Dr Brix called on millennials...the group who gathers the most and who communicates the most by technology...to keep groups to 10 or less, even at home and to spread the word. She said they are key to the next 15 days of limitations.

(My notes from news conference)

Coronavirus: Trump says Americans could be hunkered down until summer

“”We’re going to back the airlines 100%,” Trump told a news conference. “It’s not their fault.”

The trade group for most of the largest carriers, Airlines for America, requested $25 billion in grants for passenger airlines, $25 billion in loan guarantees and tax relief for the first three months of the year. The request Monday came after the U.S. blocked air travel from China and most of Europe and after declines in domestic travel because of concerns about the spread of coronavirus.”

I have been thinking about you hourly!! So GLAD to hear!!

It reassures me as well. I’ve been having a dry cough for days, and slight asthma which got worse, since mid-February. And now swollen glands. No fever.

But I found out I had been under medicating with my preventative inhaler and also I stopped using Claritin due to it making me nervous. And I think I’m just having a lot of allergies. I feel pressure in the cavities? around my ears/jaw and post-nasal drip dripping into the back of throat a lot.

But I’m super glad to hear your news. It’s really good to hear. I know you’ve been worried and I know we’ve all been feeling sad for what you’ve been going through.

gitana1,
Thank you for your kind post. If possible please don't under medicate. The preventative inhaler and Claritin might help relieve your dry cough and asthma. I didn't realize we are getting into the allergy season until my nurse mentioned it. Found my Loratadine tables(RX) and plan on taken the medication till the allergy season ends. Finished rummaging through the medicine container at home, came across a RX for Zinc 50mc cap., adding this to my arsenal medicines to take.
Stay safe.

What I want to know is...how are these 15 days of limiting group sizes, etc. going to be communicated to the people who don’t watch the news or keep up on this like we do.

“White House issues new coronavirus guidelines
President Donald Trump issued guidelines on Monday for Americans to follow over the next 15 days to help avoid spread of the novel coronavirus but did not take drastic measures such as imposing a national quarantine or curfew.

The new guidelines call on Americans to avoid social gatherings involving groups of 10 or more.

The guidelines also call for governors in states with evidence of community transmission to close schools in affected and surrounding areas. Bars, restaurants, food courts, gyms and other venues where groups of people congregate should also be closed in states with evidence of community transmission, according to the guidelines.

“Each and every one of us has a critical role to play,” Trump said at a news conference with members of his coronavirus task force.

“If everyone makes these critical changes and sacrifices now, we will rally together as one nation and we will defeat the virus,” he said.”

“Trump: Americans could be hunkered down until summer
President Donald Trump said Americans could be hunkered down and practicing social distancing at least until July or August to confront the coronavirus pandemic.

During a White House briefing on Monday, Trump was asked whether the administration had any estimate of how quickly the country would “turn this corner.” Many Americans have been working from home, and states are increasingly closing schools, businesses and prohibiting large gatherings of people.

“People are talking about July, August -- or something like that,” Trump told reporters, were spaced every other seat in the White House briefing room to practice distancing.

The president did not discuss specific practices that would have to be implement for that long, but the question was posed in terms of the steps that the country is currently taking.

Trump said it could take at least that long until the virus “washes through,” a term he has used before that he acknowledged Monday that some around him don’t like. Reporters pressed Trump on whether the work from home order and closes would be the new normal until the height of the summer.

“They think August, could be July,” Trump said. “Could be longer than that.”

The answer to that question could have enormous implications for not for people’s daily lives but for the economy. The White House and Congress are attempting to approve a first economic bill this week to help offset economic losses and are already contemplating other legislation to target particularly hard industries.”

PSA: Activities to keep busy, healthy and sane (suggestion)

Birding Is the Perfect Activity While Practicing Social Distancing

This is all so surreal, isn't it?

None of us has been through anything quite like COVID-19, the coronavirus outbreak that the World Health Organization this week labeled a global pandemic. At this moment, more than 137,300 cases have been confirmed worldwide, and at least 5,073 people have died. Markets have tanked. Everything's canceled. Precautions that once might have seemed paranoid now feel like common sense.

Here at Audubon, we don’t want to make light of a serious situation. We’re also worried about our loved ones. We’re scared, too.

But may we recommend something that, under the circumstances, might seem trivial?

If you can, go birding.

We know: It might seem exploitative for the Bird People to promote birds during a public health crisis. But there's an argument to be made that—as long as you don't put yourself or others at risk—birding is the perfect thing to do right now.

NIH clinical trial of investigational vaccine for COVID-19 begins
A Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating an investigational vaccine designed to protect against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has begun at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) in Seattle. ...

[...]

The vaccine is called mRNA-1273 and was developed by NIAID scientists and their collaborators at the biotechnology company Moderna, Inc., based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) supported the manufacturing of the vaccine candidate for the Phase 1 clinical trial.

