus community as necessary during this public health emergency. For all Eastern communications and related information on the Coronavirus, visit Coronavirus Updates - Eastern.

I am extremely grateful for the support and cooperation I have received from members of the Eastern community. Thank you for continuing to work together to ensure a healthy campus for all.

Sincerely,

Elsa M. Núñez

President

In Las Vegas, almost every show has gone dark. The occupancy rate at the MGM is, 3%.

Stores can't keep things on the shelves, as soon as a flat comes out to stock up the shelves, people grab stuff off of the flat. Empty shelves all over the store.

OKLAHOMA

CORONAVIRUS: OKC-County Health Department holds news conference amid COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak
Mayor David Holt on Sunday declared a state of emergency for Oklahoma City amid the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

[...]

On Sunday, state Health Department officials announced that three more Oklahomans had tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, increasing the state's total to seven. The three new cases were confirmed in Cleveland County, Payne County and Tulsa County.

During Sunday's news conference, Holt said the confirmed case of the coronavirus in Cleveland County is locally spread. As part of the state of emergency, Holt said the city is restricting public gatherings of 50 people in city facilities.

Just asking.
The point of being tested is so that the public health agencies can notify people you have been in close contact with, ask them to self isolate thus stopping the chain of infection you may have created. It's simply trying to control the spread so our healthcare system can handle the number of people who may need ICU care.
