New Orleans Police To Bourbon Street Partiers: You're Jeopardizing Public Health | HuffPost

In a now-viral video posted on Twitter, police cars are seen moving slowly through the popular tourist spot and imploring partiers to go home.

“By order of the governor and the mayor, large crowds of people are prohibited from congregating together. Your actions are jeopardizing public health and we are directing you to clear the streets and to go home or back to your hotel. Thank you for your cooperation,” an officer said over a loudspeaker as sirens blare.
This reminds me of the people who stayed on the Mississippi coast to party when Hurricane Camille (August 1969) was approaching. They claimed to be safe because they were on the second floor. The storm came in as a Cat 5, and storm surge washed away the first floor and 23 people on the "second" floor drowned.

A hurricane is obviously more immediate with its consequences. This is IMO an example that just illustrates how naive folks can be no matter what.

Gardener, is the honey you use, Manuka honey? I know it can be costly but is well worth it. I take apple cider vinegar and Manuka honey when I do get sick which is rare. Also maybe include some high-powered Vitamin C fruit smoothies. Last fall I got sick and was consuming those smoothies like crazy. Recovered after being sick for 2 days.

Diet does play an important role in health and immunity. I am happy to say I eat quite healthy - 75% of my grocery bill goes towards produce. Plus I love garlic. lol

Never heard of Manuka Honey. I'll have to look into that. I have raw honey from an apiary that is local to me. We have dreams to someday keep our own bees and produce our own honey, but that's far off now with this virus outbreak. We eat fairly healthy too. One thing I regret not stocking more of is frozen fruit for smoothies. I have one lonely package of frozen berries and some canned pineapple. Oh, well. I'm not going to risk going to the stores at this point in time. We are low on fresh produce but we should make it through this week at least. Then I'll try to get a curbside pick up of groceries.

YES. This is a fantastic news conference and I think all of the US should be listening to this.

It's so......refreshingly frank, objective, intelligent, and very very calm.
I think it's still flawed. Without enough testing all their modelling is worthless. They're estimating the infected numbers using the mortality rate which isn't really reliable (IMO).

This is what is occupying my mind right now- how accurate were the age bracket statistics out of China? I’m trying to find breakdowns from Italy but can’t find anything. I’m very concerned that there are many more “younger” people with dangerous outcomes than reported out of China.

(I have nothing to back this up- these are just my own fears.)

I understand the disruption to school children's routine, issues with day care, issues with providing lunch for children in need, missed sports, proms, graduations,etc..I understand all of that but none of those things are permanent situations. It will only last as long as is necessary and most kids are out of school for over two months every summer anyway. Online classes will be made available where possible, I imagine a lot of schools will reschedule graduation ceremonies, have make up proms and sports games. The same way accommodations are made in the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes and mass fires.

Trudeau to announce additional @Bravo his wife is positive for the virus.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is due to address the nation from self-isolation again Monday after a weekend that saw health officials strengthen their tone on COVID-19 as provinces took more drastic measures to stem the virus‘s spread. News of Trudeau’s press conference, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T., came hours after cabinet ministers left a meeting on Sunday promising big action. Some of those same ministers are set to speak to reporters after Trudeau’s address.

Trudeau said Canadians abroad need to come ASAP "while they still can," and will need to self-isolate for 14 days regardless of symptoms.

I'm an entire thread behind, and determined to read all posts.

Was there a reason given for Dr. Mike not at the WHO presser today? And when Dr. Pedros coughed 7 times, I cringed each time.

Frankly, I believe the virus changed as it moved across the globe or multiple introductions in a country impacts more people. Multiple introductions means instead of one patient 0 there are 4 people who brought it in from different places....

We likely will try to get testing, but I'm not sure when. I think my DH's employer may set something up this week to help employees test. I'm still in a bit of denial and hoping we don't have it. One issue is that we don't want to go out and get exposed to it in order to get tested. I'm hoping we can find a drive-up option or a clinic that will come out to our car.

We're strong mentally and spiritually and have a great community to support us. Our church was canceled but our pastor set up a live video feed and gave an very encouraging message today via internet. I spent half of the day in prayer and the rest of the day I slept. I just have low energy. I believe we'll pull through this illness just fine physically. My greatest fears right now are losing loved ones to this virus and not being able to see them again before they pass away (or not even being allowed to travel to their funerals :( ) -- family is spread out in multiple states across the US and multiple family members are recovering from cancer (and therefore high risk). Thank goodness we can facetime but it's not the same as being able to hug them. I keep thinking that we need to take every opportunity to tell your loved ones how much you love them now, as it might be the last chance you get. It seems so over-dramatic to write that, but it's how I feel right now.

MOO.

I hear you. A lot of us share your worries. I'm glad you two are somewhat okay health wise thus far, though. Your strong spirituality and mental health will help!!!
