That makes a heck of a lot more sense than asking the Army Corps of Engineers to do it.

JMO
He didn't get anywhere with that request...

“Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that while some people may perceive the guidelines as inconvenient or going too far, they reflect a deteriorating assessment of the containment efforts and should be taken seriously.

“When you’re dealing with an emerging infectious diseases outbreak, you are always behind where you think you are if you think that today reflects where you really are. That’s not word speak. It means if you think you’re here,” Fauci said, gesturing to illustrate his point, “you’re really here because you’re only getting the results. Therefore, it will always seem that the best way to address it would be to be doing something that looks like it might be an overreaction. It isn’t an overreaction.”

The White House gave the country a 15-day window to flatten the soaring curve of infection, but some disease modelers see a trajectory that could create a crisis, similar to Italy, that would start to overwhelm the U.S. health care system in about 10 days.”

'It's bad': Trump issues new guidelines to stem coronavirus spread

I wish states (including my own—Oregon) would all implement these new 15 day guidelines so the whole country is on the same page.

He sounds panicked which doesn't help public perception.

Isn't it the job of the military to build field hospitals? The Army Corps of Engineers are civil engineers who design and monitor things such as river levees and dams and they still have their hands full from last year's massive flooding.

JMO
I watched the whole thing live and I didn't get any sense of panic. He spoke slowly and explained things really well and appeared in total control, IMO.

I'm sorry I haven't been following this thread, but I have been following the news. I never see this addressed:

Why did Trump turn down the offer from WHO re test kits. About 2 months ago IIRC.

Why can't he just say that NOW we do want the test kits?

Apologies if this has been discussed and answered.

Another question: If Trump can erect near-instantaneous HUGE migrant shelters in the hot sun in Texas, why can't hospital extensions be constructed. In China, IIRC they were building emergency hospitals in less than 2 weeks. How to design a hospital that's built in days, by someone who's done it before - CNN
I can't answer your first question but there have been hospital "extensions" constructed in the form of tents. Some as isolation units, some triage...

Here is an example: Rush pitches isolation tent to treat coronavirus patients

And another: Amid growing coronavirus cases, hospitals have shared goal: Prevent the spread within their walls

Jack Ma, richest man in Asia (and Chinese) donated 1 million masks and test kits to the US. Unloading in Seattle.

Don't you think our feds should thank him?

Agreed. Like Cuomo said this morning. The rules need to be Federal or else each state does their own thing and it's CHAOS.

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney has outlined a list of proposals to address the coronavirus outbreak, including giving all American adults $1,000 in response to fallout from the spread of the disease. Romney proposes giving $1,000 to every American adult as coronavirus response measure - CNNPolitics

I support that idea but only for those impacted by layoffs or closed businesses. I'd rather see the employees get it and not have it given to the employers as a bail out.

Nah. He's NY tough and so are we. But I agree that the ACE does have their hands full. Still, I imagine it's polite to ask up the chain of command before taking into our own hands. That's NY, too - always have a backup.

Trump is saying he doesn’t expect this to subside before July/August!!!:(

I was hoping that I could hunker down and not go out until this thing was over, but July or August? There is no way that I can go that long without some resupplying. So I guess there will be a real chance to get infected. Everyone except maybe the hardcore preppers is probably facing the same thing. I was planning to eliminate any chance of exposure but I guess that is not going to be possible.

That pretty much describes it. CHAOS.

I believe those are the cards we are dealt. Hopefully he is communicating with other Governors....

My man friend(too old to be a boyfriend) just came from the grocery store- he was at 2 he said "there is no meat, what is going on? Are humans lions or what?" I had no answer for that I am not much of a meat eater.

“Over the next 15 days, Trump said all Americans are advised to educate kids from home when possible, avoid discretionary travel, avoid gathering in groups of 10 or more, and avoid eating and drinking in public places like bars, restaurants and food courts.

“If everyone makes this change or these critical changes and sacrifices now, we will rally together as one nation and we will defeat the virus,” Trump said. “With several weeks of focused action we can turn the corner and turn it quickly.”

When it comes to schools, the White House says governors should close schools “in communities that are near areas of community transmission,” according to a handout provided to media at the White House.”

Trump: Americans should home-school kids; avoid travel, gatherings of 10+ and restaurants for 15 days