Finding a safe and effective vaccine to prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2 is an urgent public health priority,” said NIAID Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D. “This Phase 1 study, launched in record speed, is an important first step toward achieving that goal.

... As of March 15, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 153,517 cases of COVID-19 and 5,735 deaths worldwide. More than 2,800 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 58 deaths have been reported in the United States as of March 15, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Currently, no approved vaccines exist to prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2.

[...]

The Phase 1 trial is led by Lisa A. Jackson, M.D., senior investigator at KPWHRI. Study participants will receive two doses of the vaccine via intramuscular injection in the upper arm approximately 28 days apart. ...

Participants will be asked to return to the clinic for follow-up visits between vaccinations and for additional visits across the span of a year after the second shot. ...

Trump releases guidelines to slow coronavirus spread in '15 days,' but warns crisis could stretch to summer

““With several weeks of focused action, we can turn the corner and turn it quickly,” Trump said. “Our government is prepared to do whatever it takes.””

[...]

“At another point during the news conference, asked if the U.S. was headed into a recession, Trump replied: “Well, it may be.” But then, he said, “We're not thinking in terms of recession, we're thinking in terms of the virus.””

[...]

“Trump's comments came as Ohio's governor announced his recommendation to delay the state's primary election until June amid the outbreak. The president said that while the state's whose presidential primary elections are being very careful, he thinks postponing elections are "unnecessary."

"Postponing is not a very good thing," he said. "I think postponing is unnecessary.””

ANDREW CUOMO

President Trump: Deploy the Army Corps of Engineers to build temporary medical facilities, so that when hospitals are overwhelmed, we can move people into the temporary facilities.
It’s only a matter of time before our state's ICU beds fill up.
The federal gov't must act.

Andrew Cuomo on Twitter

STAY HOME, SAVE LIVES

He sounds panicked which doesn't help public perception.

Isn't it the job of the military to build field hospitals? The Army Corps of Engineers are civil engineers who design and monitor things such as river levees and dams and they still have their hands full from last year's massive flooding.

Live updates: Trump says outbreak could last months and gatherings should be limited to 10 people
Here are some other significant developments:
  • President Trump told governors Monday that states should work on getting respirators and ventilators, and not wait for the federal government to provide them. The president’s comment was confirmed by multiple officials briefed on the call to governors earlier today.
  • We have not seen an urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing, which is the backbone of the response,” the director general of the World Health Organization said at a news conference.
  • When you look at the projections, there’s every chance that we could be Italy,” the U.S. surgeon general warned Monday. Widespread social distancing could help change that trajectory, he said.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging a nationwide halt to gatherings of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks. About 3,500 coronavirus cases have been reported in the United States, though experts suspect the true number is much higher.
  • More people have died of the coronavirus outside of China than inside, a worrying sign of how quickly the virus has spread beyond the country where it first emerged.
  • U.S. markets plunged, despite the Federal Reserve’s emergency interest rate cut to zero.
I'm sorry I haven't been following this thread, but I have been following the news. I never see this addressed:

Why did Trump turn down the offer from WHO re test kits. About 2 months ago IIRC.

Why can't he just say that NOW we do want the test kits?

Apologies if this has been discussed and answered.

Another question: If Trump can erect near-instantaneous HUGE migrant shelters in the hot sun in Texas, why can't hospital extensions be constructed. In China, IIRC they were building emergency hospitals in less than 2 weeks. How to design a hospital that's built in days, by someone who's done it before - CNN

There's a 'bubble' around the Pentagon chief as the coronavirus spreads — Trump says he hasn't thought about doing the same

“The Pentagon is keeping a "bubble' around senior Department of Defense leadership as the coronavirus spreads across the US, but the White House is not doing the same for the president.

"Starting today, the secretary and the deputy secretary are remaining physically separated," Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman told reporters Monday, explaining that the Department of Defense is "attempting to put a, for lack of a better term, a bubble around the two of them."

All interactions with Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Deputy Secretary of Defense David Norquist are being conducted via teleconference.

[...]

Asked at a press briefing Monday afternoon if he and Vice President Mike Pence plan to do the same, President Donald Trump, standing among a crowd of officials in the White House briefing room, said, "We haven't thought of it."”

I have hidden my Lysol wipe supply in a file cabinet in the garage.
It might be prudent to not have them out and visible in an open garage or through the window right now.
I'd also suggest putting a blanket over the container in the car.
Remember-- do NOT talk on the phone when leaving the grocery store to your car. It leaves you too vulnerable to desperate people that want your pbone, your purse, and your groceries.
Although this is WS and we knew that, RIGHT!?!?

We are in a very looong war. I can relate to this scared soldier.
