My great grandmother and grandparents raised me. My great grandmother was born in 1897. They had a sick room designated in the house: even when I was a kid in the 60s. Not a bad idea now either. If we had an at risk person living here while the rest of us had to go out, there would be one here as well

And some news out of my province- people are now restricted from visiting long term care and community care facilities, and healthcare is moving towards being essential services only.

I saw on a news report that people are still checking on loved ones in nursing homes, etc. They were looking in the windows and talking to them on phones. Some brought fold up chairs and sat outside the windows smiling and waving letting them know they aren't forgotten.

Took my dog to petsmart this morning. One of the cashiers told me they had higher sales Friday than the did on black Friday.

I'm sorry for you. That must be so hard being that far away from them. . Good they have family in the area.

I called my mom today. She is 86, lives with and takes care of my medically challenged younger brother, still goes to the grocery story (wearing her newly purchased rubber gloves, proudly, and which she bought a pair for me too), and takes my bro to his PT and dozens of dr. appts for whatever's up with him any given week.

I offer help constantly - to shop for her, etc. Needless to say, I may have to go over there, tie her up and bring her back to my house. I'm that fearful for her.

If I wasn't so afraid of bringing illness to Mom and Dad, I'd be on my way there now. They've helped me my whole life and I feel so helpless not being able to help them more.
Bless your mom...she sounds like a strong woman! She's also very lucky to have you looking out for her!

A brewing pub a few towns away has announced on its website that it's taking drastic steps to sanitize and is providing a wash station of a bleach solution and rags for those wanting to clean their area again...

It's a popular place with some great brews so I hope it can sustain itself through the pandemic. A small group of us hold an Irish/Scottish/Cape Breton music session there once a month. Those who are local are planning on attending today's session but my husband and I decided to pass. And no St. Patrick's Day gig for us at a different bar either as that one usually ends up with people elbow to elbow.

I make Shepherd's Pie once a year and will make it on Tuesday. Ground lamb, mushrooms, peas, carrots, and onion in rich Guinness-laced gravy topped with mashed potatoes and Irish cheddar cheese. It's delicious and worth the effort

I can't find that quoted anywhere, but doesn't that mean until at least January 2021??

We have one son still living with us as he works and continues his education. We have the same worries. In a local social media platform people were discussing precautions and one post made fun of everyone and responded that if he contracted the coronavirus that he would personally wipe his hands all over every business in town. That attitude is appalling. (I'm glad our markets have auto opening doors). I truly think he was just being a jerk and incredibly immature, but it gives me pause for concern sometimes.

I have read tens of thousands of similar posts, not on FB, but in the comments section of online articles.
The best thing for anyone with concerns is to stay home, imo.

I recognize the care and fright for our parents. I am 71, however I don’t wish my son to be fearful for me because it is “ his duty”. I am so happy that many of us live beyond the years our ancestors did, however, I love life, but don’t fear death. Part of my religion I guess, but in death, I will be OK. I know my son agrees. Hope you can find a balance between care and caregiving, and the difference between the two.

I have a question about what we do about posting the deaths of people. Do we post any stories with photos and information of those who have tragically died of this virus? Is it going to be too distressing and overwhelming for all us to see that information constantly when we come here? I totally understand if it is.

It is very sadly going to be very difficult to keep up with the number of deaths as the toll keeps rising in our various countries. I just wondered what your thoughts are on this. I don’t want to cause anyone anymore additional distress as I know we are all worried sick.

West Virginia remains only state without positive case of coronavirus

This is really concerning. W VA has a horrible opioid crisis. Perhaps the highest of any state. I think a large population that should see a doctor won’t, due to fear of hospitalization/forced withdrawal, if they test positive.
No way Covid 19 is not in W VA, imo.

He likely meant the 19/20 calendar school year which would mean the remained of the school year until summer break begins.

They are also anticipating an internet overload based on the number of students e-learning while school buildings are closed.
